Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

The series is basically Groundhog Day, but instead of flirting with girls, Taye Diggs goes around getting into gunfights with people. It's not perfect, but it looks like a good Lost fill-in.

Just beat me to this thread. Dunno how I feel about it yet. I agree it seems like a good timeslot filler however it was pretty confusing. Why did the bullet stay in his arm yet when he shaved it grew back? Seemed like they wanted to establish that anything that physically happens to him remains there.

i have been putting in a marathon poker session today so i didn't catch it. i will probably check it out tomorrow. did it have a LOST preview? I'm not expecting much based on the other ABC try-hards (invasion, the 9), but the premise is interesting.

This sounds promising

Yeah I liked it. Ground Hog Day as a TV show is a good concept. Incidentally, there was a TV movie that came out as the exact same time as Groundhog Day, was it on ABC or Fox?

I have no idea what's going on though. You kind of figured Assistant Director Skinner will be good and the Firefly guy will be bad.

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

There was a Lost scene, but it was one I'd seen before.

Russ,

Has the feeling of sloppiness to me. Kind of like how no one except Taye Diggs is the only one who can shoot worth a damn. The scene where the one guy with an assault rifle spent ten minutes trying to shoot the three guys 10 feet away from him without accomplishing a damn thing was pretty funny.

Yes. They said the preview is on abc.com, too, I think.

Yeah builds the suspense when he's in danger. Here's a dumb question. Do we think that the murder plot will explain why he keeps living the same day over and over, or are they unrelated?

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

OK, not even approaching great. I originally thought this was a good concept, but now I realize its not. The problem is that there is only one character that is interesting. Every other character forgets everything when the day resets, so this really kills the drama.

Also, it seems obvious that the scruffy guy in the police station is another guy that is also stuck in the same day loop as the main character.

I enjoyed it, which is not something I've been able to say about any other new show.

When he kept trying to explain to the GF what was going on, I kept thinking, just tell her its like Groundhog Day.

I actually shouted this at the television. "WEll, today is yesterday, and yesterday was today, and it's all the same. No the same things didn't happen but it's the same day blah blah blah..."

i thought this was a great idea for a tv show and i would be looking forward to watching it again if taye diggs wasn't such a terrible actor, im fairly certain that the show will get progressively worse the longer it stays on the air

Who knows, maybe some of the other characters will start remembering bits and pieces of the previous days as the show progresses.

I liked it will watch again next week.

What scruffy guy? And how did they hint that he's in the loop too? I didn't catch that. I do think that revealing that some of the characters are in on the loop is a good twist for the show sometime down the road though.

Defintely better than I expected. I caught most of it while playing online the other night. The wife is nice eye candy. I kinda like the Memento + Groundhog Day + 24 vibe to show... I'll give it another week.

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

I liked it and will keep watching. It is only a 13 episode miniseries (which honestly seems too long anyways) but I think there's a lot of cool places it can go and the "injuries remain through the days" part makes it more realistic and will lead to more drama than the whole groundhog day treatment. Unfortunately I think there will be a lot of repetition (duh) but the pilot was solid and will be a good thing to have on a dvr.

I predict it will end with it turns out the DA murder victim was dirty.

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

Tonight's episode was my favorite one so far. I wonder if they're ever going to explain why he actually goes through the same day over and over again or if they'll just avoid the question by saying that "He was being given a chance to make things right".

Vehn 12-07-2006 08:03 PM

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

I doubt they'll explain anything in the end but who knows. think the crazy dude in jail is going through it too, or is just crazy? confused about the hourglass if the guy is jail but we'll see I guess. last two episodes were really good, next week looks good too. The "its in the front seat" copout was lame but oh well. Also hopper was too obliviously dumb this episode. Also the bad guy's "I'm reminded of another detective hopper" was obviously referring to his dad. Duh.

I also really hated the "andrea magically checks her b/f into rehab in the morning" thing that kinda skews the premise IMO, I think I'd prefer a straight groundhog day ending for the finale where he does it all perfectly, but that would probably take up too much time.

Assani Fisher 12-07-2006 11:06 PM

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

I thought that the crazy white dude was going to reveal that hes going through it too, but then he bit him and I was just confused.

I don't really understand: Does he have to do everything perfect on the last "day" before he moves onto the next day? For example, does he have to go save that lady from the bus again? Because if not, she'll die right?

Explain Andrea magically checking her BF into rehab? I mean, I remember her saying that, but what was her reasoning again? She "just felt different" that morning or something like that? Yeah, I agree- thats pretty weak. The other characters shouldn't change that much each time he relives the day unless he does something different. Its a cop out ot have them change on their own, and it renders everything that happened regarding that in the previous episode meaningless.

Another very good episode last night imo. Gotta love the reactions of some of the bad guys when they're surprised at how he could possibly know so much. What was up with his sister shooting Chad though?

THIS SUCKS!

http://apnews1.iwon.com//article/200...D8M1M2R0D.html

LOS ANGELES (AP) - ABC has turned off the lights for "Day Break" and "Show Me the Money." The low-rated series airing back-to-back on Wednesday have been pulled by the network.

The failure of "Day Break," a crime thriller starring Taye Diggs, foiled ABC's plan to effectively fill the slot vacated by "Lost" when it went on hiatus after six episodes.

ABC said Friday that repeats of the comedies "George Lopez" and "According to Jim" will air in the 9 p.m. EST time slot that "Day Break" held only briefly. The show, which debuted Nov. 15, attracted fewer than 4.5 million viewers last week and ranked 99th.

On Jan. 3, the sitcoms "Knights of Prosperity" and "In Case of Emergency" will debut in the 9-10 p.m. EST Wednesday time period. When "Lost" returns Feb. 7 with 16 new episodes it will move to 10 p.m. EST Wednesday.

ABC gave "Lost" an extended break to avoid airing repeats of the densely plotted show and provoking fan irritation.

"Show Me the Money," hosted by William Shatner, will be replaced in the short term by sitcom reruns, ABC said. The network had hoped to duplicate the success of NBC's "Deal or No Deal" but the shrinking audience for Shatner's show had dropped to 7.1 million last week.

"Deal or No Deal," in comparison, attracted more than 17 million viewers the same week.

Viewers will be able to follow "Day Break" online at ABC.com, at least for now. Thirteen episodes of the show were produced but an ABC spokeswoman wasn't sure if all remaining episodes would be available at the web site.

ABC is owned by The Walt Disney Co. NBC is owned by General Electric Co. (GE)

I agree ... this sucks.

I just sat down to watch tonights episode on my DVR and realized there was no show because ABC had cancelled it. I know I'm really looking foward to "According to Jim" reruns instead of "Day Break"

I checked ABC.com and no new episode was up yet ... hopefully they will put up the rest of the season.

Re: Daybreak - Anyone else watching?

I'm never watching a new show again till its been on for at least 3 months and has gotten awesome ratings.

How do they expect to build audiences if they cancel everthing after 6-10 weeks?

Six Degrees, The Nine, and now Daybreak.

[censored] You ABC.

Episode 11 came out on Monday. Only two more left and they're releasing them on each of the following Mondays.

Very very interesting twists and turns. If anyone has been watching, I'd love to get some other opinions

SPOILERS THROUGH EPISODE 11 BELOW! SPOILERS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

The 2nd to last episode available really cleared everything up it seemed. Then the last one totally messed things up again. When he kept going on vacation with his girl and she got upset and said "you'll see, I'll remember tomorrow" and then the next day is different- how the hell did she remember or what changed? I know at the end she said "something was different with YOU" but that doesn't really explain it.

Also, shes clearly up to something behind his back. And at the end, Uncle Nick said that they had to go to somone even higher than the politician guy....who the hell could that be? Could it be her? That would provide the shocking climax that I'm sure they're looking for.
