What Would You Attribute to Your Success?

Give me some one-liners. What's the biggest thing you associate your success with?

My limit poker history /experience is largely the latter.
My original introduction to poker - 3 years of winning in small-stakes live nl games at college based on an entirely instinctual understanding of the game and a roughly 40/10 style - makes me grateful for the former.

I'm really really good at sucking out.

Also, I've always been very smart and good at games and puzzles. I also used to play M:TG so I had some experience with the concept of reading hands and thinking how your actions on one turn would affect later ones, both of which are very applicable to poker.

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?

Also, table selection is huge. I don't get to play as many hands as a lot of people but I'm always in good games.

Willingness to learn. Not liking to lose.

Lol.

I think "not tilting very often" would be much better.

Makes sense. From my perspective, game selection is the thing you have going for you the most.

Table selection and emotional control. Those may be the only two reasons I've had any success at mid/high stakes, and the only reasons I may have success at higher games, i.e. 50/100+.

I honestly think that almost any reasonably intelligent person can beat this game if they want to. I happened to read a few books and also select tables well.

I honestly don't think i'm terribly succsessfull, just a Mr. Average.

This is so true. It's very *easy* to react, or to rote play.

Think first. Bet later. I like that.

I really genuinely like poker. I still like playing after hundreds of thousands of hands. I like learning about it, reading about it, and playing. After trying to help a number of my friends, I am positive this is why I have enjoyed so much success.

I think determination is probably the biggest one for myself personally.

Seat Selection

You can play at a decent table and not be in a great seat.
