1 - Why should anyone care? This is the first time I've seen their Who's Now segment and I was impressed with how stupid it was.

2 - If I asked my Mom, sister and GF who David Beckham is ALL of them would know he's some good looking soccer star from England (and I think all might know that he's coming to the U.S.)
None of them would have any clue who LT is.

LT would win by a landslide. Im so absolutely 100% on this.

Lets assume most old people know neither, middle aged would tend to know LT as Americans, young adults wouldm most likely know both, and and kids would really work in LT's favor.

In the case of my GF, sister and mom I could even go so far as to say, "You know. LT is ladainian tomlinson. He's this amazing running-back for the San Diego Chargers who is the best player in the league and has been breaking all kinds of records for touchdowns and stuff" and they would STILL have no idea who the hell I was talking about.


If I said Peyton Manning or David Beckham they would immediately know who I was talking about without me needing to say anymore.

I would be willing to bet that my 91 year-old grandmother in West Virginia would be able to identify Beckham or Manning also and would have absolutely no clue who Tomlinson is.

if this is the extent of it, you need to do way more to convince anyone beckham is suddenly going to enhance soccer's image. ("This guy is going to be very popular around the US.") That means galaxy season tickets, MLS getting bigger, etc. that isn't proved due to some friendlies selling out...

The fact is the Galaxy currently have the highest attendance in MLS, and they are [censored]. The sole reason for them having the highest attendance in the league is because of Beckham's arrival. They sold an ass load of season tickets before the season started. Teams around the league are expecting sellouts when the Galaxy come to town. The only exception are teams playing in Football stadiums because there is no way 60,000 are going to watch the Galaxy.

During the summer, the Rose Bowl was sold out for Chivas vs. Barcelona. Reliant Stadium was sold out for Club America vs. Barcelona. U of Phoenix was sold out earlier this year for US vs. Mexico (in a friendly).

1. Soccer in America = obscure.

2. By extension, MLS = obscure.

3. Your claim = Beckham dramatically increases soccer's popularity.

4. Since your claim is not common knowledge, and since soccer has been a failure in the US for a long time, you have to prove your claim.
