That guy looks 20-ish, the term "life savings" wouldn't really apply to him.

that was kinda fun; only expected to lose $7157.89

Also in the tag it says world's largest televised bet. There's gotta be a larger poker bet, no?

I highly doubt this was his life savings.

Nice publicity stunt though, for his poker website.

Whatever.

Losing would have been funny only if he kept changing his mind between red and black and the ball ended up landing on green (0 or 00).

The story is he sold just about every single thing he could except for pretty much the clothes he was wearing and put it on the line. So, it was more than life savings, it was everything he had of value.

Yeah, that's why I put story in there. That's what's been reported, but it seems sort of far fetched that someone would take a near 50-50 shot at homeless or twice as rich without some sort of out or this being some made up backstory. I'm skeptical, but whatever, it doesn't change my life if it is real or not. The story is pretty interesting either way.

Re: Bet life savings on one roulettte spin!!

This is a concept for a new game show. The contestant liquidates his collective assets, flies to vegas, and puts it all on either one hand of blackjack or one spin of roulette. My friend, who had inquired about becoming a contestant, was contacted for the show.

He was seriously considering it and I was putting the pressure on him to do it. He owns a flooring business and two houses so it would have been a considerable sum. His reasoning for doing the show: He believed that they'd never allow someone to ruin themselves finacially on television, and that he'd be reimbursed.

He bitched out in the end

edit I'll find out the name of the show from him tomorrow if anybody cares

I think this is fiction. It is a clever way to promote a new poker site. That is my suspicion. They wouldn't have gotten all those shots taping a 'real' event.

This happened like 2 years ago, even before the first season of HSP, so probably at the time, it was the largest televised.

Wouldn't that be +EV w/ a near 50% shot at quadrupling your net worth (betting 2x your net worth) vs. the downside of declaring bankruptcy? I see very little difference between bring busto and being bankrupt...compared to the difference of doubling to quadrupling your upside.

It is hard to get someone to loan you money when you don't have anything left to put up against the loan. Banks aren't stupid.
