another girlfriend problem: i got her a bobblehead for her birthday.

ok, here we go.

around the middle of november i was doing some brainstorming trying to think up a good gift to get my girlfriend. i was back at my parents' house visiting for thanksgiving and noticed a bobblehead of some baseball player on his desk. i immediately thought "AWESOME IDEA!"

if you recall, in one episode of The Office, Dwight gets a bobblehead of himself for valentines day and is extremely happy with it. i would imagine myself being happy with it too. just to make sure I IMed 3 girls i am friends with and ran it by them. all of them said that it was very sweet and cute and one of them even said that she was jealous and wished she had a boyfriend as cute as me to do stuff like that for her.

so anyway i ordered one online and it took like a month to get it. they make the bobblehead based upon pictures you send in. i told her i needed a front view and side view and that i didn't want her asking questions or trying to figure it out. she took the pictures but then spent the next month trying to guess what it was going to be. she guessed "a bust" at one point which was probably the closest guess she made, but she was kind of joking, since, y'know, who the hell gets a bust made in 2007.

anyway i mailed it to her when i got it and her reaction was kind of weird. she didn't exactly act happy about it, she said that she laughed very hard when she got it, but she didn't act to me like she enjoyed it or thought it was nice at all. she kinda laughed about it and i don't even recall her saying thanks or anything. now keep in mind, a bunch of other girls ( including her room mate, who i ran it by also ) said it was a good gift, so if she hated it, in my mind that's her fault and not mine.

anyway it's been like 3 weeks or so since she got it and i mentioned a bunch of times that i wanted to see a picture of her with it. she has one of those fancy ibooks, so it's not like it would be hard for her to take 5 seconds to take a picture with it. she hasn't done it and also has said that she was dissapointed because it doesn't look like her ( which is dumb, it does look like her. it's a bobblehead not a portrait ).

anyway, what do you make of this? was that a good present or not? is she a total bitch for not liking it?

its not the gift that counts its how much you spend

it cost approximately 113 dollars. she has also claimed that she feels bad because it was a stupid thing to spend that much money on. she knew it cost between 100-150 dollars when making that statement.

It's hard to assess in a vacuum whether it was a good idea or not. That said, it sounds like a pretty dumb idea to me, inasmuch as I can't imagine most girls going for it. And probably a bigger problem still is that you don't have a good enough read on the situation to figure out whether it was a bad idea or not.

Also, it's hard to call somebody a total bitch for not liking just about anything.

uh, this was her only present?

Great gift. I may steal your idea. If/when it happens, I'll report how it goes.

If it isn't I feel much pity for his GF. She can do better than this guy, because anyone with 4 limbs and no harelip can do better than this guy.

Between this and the birthday/NYE post, I've come to the conclusion that these posts should be accompanied by MS Paint synopses...preferably in panel comic form.

It's a cute thoughtful present if she's in to things like that, which she obviously isn't, which makes you an ass.

dude, you have to get the photos of her in some other way. she knew you were up to something and she thought about it for a long time and built it up to be something great, so obviously she was disappointed when she just got a stupid bobblehead.

had she gotten it out of nowhere, she probably would have liked it.

1. Cute, maybe. Thoughtful, no. Thoughtful means "I thought about something that you might really like based on your hobbies/needs/wants and got that".

2. A good cute gift should cost about $5.

3. A cute gift needs to be accompanied by a serious, meaningful gift.

Sorry about the harshness, I was just being facetious because I think that you're gift was a horrible, horrible gift. I think that the girls who said that it would be a good gift meant that it would be a nice goofy gift to go along with something actually, you know, good.

Expectation vs Reality. You asked for pictures from her and told her it was related to her present but not to ask you questions about it. Did you even consider what her expectations and fantasies during the next month might have been? I expect a bobblehead was waaay down her list.

Good luck in recovering from this.

Should have got her a better gift so she gives you bobblehead.

Re: another girlfriend problem: i got her a bobblehead for her birthda

Upon further reflection, you should have had two bobbleheads made of yourself, one with a skinny body, one fat.

Send them about a day apart, with the skinny one arriving first. With the fat one, attach a note wishing her a happy birthday and also explaining that you won't be there because you don't want to end up looking like the second bobblehead.

What site is this? I wanna get a bobblehead, and if the broad don't like it, then I will just Money Shot on it and leave it on her nightstand.

i thought about it, but that has essentially no value if we break up. a bobblehead of yourself will have value forever, in that it will be funny to look at and explain to people how you got it. also in the office, dwight gets a bobblehead of himself, i didn't want to betray the show.

I think this is a pretty cool gift. For a gf though, its not very romantic, and after you asked for a picture her imagination probabl went wild, expecting something grand.

If someone got me one of these for my birthday, I would think it was cool.

You should have gotten her the battery-operated "bobblehead" variety. She would have enjoyed that more.

Re: another girlfriend problem: i got her a bobblehead for her birthda

hahahaha i would have spent hours waiting for the "other" present, given that this was clearly a joke gift.

if there was no "other" present, you'd better be spending those hours i'm waiting thinking of one, because WTF?! a BOBBLEHEAD?! especially a $100 bobblehead?!

also this is very interesting on another level; isn't your girlfriend ridiculously tall and thin? so doesn't she look like a bobblehead in her own right?

BiCuriousGeorge 01-05-2007 05:49 PM

Re: another girlfriend problem: i got her a bobblehead for her birthda

she's 5'7'' 120 pounds. which is thin, but not "ridiculously" thin. i said she was 5'9'' in that other thread which was a mistake.

Why are you guys bashing the guy so hard. It's a cute gift, and if the girl can't see it for something cute than she is a bitch.

Seriously, only on an internet forum do guys ask what gift to give their girlfriend, of whom they have no photos, and to whom they need to mail the gift.

My girlfriend is from Niagara Falls. She is a model.
