Big Fish was probably the most recent one. I think this is the 19th time I've commented in a thread like this, so a search may yield more.

Re: Movies That Made You Cry Like a Girl
What part of Good Will Hunting do people cry at?
For me, I remember Forest Gump (both "Is he smart" and when he is talking to his wife at her grave) I also remember What Dreams May Come, when Robin Williams character says something like "I gave up eternity just to spend 5 minutes with you." Oh yeah, and Crash, where it appears the locksmith guy's daughter is shot by the looted shop owner. |

[/ QUOTE ] I don't know what blanks look like, and obviously missed any dramatic foreshadowing, which made it all the more emotional for me. (I'm also one of the few people on the internet who admits that he didn't see the twist at the end of the Sixth Sense coming). |

[/ QUOTE ] OMG You're so smart and clever. We dull-witted plebeians would never be able to foresee such an ingenius plot device. |

[/ QUOTE ] I never figured out The Sixth Sense either, but the whole buying bullets randomly didn't make sense to me at all. So I was just like, "There's got to be a reason for this stuff," and the only reasonable thing I could think of was that she had bought blanks. |

[/ QUOTE ] Okay, now I vaguely remember the scene where she bought them. Was it shot as though she was just randomly picking out some ammo? I do remember wondering why they were showing her buy bullets. Funny enough, I had forgotten about the scene until your post. Either way, as you can imagine, it made the scene much more dramatic for me. |
Re: Movies That Made You Cry Like a Girl
I'm pretty young so sensitive movies haven't really had an effect on me because I've never really understood them, but most recently I came really close to crying while watching Million Dollar Baby. Its kinda hard not to when around 20% of the theater is balling their eyes out.

[/ QUOTE ] I find the ending, where he's not at the house when Affleck goes to pick him up, and Williams reads the letter, and the Elliott Smith song is playing, to be very well done. I might cry at that. Also maybe during one of his therapy sessions. |

Alice in the Cities My Life as a Dog Nights of Cabiria maybe Jacob's Ladder, can't remember maybe Lost in Translation, can't remember -- but I probably wanted to and at more than one point Taxi Driver and Heat both do a big number on my emotions, but don't make me cry COol Hand Luke puts me pretty close to it L'Atalante hits a few primal things in me and gets me pretty emotional, don't think to the crying stage though The Enigma of Kaspar Hauser got me close, if I recall correctly Paris Texas The Black Marble |

[ QUOTE ]
Blarg- I've heard good things about the movie Paris Texas. Would you consider reviewing it? [/ QUOTE ] I'd have to watch it again first and I halted my Netflix for a while, so not for a bit. It's worth doing justice to. It's got Harry Dean Stanton in it, and he's really good. And some astonishing photography. It's a little artsy, and has lots of honest emotion, but also starts to veer toward some strange emotional territory in a way that can be a little befuddlng or seem a bit arch. It mixes love and good intentions with a sort of irreconcilable despair in a very unusual way. You have to have space in your head for flawed people, and a less than angry or crushing need for quick and tidy plots and solutions, if you want to enjoy this film or not miss some of what it's getting at. If you do, it's perhaps a little deeper than it looks, and has some very satisfying parts to it. Long, though, and not fast-paced -- a warning. |
