I  the FTP Cap NL games

For several reasons, not the least of which is that it becomes more comfortable to take shots at higher limits.

I'm a $50 NL player, so I take a shot at $100 NL -- the game has a $30 cap, which means I can buy in for around my regular amount & attack. This is the FIRST HAND at my shot-taking table.

Full Tilt Poker
No Limit Holdem Ring game
Blinds: $0.50/$1

Stack sizes:
UTG: $65.45
UTG+1: $46.50
MP1: $106.65
Turd: $44
Button: $135.35
SB: $73.05
BB: $31.45

Pre-flop: (7 players) Turd is CO with 4[img]/images/graemlins/spade.gif[/img] 4[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]
3 folds, Turd raises to $3, Button calls, 2 folds.

Turd checks, Button bets $7.5, Turd raises to $27 (e.g. the cap), Button calls.

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

ok, dumb question time. does a cap NL game basically have everyone's effective stack at $30? In theory I am playing $30NL with $1 blinds? i know strat doesnt belong here, but i never heard of this.

no, that would only be semi-retarded.
if it were 30NL you could still double up and make >$60 pots. here the max any one person can put in the pot is $30.

tubasteve 09-19-2006 04:03 AM

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

its $1-30 spread limit to be exact

edit: well i guess not really, either way its retarded but apparently really profitable...go figure

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

they donk off 30bb with ANYTHING, 66 into an AK2 board, middle pair, top pair bad kicker, its beautiful. you can push preflop and get called by A9 or worse sometimes.

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

cap no limit is the most retarded form of poker ive ever heard of. the pros probly play it because they dont know how to play no limit cash games. high stakes poker on gsn anyone?

You know you're not really "taking a shot at a higher limit" right?

if anything i think you moved down. congrats!

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

I'm super confused. The cap cost you $14 in added value and you're happy why?

I'm missing the point of this post.

Re: I  the FTP Cap NL games

30bb cap?

let's just make it a 5 bb cap

[censored] it, just make it limit

So this format is basically a sanctioned version of the old disconnect trick? Or am I missing something?

Yeah, you don't have to disconnect.

It's retarded.

Thankfully they don't seem that popular.

Howard Lederer writes a bit about the capped games.

[/ QUOTE ]

i love his advice:

"Say that you hit a set of 5s when the flop comes 5d-7d-9c. You could be up against some sort of draw here and, in a standard No-Limit game, you'd probably want to bet so that you didn't risk letting a flush get there for free. But in a Cap Game, you might give the free card."
