OK, more than a few minutes. Weirdly hypnotic.

Seems like the point is to trap the cat (first from leaving the playing field, then from moving at all).

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

yeah. you can click on any light green circle to darken it. cat can't go onto dark circles. cat is trying to get out to the white.

Pretty good, I like it.

There was an old gameshow like this hosted by Bill Cullen. I can't remember the name.

Can't....stop...playing....

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

To win you confine the cat to one circle. Your initial setup is pretty important. Now that I've beaten it once it may start to lose its appeal.

Damn, just spent 45 min playing.

Fun until I figured it out. Its pretty easy to beat every time.

Fun game. It wouldn't be possible to win if you started on a completely blank board.. correct?

level 2 has only 5 pieces blocked to start...

I dont see how you're supposed to beat it.

Anyone post a ss of a game they won? The cat always escapes for me.

Make sure you use the circles that are already filled in. Don't stay parallel to the cat, cut him off when you can. And stay ahead of him, block out circles far off and make him commit to a bad path.

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

Yeah, I figured it out after I posted, I was putting the blocks directly next to the cat

youtalkfunny 10-21-2007 02:35 AM

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

Watch the cat's first move. That's the direction he wants to go.

Start putting up "fence posts". Fence posts are two dark circles, with a light circle in between.

_X_X_X_X_X_X_X_X

Of course, you start with the post in the middle of that line.
________X________

See which way the cat leans. If he heads towards the right:

________X___X____

If he looks like he's going between the posts:

________X_X_X____

When he gives up, and makes a 90 degree turn, repeat the process.

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

OK, forget what I said, because I can't seem to win unless the cat is dumb and heads for a section already littered with blackened dots.

But here's one hint I can offer. When presented with the following:

http://i26.photobucket.com/albums/c1...bby/chatab.jpg

It's tempting to play A here, but don't do it. The dumb cat will waste a turn moving towards A, if you don't sew it up prematurely. Put a fence post at B, instead, then close A.

Again, if those two dark spaces between A and B didn't happen to be there already, I would've been screwed.

the cat is predictable it was fun while it was challenging.

I think a good test is calling out the exact square that you're gonna trap the cat on as soon as the game starts

Hmm.. maybe not. You do need some help (previously filled in circles) at some point. So I assume its possible to have useless circles.

Whether the software gives you those situations is another question, and I believe you can beat every one.

Kimbell175113 10-24-2007 11:13 PM

Re: Chat Noir, fun for a few minutes

When you trap him, and just have to take a bunch of clicks to finish him off, that's a great feeling of sadism.

This would be fun as a two-player game where one person controls the cat.
