The Well - bobman0330

[ QUOTE ]
A stranger is being shown around a village that he has just become part of. He is shown a well and his guide says "On any day except Tuesday, you can shout any question down that well and you'll be told the answer" . The man seems pretty impressed, and so he shouts down: "Why not on Tuesday?" and the voice from in the well shouts back: "Because on Tuesday, its your day in the well."

[/ QUOTE ]

Thought it would be interesting to try around here. I'll be up for another few hours and then around all day tomorrow. Feel free to ask:
-Anything about politics
-Anything about me, within reason
-I can say something coherent about any form of poker, but I'm not an expert at anything except small stakes 5-table turbo SNGs.
-Anything about the law, with the caveat that I'm not a lawyer, so I can't give legal advice, or anything like that, and I don't have much practical experience. My knowledge is heavily biased towards corporate, tax, and securities law.
-Anything about history
-Anything about learning how to cook (not so much about being a good cook, because I'm not close to there yet...)
-Anything about anything else.

I can gyrate my body in a rhythmic fashion to pretty much any beat, but I'm not sure it really rises to the level of "getting down." If you saw it at all, I'd be most likely to produce getting down somewhere between 3 and 6 drinks.

1) Will you go see the new Transformers movie?
2) Do you think it will be good?
3) Will the Decepticons or the Autobots win in the end?

I make it about a 7-2 dog to be the case. Sure, they're similar, but unless there's something I'm unfamiliar with, it doesn't really make any sense?

1. Absolutely.
2. I'd like to think so, but if you've seen the theatrical trailer, you'll understand why I find it hard to have faith.
3. Decepticons. I really think this is our year. First the Red Sox, now it's our turn.

You actually believe Michael Bay can make a movie that doesn't suck despite the fact that he hasn't so far?

1. Yes. My formative political experience was talk radio, which my mom listened to a lot driving me and my siblings to school. My parents are both fairly moderate, and of opposite political persuasions, so I also got a lot of variety. In high school and college, most of my friends were really liberal, which perversely drove me to being more conservative than I normally am, just because it's easier to see the flaws in/be repulsed by extreme arguments than moderate ones. Since finishing undergrad and going to law school, I've gotten more moderate.

2. As a child, I remember having the toys of Soundwave and the other cassette Decepticons, so I'm going to go with them.

3. Depends how you mean. The dish I make most often and am most adept at making is probably sauteed chicken breast. The dish I make that probably tastes best is grilled brined pork chops. The dish I consider my greatest accomplishment was one I made (w/ no recipe) consisting of sauteed scallops in a cream sauce (skim milk + parmesan) with cracked peppercorns and peas over linguine. (This last dish, which I've christened Scallops à Robert, might have won more categories, but last time I made it, the sauce didn't really thicken and I ended up with noodle soup.)

I've worked a few non profits in government affairs and left my most recent job because it was far more admin then what I was looking to do.

So now I'm a 27 year old with a BA degree in Communications pretty much "starting over". I have been dabbling with the idea of doing campaign work for the 08 election but I've heard a lot of negative experiences from various people. Plus the fact that if I went that route I would just end up starting over again most likely after the elections.

To wrap it up, any political career advice for me? Where should I be looking?

The Iliad and the Odyssey. My reasoning is that it would be futile to try to get people to really understand something through two books. What you're more likely to get is a bunch of people who think they know everything, but really only understand a small corner of whatever subject the books are on. So, might as well get them started on understanding Western literature.

Last time someone asked a similar question, I suggested "think-tank" and he liked it. So I'm gonna go with think-tank.

I'd be tempted to ban an anarchist whom I dislike, but that would be petty. I think I'd probably ban someone awesome like Andyfox or DVaut1 to teach an object lesson about the folly of entrusting arbitrary power to the hands of one man.
