More cop killing goodness....

WILMINGTON, South Carolina (AP) -- A teenager accused of robbing a student of two new Playstation 3s on the day the popular game consoles were introduced was shot to death by police sent to arrest him.

Peyton Strickland, 18, was killed Friday at a house he shared with three roommates, New Hanover County Sheriff Sid Causey said.

"If this boy would've come to the door, opened the door, we probably wouldn't be talking," the sheriff said Sunday.

Strickland's dog, a German shepherd, also was shot to death.

CNN

Sigh.....

Roommate Mike Rhoton said Strickland was unarmed, but may have been holding a video game controller when he went to the door as it was bashed in by officers.

I thought this post was going to be about this:

http://seattlepi.nwsource.com/local/...tml?source=rss

It does make an interesting counter argument. Cops being killed in these types of situations tend to be the reason why kids get shot in situations like the one in the op.

I'm not the world's biggest fan of how police tend to do their job, and obviously death's like the one in the OP are regrettable, but one of the important lessons to take from this is that when confronted with somebody who can legally make you dead, don't [censored] around.

I have less sympathy for this jerk-off than I do for some of the other recent police shooting victims that have been discussed on here. You're a student at UNC, you're walking along on campus and see one of your fellow students unloading two PS3's from the back of his car...so what do you do? You beat him down and steal them of course!

And this whole PS3 thing is out of control. I'm sure Sony is just loving all of this negative press that they're getting due to their decision to artificially create a shortage of game systems on the market.

In general, cops are pussies.

How many times on COPS do you see people slammed to the ground with a knee to the forehead for "tensing up" when someone (a cop) unexpectedly grabs from behind?

Pretty much a joke how big of wusses these guys are (in general).

Also, why does it take half the [censored] police force to deal with most of these cases that involve a single person of a couple?

I think it was Sunday I was watching when one of the Cops says "No...it's your fault there are 15 policemen here! "

ummmm, no Mr. Police Officer...It is YOUR fault that you need 15 [censored] policemen to deal with one [censored] person.

I find it interesting you calling others who put their life on the line "pussies". I'm sure your days of playing internet poker and bullshitting on OOT make you a "real man" and a "hard ass", but some people actually work and I think they don't like "fair fights" and prefer "winning all the time".

Let me make an equation that will probably appeal to your inner nerd:

You sir are a moron. Please go look at what Dids posted. Police officers put their lives at risk 24/7/365 to protect us. They can get killed doing just about anything, so when they use force it is so they don't get killed.

It is too bad this kid was killed, but police went to the apartment/house under the assumption that the guy was ARMED and dangerous. I'm sure if you busted into a house where you thought you might die, you would be wanting to protect yourself as well.

I'm confident most of these "stand off" type situations could be handled in a MUCH MUCH better way. For example, that black man getting shot 81 times in Compton about 2 years ago. The cops send in a K9, then unload...wtf sense does that make. Oh yeah, we had to shoot him 81 times too, gotta make sure he's dead.

I think Police forces really need to re-learn how to strategize and figure out more humane ways of dealing with this scum.

Obviously there are times when an officer's life is truly threatened, but I can't see how shooting this boy is justified.

I think this wrong in a way. I think we spend too much money on "training" with highly militarized tactics and using military weapons. Gotta justify that spending somehow, so that's why you get 15 SWAT guys ramming doors down over a couple ounces of weed and people get shot.

Their life is still on the line. They are human beings and would rather live then die, so when they are storming a house where a criminal is known to be armed, they are going to take the proper precautions.

I won't refute that this case was retarded, however, there are bad apples that come with anything. Not every cop in the world is an idiot like that.

I don't claim to know how much money each state spends on the police. However, most police are not idiots, but they are the only police that you will hear about.
