Don't know much about southern Ms., but in Tunica there are daily tourneys at several casinos. If you can hold out until January, there is a WSOP circuit event at the Grand.

I am in Houma. I know that Cypress Bayou doesn't have any tourneys. They got a nice jackpot going right now. It's at about 150k.

I don't know about any regular tourneys like in Tunica. Tunica is probally to far for me to drive regularly, however, I could make the trip to Lake Charles or Baton Rouge if they got some nice tourneys. Thanks for any help.

Kenny,

Harrah's New Orleans has a Sunday early bird tournament. The buys in alternatte between $120 and $340 You get some play in the 340. The 120 isn't worth it, IMHO.

Everybody and their brother will be in Tunica in January for the two sets of tourneys going on at the Grand and Gold Strike.

If you're interested in live tourneys and are anywhere close it's worth the trip. but book your room ahead of time as the hotels will almost certainly be sold-out.

Lots of the 'famous' players such as Negreneau and Greenstein, etc are around for the $10k events for those who are interested in that kind of stuff too.

But there are many tourneys smaller than that going all the way down to the $175+$25 that is usually held at 5pm daily at the Grand during that stretch as well as 2nd chance tourneys at Gold Strike and all the SNG's and satellites.

It's 3 weeks of poker crazyness in Tunica and it really is a pretty fun time. Jan 4-25 I believe.

As for Tunica tourneys not in January....lots and lots of them. Horseshoe does a good job running their tourneys imo.
Gold Strike isn't bad either although sometimes their structure is faster.

msgaming.net looks like they keep their Tunica poker tourney schedule updated pretty well.

Im thinking of heading to Tunica in January and trying to decide between staying at the Horshoe or Gold Strike. Which place has more mid/high side action (ie $5/$10 - $25/$50 NLHE or PLO) Gold Strike or Horshoe? And if Im there without a car, how hard is it to get from one to the other?

It's about a 25 second walk form the GoldStrike to the Horseshoe maybe 5 mins from poker room to poker room.

I can't speak for January but when I there for the WSOP circut event a couple of weeks ago the grand had 2-5-10 on the button PLO that went off an on and all the bigger games were at the Horseshoe.

I'm there every January......Best games on the planet IMO ! Mid-Hi Games....Gold Strike. Although the Shoe may get some going too.

Re: Louisiana/Mississippi -anyone?

This all sounds great. Are all the PLO games 3 blinds? What about the NLHE games?

The January action will be MUCH bigger than the Sept WSOP-circuit activity. Not even close.

You'll have some pretty decent size games going at Gold Strike (and Horseshoe too of course).
10/25 PLO I believe...as well as 25/50 PLO perhaps??

Upstairs at the Gold Strike they take the convention room and have 80 poker-tables set up in there.
They still have their tables in their regular poker-room (12 or so I think) and also set them up in the hall-way outside the room.

Lots of tournament and cash-game action.

And, of course, a lot of big-action at the Horseshoe as well.

Gold Strike and Horseshoe are next-door to each other. They couldn't be any closer without being attached (they practically are).

The Grand is about a 5-minute drive up the road and it is not a reasonable walk. They have shuttles that run people around though.

Strongly consider staying at the Sheraton which is right next door to the Horseshoe also.
The rooms are really pretty nice there (definitely nicer than Gold Strike...I've never stayed at Horseshoe).
Every Sheraton room is a jacuzzi-suite and it's kind of nice if you have a GF or wife tagging along.

I do very much recommend making your reservations NOW though because the rooms WILL sell-out for January.

I made reservations at the Gold Strike. The rooms arent horrible are they? As a comparison ive stayed at the Gold Coast in Vegas and thats about the lowest quality Id want. Something like the Plaza in Vegas would be unacceptable.

I much prefer staying inside the actual casino instead of having to walk outside.

Re: Louisiana/Mississippi -anyone?

gold strike rooms are decent and are definitely better than gold coast in LV.

Gold Strike is where we stay when we can't get a jacuzzi-suite at Sheraton.

Re: Louisiana/Mississippi -anyone?

Ok then Gold Strike it is then.

Jacuzzis dont do anything for me at all.

That's impressive, the Gold Strike had the second nicest casino hotel rooms I've ever stayed in.

I don't know what goes on in January but at other times the Horseshoe is the only place to go for mid/high stakes games.

The GoldStrike rooms are decent. I would rate them third or forth best in Tunica.
