Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
Fluffpop won tickets to Tool for tonight in a school raffle. The girl who aquired the tickets for the raffle is Melissa Joan Hart's sister and apperently knows the band members.
Jayrockets and myself are going tonight and basically the only info we have is that the tickets are at will-call under our name, and that we are on the "guest list." Anyone have any idea what being on the guest list means? The girl who arranged it is not available to explain and I dont want to miss out if it means we have backstage access or something. (I think this is a long shot and its probably something more like being able to skip the line to get in or w/e) |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
Not sure what 'guest list' means. But I had backstage passes for a Phish show a few years ago. It basically meant watching groupies crowd around hoping for a glimpse of any band members, while me and buddy picked at the cheese platter and drank flat beer. Then a couple guys from the band would come in, look around, single out the cutest girls and take them to the "real" backstage area (where only the band, crew, and select people hang out).
In retrospect though, it was some pretty tasty cheese. |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
when ive been on a guest list, it just meant the bouncer had my name at the front and i didnt have to buy a ticket/pay cover.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
It means something different every time. I've been on guest lists that varied from sitting in a VIP area w/free drinks, etc to skipping the line. With contest winners, a lot of times it entails a meet 'n greet with the artists - although that's more of a Jessica Simpson/'N Sync type thing and not Tool.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
A friend of a friend was on the list for a Ben Kweller show. When we showed up, we said so, the bouncer checked, and then let us in without paying or anything. We showed up about two songs before the end of their set, so no backstage or anything.

Yeah go to the Will Call and they have a list with names, bring ID.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
I was at a Phish show at Boston Garden once, and a backstage pass literally fell on me. I went backstage and drank some snapple. but I think being on the guest list just seems you get in, like you were at a regular club.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
I'm pretty sure it means Tool gets to hookup with Fluffpop while you watch from a roped-off area.
|
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
it just means you get in for free, you won't get any extra access.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
guys,
what does "getting in free" mean, knowing that we already have tickets reserved? or does the being on the guest list simply replace the need for tickets? |

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
at smaller venues it means you get in for free, usually you get on it because you know the band.
at medium venues it means the above, plus maybe you get a better seat or some drink tickets or something. or not. at a big venue it means the above, plus maybe you get a backstage pass or something. or not. usually it will be specified when you get the tickets. likely what this means is you can go in without paying, and not much else. |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
I don't think you guys are reading; he doesn't have to pay either way, guest list or not. The tickets were a prize, the perk is that he is on the "Guest List". Emily knows the tour manager (and the band; she also got me 311 signed limited edition lithographs if anyone knows how much to sell those for on ebay, she said they were worth bank but I have no idea how much to start them at) and thinks that the prizewinner (me or whomever I gave the tickets to) is going to be able to meet the band.

Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
With my job, I've been to a lot of concerts/sporting events/etc. VIP and it means something different almost everytime. Most often there are several levels of VIPness, with the passes letting you by some security, but not others. I've had VIP passes where I didn't even get free food, which is typically the minimum VIP bonus.
"Guest List" sounds extra weak, like "you can only skip the line" weak. |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
NL,
As many have said, it means different things. Mainly it just means that your name is on the guest list. So when you go to Will Call, make sure you tell him you are on the guest list, otherwise he will be looking for your name from the online ticket orderers and you won't be there. Often they will have multiple guest lists, so if they ask which one I assume you'd be on the Tool guest list. That just says what list your names will be under. You might have anything ranging from just a pair of tickets on that guest list to full backstage laminate passes. You'll find out when you get there. If you do have backstage access, there's a good chance that you will have like first level backstage access and then if fluffpop goes with you she will get to actually go hang out with the band in the real VIP backstage area. |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
NL,
Where are you going to take fluffpop to thank her for her super kind gesture of giving you these tickets instead of selling them for big bucks? I suggest Island Prime. Actually, you are a good guy, I bet you already have reservations there. |
Re: Being on the \"guest list\" at a concert
All,
Thanks for the replies. I'll post a trip report if anything cool happens but I have a feeling its just gonna be a "skip the line" type thing. |

NL,
There's a good chance you won't even get to skip the line. |
