BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
The following is based on numerous categories, including ownership, talent, production, stadium, affordability, coaching, and hotness of the cheerleaders.
1. Portland Trail Blazers- Nicknamed the Jailblazers for a reason, you'll be hard pressed to find many worse franchises in this. Although the Blazers had some success, John Nash decided to revamp the roster in 03 with players that are less talented, but also with less of a rap sheet. It's a shame Blazer fans have to deal with this, as they are as loyal as they come. 2. Arizona Cardinals- Have had only one winning season and NFL playoff appearance since 1984. Terrible terrible attendance at Sun Devil Stadium, and although since they've moved its gotten better, its still not nearly where they want it. 3. Kansas City Royals- Davis Glass is an owner who gives the sport a bad rap. He never attempts to go after any big free agents, and rarley re-signs the decent ones he has. As a result Kansas City will not have a competitive team for years to come. 4. Oakland Raiders- Don't need to explain this one. The Raiders are clueless right now, with the exception of the win over the Steelers. They have no trust in their coaches, and play without a passion on the field. Ever since the SB appearance a few years back they have been on a freefall. 5. New York Knicks- The Knicks are redefining what a bad franchise is. To spend so much money on players and a Hall of Fame coach, then to become the worst team in the league for possibly the next 10 years completely redefines futility and terrible management. 6. Tampa Bay Devil Rays 7. Toronto Raptors 8. Minnesota Vikings 9. San Fran 49ers 10. Atlanta Hawks 11. Philadelphia Phillies 12. L.A Dodgers 13. Baltimore Orioles 14. L.A Clippers 15. Detroit Lions Honorable Mention: Cleveland Browns Discuss. Edit: I did not include NHL. |
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
I would agree with the Raptors before they hired Colangalo (sp?)
|
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Vikings have no business being on this list.
|
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Chicago Blackhawks deserve to be on that list.
|
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
St. Louis/Phoenix/Arizona Cardinals is #1
at least Portland competed for awhile |

Chicago Blackhawks deserve to be on that list. [/ QUOTE ] I did not include NHL because I dont follow it enough. But they would be top 3. |

This list is horrible.

Chicago Blackhawks deserve to be on that list. [/ QUOTE ] definitely...I cannot believe how much they've alienated their fan base |
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Detroit Lions should be top 5. Not sure what argument there is for them being below the Vikings, who clearly don't even belong on the list. Pittsburgh Pirates clearly belong on the list. I guess NHL teams were not included.

1. Portland Trail Blazers [/ QUOTE ] Portland's site is surprisingly upbeat so far. Many of the fans are expecting a rise to mediocrity this year. Lori |

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Just to expand a little more on how stupid this list is,
Is this list the worst franchise presently or ever? If it's ever how the hell are the 49ers, Raiders up? If it's presently how the hell are the Vikings and Dodgers up? |
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
It makes a difference if this is an "all time worst" or just a Last "3 to 5 years worst". Based on your picks, I will take it's the latter.

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
if you read the original post and can not tell, then your retarded.

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
The Florida Marlins are one of the worst run organizations ever, but no one has noticed because they got lucky, twice.
In 1997 the won the WS and immeidtaly disbanded basically the entire franchice. In 1998 traded for/re-traded Mike Piazza as part of a complicated salary dump... In 2003 they did the exact same thing with Mike Hampton to dump Preston Wilsons salary, didn't make any serious attempts to improve the team but randomly had some good pitchers come up and made a token signign of Pudge as another WS fell into their larp. They of course let everyone go withing 2 years, creating an eventual team of 12 year olds to play in 2006 which again somehow went over .500. However despite this they fire their manager. The current owner is Jeff Loria who basically bankrupted the Expos. This entire organization is an absolute joke. |

12. L.A Dodgers [/ QUOTE ] 2nd in attendance in 2006. in the playoffs 2 of the last 3 years. 6 world championships. highest all-time cumulative attendance of any team in american sports. thanks for playing. |

BobOjeda,
I guess your ignoring the fact that they have one of if not the best run farm system in the majors. |

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
the florida marlins have won 2 ws in the last decade. that's more than some franchises have ever won. and they did it in a terrible baseball market without losing millions.
jeffrey loria is a terrible owner and i'm sure he'll ruin the team, but they've been one of the best franchises of the last decade. the chicago blackhawks are far and away the worst franchise ever. the boston bruins are probably #2. |
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
49ers? Oh man, what a silly list.
|
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
OP,
Eff the haters. The list is somewhat flawed but a decent effort. Anyway, I think the Cardinals should hold #1-5 on your list, then you can move on to another team. As long as they are owned by the Bidwills they will bask in revenue sharing and spend the least amount of money possible. The Blazers are just in a funk but were very good throughout the 90s and into this decade. |
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
WTF? Portland #1? Dude, this list does blow, because your explanation for this being #1 is asinine. Most people would immediately say Arizona Cards, KC, and sans last year, the [censored] Clippers.

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Bullet Dodger, I guess I am retarded too because I could not tell if you meant all time or recent years. This needs to be clearly stated for you to have a conistent list. But if you meant historically or in recent years you cannot include the Dodgers. They have been successful recently, historically and because of their great farm system there is reason to belief they will continue to be successful.
I think that the Marlins are increadibly well run. They understand very well that because of their payroll they cannot compete every year and cannot afford all of their stars players once they reach free agency. Thus they get good value for players about to become free agents, and 'sell off' the team in order to put them selves in a position to be very competative with cheap young talent every couple of years. This Marlins team is going to be very good in a couple of years because of their large amount of very good cheap young pitching. Other teams try to keep some of their star players, over pay for them and do not put themselves in a position to ever be competative. Here is a very good article about it. http://www.hardballtimes.com/main/ar...he-marlin-way/ |

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
Man, those 9ers and their 5 titles while some teams in the league haven't won a playoff game or gotten to the Super Bowl. Man they are the worst Franchise. I'll give it that I don't like York, nor do I think the team has been run well over the last 10 years or so but I don't think it's one of the worst run franchises over the length of the league.
|
Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
No love for the Golden State Warriors? They last made the playoffs in 1993-94. Add them and bump the Browns up. Definitely drop the Dodgers, Vikings, and 49ers. Lions are easily a top 5.

Re: BD\'s 15 Worst Franchises in Sports
I'm assuming this list is "worst right now" based on your Raiders pick, if thats the case the Clippers should not be on that list, I think they're just below the Spurs, Suns and Mavs this year in the West.

"I'm assuming this list is "worst right now" based on your Raiders pick, if thats the case the Clippers should not be on that list, I think they're just below the Spurs, Suns and Mavs this year in the West."
K-Slay- This list confused me. At first I figured it was the worst franchises right now but then I saw the Clippers and the Dodgers on there. Then I assumed it had to be of all-time but then there were teams like the Niners on there, hell the Dodgers and the Orioles or Phillies wouldn't be deserving in that regard. Then I thought maybe it had to do with bringing in money and fans but once again, the Dodgers are on their and they are second to only the Yankees--the Phillies I believe are right at top 10. I dunno what the thought process was here but hey good effort. |

There's a huge difference between the WSOP and the professional playoffs. You can't bring that up.
