Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
Another hand from a session review.
MP2 villain is a near-maniac, with something like 64/30 preflop and an amazingly low folding percentage postflop. He's folding out a lot of opponents post-flop with his aggression. We've seen howdown of several total junk hands already, but still he doesn't seem a total idiot, just likes the gamble and the fight for who has the biggest balls. An autonatic c-bet for me, even if I know the dude won't fold, or maybe especially so. Assume villain is a LAG, but not a totally random one. If that's too vague, just tell me what you do here. |

Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
By the description of villan it sounds like a bluff at the third club is very likely.
So I raise here, for value. The A[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] makes for a very useful backup in case he does have a real hand. I think I'm just calling a 3-bet and c/c river on non club. But then, what does he check/call the flop with however? This seems a little strange for someone as aggressive as you describe. Is it possible he had a genuine draw here? (either clubs or 9T) If so I'm probably taking the same line I said before, but I'm not as sure why. |
Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
*grunch*
Raise, if he 3-bets I call and play the river accordingly. |

Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
My favorite opponent... make like Hans and Frans and pump, it up.
|
Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
LOL, my name is Frans. (Honest)
FWIW, I called here, fearing a flush or slowplayed set. River was a brick, checked to me and I bet now, villain called, showing down Q7o. |
Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
I would raise against a LAG. Lot's of equity

raise against a lag. Lots of nice equity

Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
Honestly, I just don't think I can pull the trigger and raise the turn. I would probably call down. I guess I'm a bit skitish, because 1 pair kills me more often then not. If the maniac 3-bets you...then what?

Re: Hitting TP on the turn vs a maniac
If he's a real maniac (like reraising with just a J, 8 or fd) I like to raise the turn since he won't slowdown anyway.
If he slows down, I call the turn and raise the river. You only really fear the king hitting everything should be fine (except maybe some straight-cards). |

[/ QUOTE ] You can't be certain he'll bet again for you on the river, and he's pretty likely to call you down (in my experience, maniacs tend to be showdown-monkeys). I don't see any reason to give him a chance to get a cheap look at the river. Go ahead and pop him on the turn. |
