Best place to stay in AC midweek.

3 friends and myself are planning to go to AC during the week next week. What hotel is cheapest but nicest.

So far I found Hilton and Trop for $89 and $69. I think this is the best deals before leaving the boardwalk and we dont want to stay in a motel.

What do some of the other hotels offer with a poker rate?

Borgata poker rate is $100 Sun-Thurs.

I've heard good things about the Howard Johnson is Absecon (about 3 miles out of Atlantic City). Rooms are nice and run about $35/night, ($40 with taxes).

Right now, many of the casinos are offering special "hot deals", which are around $60-$70/night.

Hilton has a poker rate of $29/night, but it can get confusing and sometimes your reservation gets lost. You also have to have a past history of play there to be considered. The room rate may have been suspended since the room is currently being relocated. There are a few temporary tables on the casino floor.

Is it better to book through the casino's website. or a site like orbitz.com or travelocity.com?

The $29 room rate is still active at the Hilton and you should be able to get it at least on Monday and Tuesday.

You're not going to get any poker rate at Borgata without a lot of prior play.

FWIW Hilton tables were still on the floor as of last week. Trop gets my vote, super fishy

I would book directly with the hotel. With a confirmation number, your reservation is pretty much a guarentee, and the casino can not say things like "we don't have a reservation for you" or "your reservation is not valid".

Sometimes, espically around this time of the year, you can find "hot rates" directly with the casino that sometimes won't be shown on sites like Expedia or Orbitz.

That's right...Expedia is usually what I use to find places midweek. Look the cheapest place that is in AC but not a casino is the El Greco...which honestly is a fleebag but it will be about $49 to $55 SUN through THUR. Howard Johnson (there are two but I am talking about the one at Tennessee and Pacific Avenue) will be about $65 including tax for one night's stay. It is nicer and a good alternative for not much more money, if you stay in AC but not in a casino and want to stay cheaply then stay there. If you have a car and want to go to Absecon I am sure there is cheaper.

AS far as the casinos go....Trop midweek has the best poker rate. I believe it is either $59 or $69 midweek. If you want to risk it you can go down there without a reservation...play 4 hours and then ask if they have poker rooms available. It is hit or miss though sometimes they say they have rooms sometimes they don't have them. If you already have a card you can call them and ask if you can reserve a room which sometimes people can do. If that doesn't work the El Greco (which is a flea bag but is cheap) is right up the street or the HJ is a $2 JItney ride away which is adequate but not as nice as staying in the casino. Check Expedia if you just want to reserve a room. It doesn't require a deposit but does require a cc with a 48 hour cancellation deadline or your card gets charged. My suggestio is to try and wing it at the Trop with your buddies then when all else fails head down to the HJ. It will be the same rate midweek whether you reserve on expedia or just show up. I believe it is about $65 with tax...I have never seen them sold out during mid-week and I must have stayed there a dozen times, so you are pretty safe if you don't have a reservation....good luck.

I got the poker rate at the Borgata the very first time I went there.

What limit were you playing? Was this before or after they opened the new room?

Also if you are looking to play at the borgata, most nights during the week at trump marina is $69. Its decent casino to stay at and right next door to the borgata.

Unless you were playing 100/200, or else there was a snowstorm and 3 feet of snow fell and no one could get to the casino but you, consider yourself very lucky you got the room rate at Borgata up front.

Granted, it was still done under the assumption you give them play or else you would have been charged the regular rate.

I've stayed at the Borgota twice on weekdays and got the poker rate both times without giving any evidence of prior play.

The last time I stayed there with a friend and when I asked the brush to apply their time to our room hours the brush told me they don't keep track of play with regard to the room rate. If you have the room rate you have it. BTW this was in April, 2007 and I have never clocked more than 4 hours in a day and always play at 10-20 or below.

IMHO, the difficulty of getting the Borgota poker rate on weekdays is highly overstated

That may be true now, but it used to be very difficult. They would look at how many hours you played and at what limits, and 10/20 wasn't good enough to be considered.

WTF...I play 10/20 and was told I would have to play 20-30 hours per week to get a weekday poker rate at Borgata.

Re: Best place to stay in AC midweek.

I live in Ohio and mentioned both times I'm coming in from out of town. Maybe that helps. Plus, I gave no prior play statistics either time since the first time I had none and during that trip, which was a few months after they opened, they were not tracking time yet for rooms (and still aren't).

Try taking an out of state newbie roomy and make the reservation in their name. Looks to me that you either want no time or lots and lots of high limit time but not just a decent amount of play.

Out-of-town will help. AC is dying to turn into a destination type of place.

Have you checked the Borgata website for your offers? I play 10-20, less than 200 hours since June, and I qualify for the poker rate starting Nov 1. Wasn't sure if I had suddenly met enough hours or it is just easier to get in the winter though.
