Valentine\'s Day plans/suggestions thread

Pretty gay, but whatever.

Been seeing this girl for a couple months now, we are still in that kinda awkward "dating each other exclusively but not really officially boyfriend/girlfriend" stage of the relationship. As of right now my plan for Valentine's is to just bring over some flowers and a bottle of wine and cook her dinner. I think this is a solid plan because it's obviously a nice thing to do but not like over-the-top romantic and lame. Given the situation, thoughts/suggestions?

Forgive me if this is a lame question, but in past relationships we've always been firmly "together" well before the first Valentine's we've spent together, so this situation is kind of new to me.

Also, others should post their Valentine's plans/questions/suggestions in this thread.

This is solid for your situation.

Your idea seems solid, and if I could cook, I'd think about doing something similar.

I've also been seeing a girl, but we're not in a relationship ship persay, so the whole valentine's issue is iffy. I think we're probably going to head up to a local mountain and spend the day/night there

Mia,

Your attitude sounds pretty spot on. You can be fun, romantic, and have a great night without making things uncomfortable or over-the-top. Sometimes doing less is better, and in this situation it sounds like this is one of those times.

Depending on how much you and her drink, you might want more than one bottle. Nothing sucks more than having a great night and wanting just another glass or two, and having nothing.

FYP

But for real, this is pretty standard and a good idea.

Valentine's Day 2007:
I plan on coming home from work to a pregnant wife to whom I have been married for 6 years, eating dinner, showering, losing some money online, getting in trouble for something, arguing, and then going to sleep on the couch. These plans could change...but I doubt it.

Take her out on the 13th. Proclaim that everyday is Valentine's Day to you.

Lay low together on the 14th and do it repeatedly.

Actually, our plans are for the 13th because I have class until 9 pm on the 14th.

asofel,

Neither of us are big drinkers and have to get up early the next day, so one bottle should be plenty.

I usually do the flowers + cook for the girl on V-Day, but I'm now living with my GF and cook for her all the time so it seems like that's not special enough. Any suggestions? (I kinda hate restaurants on V-day, too cheesy)

I will be doing Valentine's day thing a week early, so that it will be a surprise. I hate this artificial holiday, but love my girlfriend, so if anyone deserves something special it is her.

She has class late that day, so when she gets home I will have the place cleaned spotless, and have a little dinner ready, as well as her present...a kitten. (See previous thread). Kitten will be hidden and I will just give her a card that has a PetsMart gift card in it. She is fairly intelligent and will begin to think about getting a kitten, but probably won't know that I have it. Then the big reveal.

Also, probably the easiest thing ever, costs $5 and takes ten minutes is to make chocolate covered strawberries. Pair them up with some champagne and you're all set, she will be happy. (plus they're delicious)

I'm also going to do the cooking, wine & candles thing, and I'm looking forward to it.

I really can't cook to save my life, so it's going to be entertaining. I'll have a great dessert ready, so that should make up for any severely mistreated food.

Oh, and we're married for about a year now and it still seems like the most fun way to spend vday together. I'll make sure to post an update on that statement in 10 years' time. Watch this thread.

I'd think it was weird if somebody brought over more than 1 bottle for 2 ppl. Maybe if you were cooking with it I'd understand, but it just looks alcoholic to double-fist wine with dinner.

I'm not even saying you're wrong about wanting more; if she had another bottle around the house it'd be reasonable to open it over the course of the night. But I think one bottle is fine when you're bringing-over dinner ingredients.

Very true. If you ever really want to bring 2 and make it natural, bring a white & red and say you weren't sure what she'd prefer.

The girl says she knows a nice restraunt downtown, so i think we'll have a few glasses of wine then go there for a steak dinner then head back to her place.

She's got a hottub as well so if i get it all in the right order i'm pretty sure i can get fondling, especially if i get her just drunk enough. Then we'll probably head inside, she likes to dance, so i'll probably stick some soft rock on and see where it goes from there..

99% of the time this is a lie. It means "I've had bad valentine's days in the past so want to pretend it's no big deal but I would love it if you would do something special for me". BTW it doesn't have to be retarded or mushy.

Mia: Is this a chick you met on myspace? Pics kthx!

I've been dating a girl for about a month...we're not exclusive yet and we see each-other about once a week. Do I have to do something on the 14th w/ her or can I pretend I'm going out of town or do I have to break up with her?

Nah, met her in real life. I've only met one girl online in my life and only saw her once. See myspace thread for details.
