NCAA Bowl Thread

I figure we can discuss the bowls that won't get as much coverage as the major ones, which I'm sure will get their own threads.

Tonight has a huge favorite, TCU, playing NIU. NIU has the #1 rusher in the country with Garret Wolfe. With that said, TCU is up by 13 early in the 2nd and NIU is showing 0 signs of life. Very boring game to open up the season but all NIU needs is one big play to make this close.

Why is Ryan Leaf talking? I know Brady is the backup/starter for Oregon but shouldn't Ryan be on the sidelines if he is the "QB" coach?

Re: NCAA Bowl Thread

Why did I bet Oregon at +4? Really, what the hell? I know they weren't that great, but 17-0 to BYU? MWC is the best in bowl games?

Re: NCAA Bowl Thread

Seriously, how can there be this many drops in a game? If I were Dixon or Leaf I'd want to choke these guys. Of course, Leaf makes a terrible throw right there.

At least Notre Dames players can catch the ball when its throw to them. Oregon is just god awful. I wonder how did they beat Oklahoma...

So Troy played an awesome first half and kept Rice off balance the entire time. I thought Rice was going to come into this game and just blow Troy out...very wrong. Troy's oline is somewhat fun to watch, they are so synchronized in their blocks. It's exactly how zone blocking is supposed to work.

Needle77,
what's your opinion on letting the center control the snap count as they do at Troy?

[/ QUOTE ]

It's kinda funny you ask that because me and my dad had a discussion about this last night.

Personally I'd never allow a center to control the snap count. I don't know much about the offense, but it seemed all the audibles came from the sidelines, but what if the center has started the cadence? If he doesn't here the sidelines call an audible there can be a big problem if he snaps the ball. But, they might have some sorta fail-safe for this, I just am not aware of it and I couldn't come up with one myself.

Having the center make the line calls is standard though. I much rather have my center make those calls than the QB. It takes less pressure off of a college QB, who already has enough to handle, and allows for more adjustments if the center can make those calls. I doubt the QB sits in film sessions with the offensive line, so I don't think he knows all of the strengths and weaknesses of the linemen, the center most likely does. That way he can help each individual with certain calls.

Anyway, back to the cadence, I just feel that the QB should handle that due to he sees the whole field and can make better audible calls, ect. And, what if you are in a hostile enviroment with an extremely loud crowd? Common sense says it's easier to hear a QB calling the cadence towards you then a center calling it towards the 2 technique in front of him.

tl;dr: QB should handle cadence, center should handle line adjustments.

There are 4 and a half minutes left with ECU driving but let me just stay, wow. USF really dominated this game with Grothe in. Grothe is going to be a household name by the time he is a Junior. Brohm, Teel, White, Grothe, these are the names of the Big East QB's going into next year. They are some damn good QB's, depending if Brohm does not go pro.

Anyway, USF made a statement for the big east and beat up ECU. No not a power team but they did what they were supposed to do.

I'm really excited for this San Jose St vs New Mexico game. It's the New Mexico bowl, @ New Mexico, and I feel San Jose St. wins this game. They have had a terrific season, they are my dad's alma mater, and I love their coach. This team is on the rise and should compete with Boise St. for the WAC championship next year.

Edit: Small bitch. I hate how you can defer in high school and college football. If you win the toss you should have to recieve the ball.

If you are a returner and you run backwards you should automatically be suspended for a quarter. I just don't understand why they do it.

Wow, they missed a clear 15yard facemask there. Missing Personal fouls is just unexcusable. NCAA refs show their ugly face against.

I had a feeling that SJSU was to much for UNM. Those recievers for SJSU were quite fun to watch. And the coaches reaction at the end of the game after having the gatorade poured on him was classic, just pure hatred.

Utah vs Tulsa has been somewhat entertaining so far. Both teams have moved the ball decently but have stalled from time to time.

Bowl Records as follow(per conference):
Mountain West- 2-1(Utah playing now)
Sun Belt - 1-0
WAC - 1-0
Big East - 1-0
Mid-American - 0-1
Pac-10 - 0-1
C-USA - 0-2(Tulsa playing now)

Tomorrows game is Arizona State vs Hawaii.

Utah looks like it just locked up another bowl win. Urban Meyer really got that program to a decent standard. MWC now is 3-1 in bowl games and looks like it might win that ESPN bowl trophy for best winning %. C-USA moves to 0-3.

MT2R,

I thought you also liked the Big East? USF did win today.
And do you think tomorrow night's game is good enough to get bowl season going? or will you be waiting until the 28th?

how has noone posted about this game!

Hawaii went crazy in the second half. 559 yards 5 TDs for Colt Brennan. Holy crap does this guy have a big arm... he threw a strike in the 3rd quarter that went about 40 yards in the air, on a rope. Not sure i'd stick around for a senior season if i was him but if he does he'll go in as a Heisman frontrunner.

What, no posting for the Motor City Bowl? I expect MTSU's southern speed will be too much for the slow, dim-witted northerns from Central.
