Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
Yes its true...I guess Trop wants to compete and they are implementing a bad beat jackpot as of December 1st, 2007. Now I unofficially heard (from one of floormen that registers people for tournaments) that it starts out at 100K. I find that hard to believe.
Anyone else heard anything about this and know what amount it will start out at? Not that I give a [censored] about the BB Jackpot but I prefer to play at a place that has one. |
Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
I've been hearing the rumor, hoping it was not true. Well looks like it will be. I always recommend Tropicana for 1/2NL and Showboat for low buy-in tournaments. Looks like I will need to start recommending the Taj as of 12/1/2007. I personally do not like playing at places with a BBJ, and if given the option, I play at places without a BBJ.
I find it funny that the 2 most popular poker rooms in Atlantic City, Borgata and Trump Taj, do not have a BBJ. I find it hard to believe that it will start out at $100,000. Maybe $10,000, but the Tropicana is not doing that great of business to be starting the BBJ at $100,000 after every hit. Could be a opening day promotion, maybe the first table "opening day" to hit a BBJ splits $100,000. |
Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
A Borgata dealer said the Borgata doesn't want a BBJ because it invites a 'carvinal atmosphere.' (I don't know how true this is). She did mention that Trop was going to start one.

Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
The carnival atmosphere is about the last thing a bbjp will bring to a room. Excalibur's wheel brings a carnival atmosphere. Large bbjps bring in the tight, whiny, coffee/cigarette breath walkers who complain that a tourist (who foolishly came to play poker) is breathing their friggin' air. So the choice to not have a bbjp may be a good choice, but the reason quoted to you is purely bullpucky.

Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
at worst it will attract more bad players with dreams of "the big one" Its pretty standard these days. In my state, jackpot rake has been $2 for quite some time. More jackpots = more games, or so some one thought. It is spreading too.

Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
way back when the Trop had a bad beat jackpot, but i don't think they raked for it. it was promotional (someone confirm or correct this, my memory is shaky).
are they going to rake for the BBJ this time around? |
Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
I will be at the Tropicana on Wednesday. I will inquire about the BBJ and renovations and report back.

Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
The old Trop BBJ was funded by Tropicana. Years ago the CCC didn't let casinos do a jackpot rake. Harrah's must have convinced them to allow one.

Re: Bad Beat Jackpot at Tropicana Atlantic City
Yeah, I'm real curious about the renovations. I wonder how many tables they'll keep ? I'm guessing around 30, give or take a few. I can't see them having the 43 or so that are there now.

What would be good for the Tropicana Atlantic City...
Shuffling machines, higher stakes limit games, better beer, better booze, free parking, hotter waitresses, some interest from the floor in getting games going...

Re: What would be good for the Tropicana Atlantic City...
I don't have too much faith in the Trop's management. If they chose to, they could easily be the 3rd best room in AC by a MILE. The upgrades, etc. are a good thing, but they really need a lot of changes to be great again.
Other than the autoshufflers, I don't see any of those things happening after the renovations. They'll probably get some new carpeting, chairs, upgrade the tables, maybe an electronic wait list, etc. I really hope that the Trop doesn't become like the majority of AC poker rooms and spread mainly 1/2 & 2/5 NL, with 1-2 tables of 2/4 & maybe a 3/6 game (woo hoo !). That would suck... |
