Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
Needle, (at least I assume the Kutztown team is yours) did you draft before knowing that Morrison was going to be out for the year? I know this is a dynasty league, but that still has to suck.

[/ QUOTE ] The draft was going on just as updates as to the severity of the injury were becoming known. At the time I knew it was likely he was out a significant part of the year, not sure what Needle77 knew. Drafted him in round 9 of the regular draft which wasn't a bad time to gamble on him. |

Is it possible (easy) to post the draft order on this? [/ QUOTE ] Not the most user-friendly format, but here goes. Note that the first two rounds are rookie draft, the rest is the regular draft. So Round 3 is really Round 1, with Assani (Vatican City) taking Marion at #1 overall. I was thrilled to get Yao at #11. Was astounded that at #13 and #14 MEbenhoe and Needle77 both passed on Bosh for Duncan and Okafor, respectively. Biggest mistake in the draft IMO. Vince Carter dropped pretty far. Not sure how you guys survived a 16-person 19-round draft, hope there wasn't a lot of strategy at the end.

Why do rookies first?

Needle, (at least I assume the Kutztown team is yours) did you draft before knowing that Morrison was going to be out for the year? I know this is a dynasty league, but that still has to suck. [/ QUOTE ] I hadn't heard about the injury, I feel really really stupid not making last second checks on injuries. I thought I was well prepared for the draft and I think there were only 5 rounds that went the way I thought they would. The Morrison pick was one of the rounds were literally all 3 or 4 of my players on my board were taken back to back to back. I'm very pissed off about the draft and have to figure out a way to fix things up. Ugh, it all started with a panic pick in the first round with Okafor and Bosh goes right after. |

[/ QUOTE ] I think I made a mistake taking Tony Parker over Vince, but TP is 25 and shoots a high percentage. [ QUOTE ] Why do rookies first? [/ QUOTE ] I was wondering the same thing. Makes NO sense IMO, but also wasn't much of a big deal either. About the draft in general: As Needle's post alluded to, things didn't go as planned for some of us. I was woefully unprepared and felt rushed at times. I definitely made a few mistakes (Pierce that early), but I got it together and made some nice middle round picks. Hilarious trade offers received so far: Jarrett Jack and David West for Tony Parker and Antawn Jamison. |

Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
I only have one C because I didn't check to see if Varejao was actually a C. Anyone looking to trade?
I made 3 picks that I regret but I'm ok with my early drafting. I wasn't very well prepared. On the plus side, I think I drafted several versatile players and could take the team in a lot of directions. |

I'm a complete moron and dead money in this league so I don't think it was that suprising that I took him. I stopped paying attention to chat the second I realized I was to drunk and shouldn't be typing because I was making a fool out of myself with my comments, I think I said that too. I was watching the football games and going over my sheets the whole time, really wasn't reading the chat at all, ugh... Edit: That should be clear due to the fact that I didn't know Morrison was injured until I read it on ESPN.com yesterday before the Night games. |
Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
Best pick of the draft was David Lee at 90, imo.
Not because of value or anything, but because you could just hear superfanboi Thayer's "SON OF A GODDAMN BITCH!" at him not falling just one more spot... |
Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
it's an awesome value, too, if someone how Isiah is gone next year or the year after and Lee is putting up 13/11s on a nightly basis.

Ugh, it all started with a panic pick in the first round with Okafor and Bosh goes right after. [/ QUOTE ] Man, not to pile on, but if there's anything that everyone should be prepared for its the first 2 rounds. That's the easy part. It's definitely tough to do the draft though. That's why we stressed so hard about being prepared. I totally botched a couple of picks myself. I'm sure Alex or I will do some sort of postdraft analysis and post to the league message board once we have time. |

Hilarious trade offers received so far: Jarrett Jack and David West for Tony Parker and Antawn Jamison. [/ QUOTE ] Yeah. That's Barbier. It's also why he got invited and why he's good for the league. Super active trader. Sends all sorts of insulting offers. You'll learn how to deal with his offers, but he's incredibly active, always provides someone to trade with, and is good for the league despite the fact that he'll irritate you from time to time. Sadly, he drafted/luckboxed into a monster team. |

Why do rookies first? [/ QUOTE ] 1. Everyone's tired after the full draft. 2. It enables undrafed rookies to be drafted in the regular draft if someone desires. |

My board looked decent after the first half of the first round, I had Howard, Duncan, Wade, Ming, Bosh, Okafor, Iguodala, and Boozer in my queue or so I thought. The problem was in my pre-rankings I forgot to move Bosh up there. I wasn't really paying attention to each individual pick. Ugghhhhh, that whole draft is making me sick. |

O-ver-rat-ed, Clap, Clap, Clap-clap-clap
Isiah's an idiot, but he's good at spotting legit NBA talent. There's a reason he enjoyed Lee's 10/10 last year...then went and intentionally replaced him with a chukker PF with major personal issues/history. Lee at 90 isn't awful - but his production will decline significantly from last year imo. |

[ QUOTE ] 64 Vatican City State Pretty Bunny Princesses Leandro Barbosa (G PHO) [/ QUOTE ] Is this a typo? Did Barbosa really get drafted in the 2nd round? [/ QUOTE ] Barbosa was the #13 overall player last year using this scoring format and hes only 24 years old. He also plays guard, which is imo a harder spot to fill than forward. When Nash fades in 3-4 years Barbosa should just be entering his prime, although obviously that great team might still not be constructed as it is today. The only real negative that I found with him is that Hill may impact his playing time a bit. |
Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
Barbosa's an interesting one...nobody really knows how/what he'd produce on another team where he's not the 4th best offensive option on the squad behind Amare/Nash/Marion - and by another team, I mean not the current Suns. In a couple of years with Nash done and Marion gone, will be very interesting...ceiling seems to be mini-Iversonesque (mid 20s scoring, better 3p% than AI). A lot will depend on what happens to his %s and his TO if he has to create his own shots instead of get a lot from the system.

Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
My best pick: I like the Josh Childress pick. Like Marion, he has a great all around game that doesn't hurt you in any area. His upside may not be top notch, but barring injury he should be a main contributor on my team for years to come.
My worst pick: Don't like the Kapono pick. He probably won't repeat last year's numbers. Ty Thomas and Boris Diaw were still avilable. I also kinda wish I took Dalembert over Battier just for position scarcity. Best value pick of draft(not my own): Wally Szczerbiak, Ronnie Brewer, and Hilton Armstrong all jump out to me as good late round picks. For earlier rounds I think that Dirk and Caron Butler fell too far. Dirk was my #2 rated player, and I thought about Caron over Allen/Barbosa. Biggest reach(not my own): Rajon Rondo and its not even close. David Lee, Monta Ellis, Josh Childress, Andrew Bynum, and a ton of others were still avilable. Crazy "what if" scenario: If Camby had fallen I would've started my team with Marion/Allen/Camby. Best first 1/2 of draft: Boston Celtics really seemed to have tons of great picks fall to them. I like their draft early on. Best second 1/2 of draft: I honestly like my own a lot. I really love the Scola/Gibson duo to start off my second 1/2 of the draft. |

I see people say "the system" all the time when talking about the Suns, but they run a basic fastbreak and pick and roll offense. Barbosa(or Nash when hes out there) seem to be the ones creating the system with their fast paced play. I think that Barbosa would be fine in any offense that allowed him to fastbreak which is about 1/2 of the teams in the league. |
Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
It'll be said a million times over the next couple of years, but man I hate that he named his team Boston Celtics.

Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
I'm gonna copy you Assani:
My best pick: Biedrins and Gordon in rounds 3/4. Snagging Sasha and Hilton as late as I did, I'm pretty happy with too. Shaq could prove to be monsterous late round value for a year or two, and luckily I'm strong at C even if he doesn't play a game. My worst pick: Clark is right, I prob shouldn't have taken Duncan round 1. Best Value Pick (not my own): gotta go with Yao somehow falling to 11 Worst Value Pick: Rajon Best first half of draft: Really like the bombers first half Best second half of draft: I honestly think that this was me, but to not sound too cocky I'll say Jersey. |

[/ QUOTE ] When a player joins the Nash Suns, his fantasy production jumps about 20%. When a player leaves the Nash Suns, his fantasy production drops about 20%. Most of that is due to %s and TOs. Joe Johnson was a fantasy god in Phoenix ($12.3M production his last year there)...his scoring has increased considerably, but his %s tumbled and his TOs climbed for a net halving of his value (approx.) from Phoenix to Atlanta the past couple of years ($6.6M/yr). Quentin Richardson was serviceable for his 1 year with Phx/Nash ($4.5M production)...he's been a blank the past two years in NY ($1.5M/yr production). Raja Bell joins Nash/Phx and he goes from $1.4M production in Utah to an $8.8M/yr production in Phx. Or maybe those things are all just a random coincidence and Phoenix plays the same as every other team in the NBA. |

Shaq could prove to be monsterous late round value for a year or two, and luckily I'm strong at C even if he doesn't play a game. [/ QUOTE ] If he plays 82 games he has no impact on your strength at C. You have a good FT% and you'll discover that Shaq playing 4 games in a week will cost you a full category all by his lonesome - and he doesn't give you enough in the bulk anymore to warrant your team needing 5/8 categories to win. |
Re: Post Draft Fantasy Basketball Thread
For me, my best stretch was Carter/Miller/Davis at 3-4-5, though I guess I got good value with Haywood in the 10th and May in the 18th. Francisco Garcia is decent value as a flyer as well, imo.
Worst pick: I'd say Camby, but serviceable centers are so scarce and he was such a huge step above every other center available...Maybe Harrington in round six, or Mutombo near the end instead of Foyle, Harrison or Elson. Best first half - no clue. Best Second half -Ottawa and not particularly close - Perkins, Gerald Green, Blatche, Atkins (meh), Crawford, Bonzi, Reggie Evans, Hayes, Brezec, O'Bryant |
