Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

I know 2p2 doesn't take responsibility for the p2p transfers but they need to stop allowing threads and request. Too much scamming is going on and it's given twoplustwo a bad image on other poker forums. 2p2 should ban the post of transfers and keep it strictly to PMs

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

Or they could just require people to take a simple test before being allowed to register.

Something like "is the color red a color?" should probably suffice.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

what's so bad about it?? i'm sure most of the scamming has been because of mistakes made by the person who got scammed...

also, i know that thread allows for users to share experiences of transfers with other users, so a kind of rating sytem is in place too...

Your case is, unfortunately, an example to others of how not to do it.

If you had read the OP, you would have seen that the poster is on the "watch" list, and his playing-name is on the alleged scammers list.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

I don't know how better to protect the noob's other than really hitting them over the head with, "you HAVE to read the OP so that you know what to look for" but shouldn't banning/suspending the accounts of some of these suspected scammers be considered?

I admit that I haven't followed the scammer thread (also known as the player-transfer thread) very closely.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

I'll be the first to admit that I'm bitter about it so the MODs can feel free to delete this thread...I just didn't realize how much it really goes on here.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

Bob, if a mod is convinced that someone is scaming, we can ban them. It's just hard for us (Mike) to weed them out.

MicroBob 11-26-2007 07:14 PM

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

Exactly why we should consider not allowing the practice on 2+2 at all imo.
I think it's too much work to be monitored properly.

It strikes me as being unbelieveably and insanely easy for a banned scammer to go back and make a new account and take advantage of someone else.

Mike Haven 11-26-2007 07:36 PM

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

It strikes me as being unbelieveably and insanely easy to avoid being scammed if you read the OP and follow the comprehensive advice in it.

Very many honest transfers take place here daily. Obviously the few scams, (which would probably occur, thread or no thread), are discussed far more "loudly", and thereby a wrong impression is given to the casual observer.

The thread is much appreciated by the honest transferers, and it also herds the scammers into one place, where all but the most naive and careless should be able to avoid them, with little difficulty.

Bobo Fett 11-26-2007 07:40 PM

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

At least this way it's contained to one thread, and people can do their own research. It was locked for only a couple of days, and already a half-dozen threads had popped up. Even if those threads are not allowed, they'll stay up for brief periods until a mod gets to them, which allows enough time for the not-so-bright to get themselves scammed.

My thoughts:

1) Stupid people will find another way to get scammed - short-lived disallowed trading threads, PMs, shadier forums, what have you.

2) Intelligent people are able to use that thread as a valuable resource.

3) There are a few people somewhere in between the two that will get scammed in that thread, that might not have otherwise. However, I think there are many many more that are helped by thread.

Edit to add: What Mike said.

So is that all it takes to be a mod around here?

1) Be respectful to posters
2) Do something useful that makes 2+2 a better place
3) Don't cause any trouble
4) Have naked pictures of a red
5) Be a manservant of a red?
6) Pester reds until you are made.

imo 5 might be over the top.

Unless you are trading on some hidden site, which nobody has money on transferring with people who have 50 posts is just retarded.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

I got scammed, and it was 100% my fault for being in a rush and being stupid about the situation, if you are trading a sum of money that matters to you, theres pretty much a zero % chance that you will get scammed if you follow proper procedures... so just use your brain and you will be ok.

Re: Money transfers need to be banned from 2p2

Mike has done a GREAT JOB with the transfer thread and following his guidelines should reduce your odds of being ripped off by more than 90%. This allows a sort of rating system to steer you toward a fair transfer and away from scammers.

Without Mike's work we would have a nightmare. Many posters would be scammed out of many more thousands of dollars and modding would be much tougher for mods and admins. Posters would be complaining about getting transfer requests from people they have never met in real life and mods/admins would need to dole out warnings and punishments. I know I greatly appreciate all of Mike's hard work with that thread!

Thank you,

Jim Kuhn

Mike does an awesome job handling the scammers in the transfers thread. I think the thread should def stay up, its one of those resources that doesnt seem like much help...until you need it. People that get scammed most of the time have only themselves to blame
