$2k push-up Prop bet

I bet TheUsher and Durrrr $1000 each that I could do 1k push-ups over a 24 hour period. My max push up rep is probably about 35 and Im pretty out of shape, does BBV think I can do this?

The time started at 1pm vegas time today (when I woke up) So far I have done 225 Push ups. Im doing sets of 15 now and then taking long breaks, My arms hurt a lot already.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

I'd say you better push for at least 700 before you go to sleep, if not all, because you are going to be feeling that [censored] tomorrow.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

Judging by what u've said you're pretty screwed. Id say if your max rep is 35 something like 525 (35*15) might have been realistic. 1k seems kind of insane and id imagine most people would struggle with it unless in extremely good shape.

GL nonetheless, hope im wrong.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

like someone else said, do as many in as short amount of time as you can because if you take a long break and take a nap, your arm's are going to feel like jello and you're not going to be able to do any after that

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

This should be doable. Do as many as you can at once, then rest for a couple hours (assuming you can do 100+ at once). If this isn't doable, just do five at a time.

EDIT: Anyone making these prop bets in Indiana? I'll do 1100 in a day for the same amount. [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

I will buy out for no money (as if the bet was cancelled). You have 10 mins to accept this in person.

Im at 240 now.

So is it BBVs opinion that I should go crazy tryng to push out as many as possible now?

I was thinking taking it easier all day would be more succesful?

Since you've done 240 after 5 hours, I think you could get by with a smallball approach. However, if you could do 150 right now and then rest for 3 hours, that's probably easier.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

I've done a bet like this before. I don't want to say you can't do it, but by now you're pretty screwed. If your max is 35, I would have structured it like this.
Do 25, take a 3 minute break. Repeat 4 times. Take a 10 minute break. Do this entire set 5 times so you're at 500. After that you're halfway there and have plenty of time to do it. Just knock out 10 or 15 when you feel like it and you're there in no time.
The reason I say you approached it wrong is because you say your muscles are already starting to feel sore. You shouldn't have let it get to that point. Above all else you have to keep in some kind of motion. Don't let yourself go to sleep or completely rest for more than an hour or so, otherwise stiffness sets in and then pain.

At this point, I would say that you're a definite underdog here. To give yourself the best chance, I'd try to have at least 900 done before you have 1 hour left. At that point, the goal will be so close that the pain won't matter. I recommend loosening up your muscles by doing flys with very very light weights. Like if you have adjustable dumbbells, do the motion with just the bar to keep flexibility and blood flow. Failing that, those little pink 1 lb. dumbbells women joggers use.
Above all else, I recommend not sleeping. If you sleep, game over.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

you ahve to do as many as possible pretty quick. that doesn't necessarily mean that your sets have to be long (15-25 seems fine) but if you do them and let your arms rest and the lactic acid build uip, your chest and tris are going to flip out nad hurt like hell. granted, lactic acid usually takes 24 to 48 hours, but if oyu sleep it might expedite the process, and allowing that [censored] to ache is going to make you want to kill yourself.

basically, try to eat decently well and keep energy level up.. you should be able to do it, in my opinion. i think i could come close to doing it and i'[m in terrible shape too.

def take the advice of having a bunch done before you sleeep... i'm not even sure, waking up periodically to do some might be a really good idea...

apathy,
I made basically the same bet with durrr...first was 1000 pushups in 28 hrs after he had about 4 drinks for $500. Needless to say i won that bet. He also claims that he will get in amazing shape sometime soon so we bet $1000 that he can do 2000 pushups in 24 hrs by the end of this year. Im a huge nit and i jumped on this bet. I am counting my $$$ now.

Seriously, unless this is somehow against the terms of the bet, go to a health store and take creatine. Maybe some caffeine stuff too.

AEJones knows what he is talking about.

This is why I recommend the stretching. Plus, eat some meat or some bananas. They're high in potassium which helps prevent the lactic acidosis.

Plus, i'm so dead serious about the aspirin and weed. You won't feel a thing.

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

Aspirin has to be cheating in a bet like this. My bet was for 1500 in 18 hours and we banned aspirin, creatine and caffeine. If aspirin and creatine are allowed, he can still win this bet without trying.

the lactic acid is going to build up, but it is just a push up. you should be able to do this pretty easily in a 24 hour period. going to sleep would be the worst thing for you to do.

drink a ton of water, stretch a little bit, and knock out a lot early so that you dont have to kill yourself at the end.

I think a more interesting bet would be to see how many pushups you could do with raw eggs in your hand before breaking them. world record is apparently 124. you could get some crazy lopsided bets if you do this against someone who's never even considered the idea before.

'Without trying' might be bit of an exaggeration but point made. Still, there's are ways around it. Acetominophen can be substituted, and i'm sure they wouldn't even consider weed. Not too many people are even aware of how much of a workout enhancer(for high rep stuff) it is.

[censored], doing 15 at a time is stupid bro.

24 hours, 60 minutes in an hour = 1440 minutes in a day.

effort required to do two pushups = almost none

effort required to do fifteen = considerably more

do 500 sets of 2 each, making sure to do 30 sets in an hour. the key to this bet is patience, and the willingness to miss some sleep in order to win $2000.

i'd have done the bet, but i'd want $5000 to [censored] up my day completely doing it. although, i could probably do 1000 pushups in half that time.

ROFL. I'm training for Navy and can do 90 pushups in 2 minutes. I still wouldn't take this bet. But if you have to, make sure you stretch and drink water. ALso, increase protein and pasta intake in small portions.

ncpokeresq 07-20-2007 10:03 PM

Re: $2k push-up Prop bet

This oversimplifies it a bit, but you do not want to do pushups to the point of exhaustion in any one set as that will require a longer recovery period and you do not want to tear down muscles as you would for strength training.
10 every 5 minutes would allow you to get there without too much problem, but do the idea of finishing before sleep is key.
