Ran well in poker genetics 23 years ago. [/ QUOTE ] and [ QUOTE ] Studied my @$$ off. [/ QUOTE ] My limit poker history /experience is largely the latter. My original introduction to poker - 3 years of winning in small-stakes live nl games at college based on an entirely instinctual understanding of the game and a roughly 40/10 style - makes me grateful for the former. uhm theres not a straddle button on the internet, haha.

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
I'm really really good at sucking out.
Also, I've always been very smart and good at games and puzzles. I also used to play M:TG so I had some experience with the concept of reading hands and thinking how your actions on one turn would affect later ones, both of which are very applicable to poker. |
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Also, table selection is huge. I don't get to play as many hands as a lot of people but I'm always in good games.
|
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Prefering poker to life.
|
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
the only reason i get by is from table selection.
|
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Patience - when I have it I am good, when I don't I'm bad
|
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Willingness to learn. Not liking to lose.
I dont feel particular successfull in poker though. Still need to learn how to log more hours. |
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Think first. Bet later.

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
The up side of variance at the right time
|
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
Table selection and emotional control. Those may be the only two reasons I've had any success at mid/high stakes, and the only reasons I may have success at higher games, i.e. 50/100+.

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
I honestly think that almost any reasonably intelligent person can beat this game if they want to. I happened to read a few books and also select tables well.
I honestly don't think i'm terribly succsessfull, just a Mr. Average. |

Think first. Bet later. [/ QUOTE ] This is so true. It's very *easy* to react, or to rote play. Think first. Bet later. I like that. |
Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
I really genuinely like poker. I still like playing after hundreds of thousands of hands. I like learning about it, reading about it, and playing. After trying to help a number of my friends, I am positive this is why I have enjoyed so much success.

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
being brought up with in a culure where 'the way you play the game is more important than winning'

Re: What Would You Attribute to Your Success?
experience, studying, determination, game selection, not tilting.
I think determination is probably the biggest one for myself personally. |
