introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
live at the rhythm hive - the make-up (the singer's page has a lot more details)
please follow along: youtube link, wikipedia link. i don't know what percentage of oot is in the same boat, but i haven't really heard belle & sebastian, neutral milk hotel, sufjan stevens, etc. i lumped it all into the "music for bloggers" category. so as far as i'm concerned, just about any indie/hipster stuff is fair game. let's just not do metallica, billy joel, kelly clarkson, or anything else almost everyone has heard. edit 1: rap is allowed, just don't start big fights about it. edit 2: try to make it something we can easily buy (itunes, amazon, best buy) if we like it. |

Is rap allowed? [/ QUOTE ] sure, i just ask that any big arguments/discussions about it are taken outside. to me, the rap threads tend to have frequent, protracted, and uninteresting fights. |

Re: introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
Love the concept, astro. And lol at "music for bloggers."
These guys have been talked about quite a bit by the resident hipsters. I think there have even been a few threads about them. Anyway, they are probably in the top 3 live bands I've ever seen, but a lot of that could have had to do with setting and/or my condition. Baby, We'll Be Fine - The National |

Re: introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
One last one, probably most will hate it but is an interesting former black metal band that have really matured their sound, suspect the vocalist might be too much for some but the music I think is pretty interesting.
Rotting Christ Wiki Paradise Lost Anathema Epica Wiki's for the other bands added cos I suck totally. |
Re: introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
my favorite band of all time, Big Star:
wiki live performance of "September Gurls" (their best work is almost 35 years old, so the live performance isn't as crisp, and Alex Chilton's voice has aged noticably. but damn, the music is amazing.) |

Darkthrone is my favourite black metal band.
This song is from their latest album Cult Is Alive, that's heavily influenced by punk rock. Darkthrone - Too Old, Too Cold NP: Obituary - Cause Of Death (live) |

Did you see this hilarious Alex Chilton video? with the boxtops The interviewer sucks incredibly and he looks wicked annoyed. The songs pretty cool too. |
Re: introduce a band to oot via youtube and wikipedia
i hadn't seen that. nice!
Soul Deep is a great song. So is The Letter. it's so weird how Alex had this awesome soul voice at like 16, then at 21 he'd gotten this like insecure-teenager voice. now he sounds... well, he sounds like someone who's been trying to rock for almost 40 years. |
