It will have no effect on poker other than that the Indians' 24-hour poker rooms will become 12-hour poker rooms.

Here's the text of the story:

Governor to announce Seminole gaming deal
By Linda Kleindienst and John Holland
Sun-Sentinel.com

Gov. Charlie Crist today will unveil a gambling compact agreement with the Seminoles that lets the tribe dramatically expand its casino operations in exchange for giving the state a share of the proceeds, said a source close to the negotiations.

Crist's office announced a 2:15 p.m. news conference in Tallahassee, promising a "major" announcement. His staff on Tuesday was mum about what the topic would be, but Communications Director Erin Isaac said "stay tuned" when asked if it might be the compact.

This morning, the governor's office began notifying those close to the months-long negotiations that a compact would be signed.

The sealing of the long-sought deal on Seminole gambling comes one day before the deadline set by the U.S. government for the state and tribe to reach accord and the same day state economists are likely to reveal that tax revenues may fall up to $2 billion short of what's needed to fund the current state budget.

While final details of what the Seminoles and state have agreed to have not yet been revealed, earlier drafts released by both sides provided that Florida could be paid up to $100 million a year from the tribe. In return, the Seminoles would be allowed to operate table games like blackjack and baccarat, as well as Las Vegas-style slot machines, at their casinos in South Florida and across the state.

Last week the U.S. Department of Interior gave the state until this Thursday to complete the deal with the tribe or the federal government would impose "procedures", a process where the Indian casinos would get expanded gambling without a guarantee of any financial benefit for the state.

Federal officials have cautioned the state that the Tribe was left an "unfair playing field" after voters approved Class III, or Las Vegas-style, slots in Broward County. The Indian casinos now are allowed to offer only Class II slot machines that offer bingo odds and are not as lucrative for the player or the casino.

Both sides have said for months that they were close to agreement, but Crist has been on a trade mission to Brazil for the past week, only returning on Monday and apparently signing off on the deal Tuesday.

I'm going to FL to play poker in a week. If they take away 24-hours rooms before I get there I'll be so pissed.

so correct me if im wrong but the final word is that we get a few table games but the same [censored] limits?

Re: announcement about florida poker tomorrow?

yep - along with the gaming age going from 18 to 21 at the Seminole casinos and a possible reduction in card room hours.

There is a provision for 6 high stakes no limit tournaments each year if 70% of the revenue goes to charity.

I doubt anything will happen until after the lawyers get this teat sucked dry in four or five years.

Michael Mayo of the Ft Lauderdale Sun Sentinel has a Q&A about the compact and its possible hurdles.

Mayo Column

Pull Quote-
The main hurdle will be legal fights that could take months, if not years. Dan Adkins, the executive in charge of Mardi Gras Casino in Hallandale Beach, vowed “to run to the courthouse to file suit” as soon as a compact that allowed table games was announced. And then there’s the matter of the Legislature, whose leaders argue that they must ratify any compact before it takes effect.

Wow at age limit DECREASE. JESUS! I'm like one of the only <21 year old regulars at Hollywood. They've been discussing changes for 3 months and the best they could come up with is to get rid of the minority of players that are 18-21. SIGH. Expert plan.

It doesn't look to me like they're shrinking the poker hours. The Mayo column says, in part:

"According to the October compact draft, the Seminoles said their poker rooms would adhere to state rules when it came to 'hours of operation, wagers and pot sizes.' If this provision stayed in, it would tick off plenty of insomniac poker players."

Mayo was discussing the draft compact, not the final version. Indeed, it looks like the provision about hours was struck in the negotiations; the final compact instead states, in Part V, Subpart L:

"The Tribe presently conducts and shall continue to conduct poker in each of its Facilities in compliance with provisions of Florida law, including provisions that limit wagers and pot sizes."

Note it says they will comply with "provisions" of the law, not the law in whole; and it only cites provisions relating to wagers and pot sizes. They're not agreeing to comply with limits on hours and, importantly, it's not clear to me they're agreeing to limits on buy-in either (just wagers and pot sizes).

Is my read right that they are freed from the buy-in limit, or are the limits on buy-in covered by (1) the statement that the tribe is and will continue to comply with some provisions of the law, as that is one they currently comply with, or (2) the notion that a limit on buy-in is an implicit limit on bet or pot size?

I think this looks good regarding 24 hour poker. They took out the language regarding hours from a previous draft. My guess is that the $100 buy in will stay because the provision to limit pot sizes implies they will limit the buy in. Either way, the Indians don't care because they will make much more money off the blackjack than they will on high stakes poker.
