**Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
So, I just won my second intramural title of my undergrad career. This one was in dodgeball. 10-0 overall for the season (8-0 regular season and 2-0 playoffs). My first IM championship was in softball last spring where we were also undefeated.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
My soccer team is currently destroying bitches and as soon as I actually show up to a game not drunk we will really rock. All of our games are schedule right in the middle of happy hour, so I just dress in soccer gear, go drink, and head to the game.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
Our football team sucked, I'm just waiting to do extremely well in Ultimate again and hopefully better in Table Tennis Singles... last year I played a Chinese professor, he was the [censored].

University of Michigan Math Dept's indoor soccer team ftw!
2006 IM champs (lost in first round of 2007 playoffs to team that ended up winning -- retribution this winter!). |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
It doesn't really matter til the Playoffs, but our IM flag football team has won our first 2 games by a combined score of 49-0.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
I just graduated in June as the two-time defending IM Softball co-ed Division I (that's right, DIVISION I MFERS) champs at Cal Poly. We pwn. Our Fall title was pretty sweet as we were just 3-2 in the regular season and turned it on in the playoffs, and in the Spring we won every game (7-0).
Also won a basketball title and another softball title in 2005. |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
currently doing ok in our intramural soccer here in England. Should win our league and make the playoffs. No refs though so it gets pretty heated, if you demand a bad decision studs challenges are going in all over your arse. Good fun though, maybe I'll last 80 minutes if i turn up when not hungover/still drunk.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
Christ, intramurals with no refs here would end in fights absolutely every single game.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
I used to ref for intramurals... it was the easiest job ever plus i got paid while i played the sports. Oh, and I am the reigning pickleball champion... I'm kind of a big deal.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
Pickleball is fun.
My team won the "prestigious" Mens Independent B Intramural Championship here at Illinois. The B league was the biggest division team wise (~80 started), 32 made the playoffs and we ended up winning it all. We really had no business winning, but we were super scrappy and won all of our playoff games by 8 points or less. The best part was after the game. We had a few cases of Stones left over, so naturally we went outside and sprayed them all over each other while blasting "We are the Champions" from our speakers outside. Tonight, we are getting our t-shirts and I'm sure a shitshow will ensue. |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
Top 2 at my school get beer mugs saying intramural champions for bowling. My team has managed to bubble in 3rd or 4th for the last 4 semesters. We choke big time.

[/ QUOTE ] We had one league that had no refs - 4 on 4 half-court basketball (best of 3 games to 11 by 1's and 2's), call your own fouls. Actually worked out pretty well, I don't think anyone was making egregious calls against the other time at any point. The championship game was kinda fun, it went 3 games and was pretty close at the end, and we were basically hammering the [censored] out of each other but nobody wanted to call anything. That said, that league certainly wasn't as competitive as full court basketball. mahgeetah, even if the job was easy, did you get a lot of [censored] from players? It's probably not that fun to get ragged on when you make a bad call. I remember in a playoff game once our best player fouled out on some BS calls and we were probably yelling at the ref for the rest of the game about it. Also, my school had a couple intramural poker tournaments that were just LOL. Awful blind levels, dealers didn't have a clue, etc etc standard stuff for a college-sponsored event I imagine. |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
My floor hockey team last year was the number 1 seed entering the playoffs and managed to lose in the first round 11-0, that has to count for something.

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
I've been on some pretty horrible IM teams, although we've kinda had the same group of guys for four years now and we've gone from getting demolished in everything to being like .500.
Anyways the best story I have is in B-league basketball where we play the champs from last season. Their team is three girls who make everything and three tall skilled dudes one of which can dunk. They're up by about 30 when one of the guys gets a steal at the top of the key. He fakes a lay-up, tosses it to himself off the backboard, and shoots a three. Forgive us for not running back too hard. Next possession I undercut him on a rebound, and he whirls and elbows me in the mouth. We lock up for a second before everyone grabs us, but I do manage to headbutt one of the girls with the back of my head by accident. We're both suspended for the rest of the year. Three days later my tooth falls out. Favorite moment is from Tuesday where we won a softball game playing 8 v 10 to make the playoffs, ending with me catching a line drive right at me with the bases loaded in the last inning and us up by one run. |

[/ QUOTE ] Haha, that reminds me of this one time we won a men's softball game with 7 players to the other team's 10 and we crushed them. It was like 24-4 or something like that. 2 infielders = ez game. |

edit: i also refereed basketball soph year and managed to botch a call towards the end of a game which cost the game for a team... i guess i really do suck at IM |

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
Quick questions:
How much do IM's cost at your school? I think it's ridiculous when we pay 180 for basketball and the game gets delayed because a guy takes the gameball and goes home and there's no replacements. How many people make "playoffs" Here it's basically the top half of the leagues, and they combine different nights at the end too. |

As far as playoffs, usually you have to win just once and not forfeit twice to make the playoffs. |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
They are free at UMD (included in student fees) and you only need to show up to all 3 season games (and show good sportmanship) in order to make the playoffs (which are double elim)

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
At UofI most leagues are like $80 to enter that meet more than one day. One day things are usually $40 or so for the team.
In most sports, teams are place in 5-team divisions where the top two advance to the playoffs. So, usually each team gets 4 reg. season games then goes to the playoffs if they do well enough. In flag football, we played 4 reg. season games and 6 games in the playoffs (including Champions League) - seems kinda funny. |
Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
ours are free at Marist, last season for basketball we went 5-1, won our division outright (2 divisions, one on monday and one on wednesday, we were wednesday) and we dont make the playoffs while the 2nd and 3rd place teams who we beat make the playoffs. biggest load of crap ever

Re: **Official: Intramural Sports Thread**
IM Flag football team is currently in Elite 8 of a 32 team tourny with a 3rd round playoff game tomorrow evening. 3 playoff TD's, 2 of which game winning, in 2 playoff games, no big deal. I is a boss. Trip report after 2morrows game cuz everybody cares about my mediocre accomplishments
