Disturbing e-mail from amazon.co.uk

This was recieved today. I had pre-ordered over a month ago.

"Dear Customer,

We wanted to give you an update on the status of your order [026-1184854-4715663].

Unfortunately, the release date for the item(s) listed below was changed by the supplier, and we
need to provide you with a new estimated delivery date based on the new release date:

Matt Flynn (Author), et al "Professional No-Limit Hold 'em: Volume
I: 1" [Paperback]
Estimated arrival date: 19/09/07 - 20/09/07

We are sorry for any inconvenience this causes."

WTF?? Another 2 months? I can't wait that long!

Can anyone let me know of the quickest possible way to get a copy shipped to the UK a.s.a.p. I dont care about cost. Can I order it direct from 2+2? How long will it take to reach me? Thanks guys.

Check with conjelco.com

TIGERsrm 07-19-2007 01:10 PM

Re: Disturbing e-mail from amazon.co.uk

I just tried to register with conjelco and recieved an error message stating that my e-mail address was already registered with them. I have definately not registered with them in the past and nobody can have the same e-mail as me so this is really bizarre.

Has anyone else had this problem? Are they related to 2+2 and therefore registering with 2+2 registers with them also? I will try to contact them now.

Highstakes bookshop?

Re: Disturbing e-mail from amazon.co.uk

Highstakes website is saying they won't have the book until the 30th. It's also £3 more and theres the p&p on top, but if Amazon don't get there act together they may be the best bet.

2+2/Conjelco and my site are the fastest avenues.

I've had no email, and my "My Account" page is still showing 23 Jul 2007 - 25 Jul 2007 as the estimated delivery date.

Maybe they've had more pre-orders than they anticipated and can't cover them all ?

How long ago did you pre-order? I guess they will be giving priority to earliest orders but I ordered well over a month ago.

Well I am very sure I ordered well before you so whatever policy amazon.co.uk are using, it aint fair! lol

Anyway I have now cancelled and ordered from Profpoker site, postage is pretty damn high but it'll be worth it.

I ordered mine from www.highstakes.co.uk they seem to be good for these more specialist books. They are based in London so if you live there you might be able to pick one up as sson as they get stock.

Me and me Big Mouth!!

My email of gloom arrived this morning.

although perhaps they will send the books out sooner than the new date given!! I would be surprised if it took Amazon 2 months to get it in stock at their uk branch and deliver it. I know the book will have been heavily in demand, but the print run surely would have taken that into account!...besides, looking at the number of people cancelling their order and going to Highstakes means that i will be further up the list at amazon

Lucky i have got Sam o'connors book still to read (and many other poker books lying unread to keep me going until they arrive )

In Amazon, pre-orders will be handled last.

Re: Disturbing e-mail from amazon.co.uk

Hi banana:

While I don't know exactly, I'm sure Amazon.UK will get their books sooner than they are saying. My best guess is that even though we ship directly to Amazon.com and Amazon.Ca (Canada), Amazon.UK probably gets our books from either Ingrambooks or Baker & Taylor. These are two big wholesalers we deal with, and our shipments to them will go out no later than Wednesday. That means that at least one of these organizations will probably be shipping to Amazon.UK by the end of this month.

Best wishes,
Mason

Hi Mason,

Thanks for that.

It was what i was thinking!
I've noticed the books i get through Amazon uk always arrive before the expected delivery date and i am confident this will again be the case.

I'm afraid I don't share the optimism with Amazon, they don't seem to be anywhere near as good lately.

They are high, but given the exchange rate, it still works out ok compared to waiting and buying from a uk shop.

I can recommend highstakes.co.uk as well - amazon.co.uk have been pretty bad lately for me especially for poker books - books suddenly out of stock, not available etc. Highstakes have bailed me out when amazon let me down.

If anyone in the UK is willing to wait until the end of the month (when highstakes say they will have PNL) you can probably save a bit on the shipping cf. ordering from the US .

I am just a satisfied customer by the way, I have no affiliation with any booksellers!

dirty banana2007 07-22-2007 03:48 PM

Re: Disturbing e-mail from amazon.co.uk

I think the service from Highstakes is excellent. The orders are always sent the next working day if the books are in stock, so there is very little wait between ordering time and delivery, and they are always happy to stay open a little later if customers want to pop in and have a look around.

However, I am sticking with Amazon.uk on this purchase because,

A) i havent had any problems previously with orders through them. (including pre-orders, and i have faith that Mason will make sure the books are sent out to the suppliers asap, unlike other publishers!)

B) i am in no rush at the moment for PNL & the SNG book as i have other books i am reading through first, so it isnt costing me anything in missed reading time.

C) I play mainly limit online, and barely play no limit as my standard is poor, therefore waiting a little bit longer isnt going to cost me anything at the tables! (especially given that my opponents are unlikely to either have read it or understood it completely either).

D) I paid for the books using a free voucher earned as part of a cleared bonus!! which along with the free delivery means that i am happy to wait a bit longer if i have too, because it's not costing me anything!!

and finally....

E) Given how many people are threatening to drop amazon and go through other sources, it makes it all the more possible i will move up through the pecking order for deliveries!!, recieving it quicker than the new expected date given by Amazon...and the other sources will suffer a supply crunch!!

Regardless of how and when we get our copies, i am sure we will all think it worthwhile

I ordered it together with 17 other books on amazon for only $7.70 shipping charges per book. From the Netherlands that is cheaper and faster than buying the books in euros with only €2 shipping charges for the whole package.

Priority Mail International - $25.86

can't you use the "Priority Mail Flat Rate Envelope"? it would divide price by 2 for same speed of delivery.
