Ask me about being Valedictorian

I am graduating today after returning to school after years of doing 'other' things. I have a GPA over 3.9, and I have been elected as the valedictorian in my course of study.

I am concluding a degree in English looking to pursue my Phd in literary studies in order to become a professor. Ask me some questions as to how I did it, or some general questions about school or how I rock.

say someone drugged you and coerced you into doing gay porn with them tomorrow. what is the max amount of money you would pay them in ransom per month to not send the video to your mom, friends and everyone at your college?

Re: Ask me about being Valedictorian

I wouldn't be worried about dissemination at school - it's too big to worry about my classmates seeing it.

Obviously I would not want my family to see it. I wouldn't be too worried about my friends seeing it; they've seen me do too many crazy things to make a gay sex tape seem provocative.

In the end, I don't think I would pay too much. If I were to have gay sex, I would make sure it was discreet anyway, and if I were to tape it, I would also insure that it would be hot enough to insure a profit.

I don't like [censored], nor would I like to have it in my mouth or stuck in my ass.

Good question though.

you are officially gayer than Sklansky naked riding a pony.

I didn't even get past the mental naked Sklansky picture.

I couldn't imagine him on a pony. Perhaps it makes the whole vision more compelling.

Re: Ask me about being Valedictorian

Since you have a good sense of humor, I will ask some real questions.

How old are you?
Why did you take a non-traditional route to college?
What other things did you do while not in school?
What changed your mind to return to school?
What school are you graduating from?
Where are you going to to grad. school?
Where and what do you want to teach after grad. school?

Also, nice job going back and doing so well. I started going to college P/T @ twenty-five and finished ten-years later. IMO, not as easy to do when you are older and have a full life outside of school.

Though I too have the strong desire to say something sarcastic, I have to admit I'm curious about a couple of things:

(1) Did you really believe that this post would encourage anything other than sarcasm and hate?
(2) Did you have any motivation to post other than to brag?
(3) Were you hoping to encourage funny, yet snide remarks?
(4) What kinds of questions did you expect?

All this hate. This guy is well grounded in the fundamentals with his English degree, and now he is ready to try and succeed where other lesser minds have failed, by trying to solve the cutthroat but practical problems of literary studies in the 21st century.

Are you proud of getting a mediocre GPA in a major that requires little intelligence and has no practical value in the real world?

I know several engineers with 3.9X GPAs. Maintaining a 3.9+ in a tough major such as engineering is quite an impressive feat. Bragging about your grades in english is analgous to boasting about winning a race in the special olympics.

you picked the wrong place to post a reprehensible brag thread.

Way too harsh. Most of these engineers would be not be near the top of their class if they had majored in English or literature of any type. And I'm assuming native speakers.

FWIW, I think it's an accomplishment you should be proud of.

Regardless of which school you go to or what your major is, being valedictorian is something to be proud of. Congrats.

I know a lot of engineers that were bored in English class. I know I slept through mine. So I have to agree with this one but not for the reasons you assume. Forcing an Engineer to major in English is like putting a former Marine that served in Iraq and is now playing college football in a balley dance class. It just doesn't work.

LOL, 'balley.' Yes, the fast-paced world of friction coefficients and material tensile strengths is just so exciting, so challenging, so what it truly is to be 'alive....' that nothing else compares.

In the interest of fairness, I was an English minor and hated most of my classes, though the ones that were more world lit, or rhetoric & composition, were often v. good.

Re: Ask me about being Valedictorian

I majored in English because I enjoyed reading and writing. I couldn't believe they'd let me actually do something I liked for a major. My communication skills are among my strongest assets in the business world, and I believe I know more about how people think and relate to one another because I'm well-read. Also, I didn't have to show up for class very often.

serious question

how many test/homework did you cheat on.

I cheated like twice a month and couldnt get past 3.7 so i assume you were pushing 5+ times a month.

theben 12-10-2006 04:29 PM

Re: Ask me about being Valedictorian

not entirely what i meant to say. doing well in engineering school takes a different skill set than what english requires. however, many who succeed in engineering could also perform stongly in english. the opposite holds true much less frequently.

for your average person, it is infinitely more difficult to do well as an engineer than as an english major. if you were to compare the mean IQ levels between the 2 fields, i am sure you would find a shocking disparity.
