Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

Does anyone want to prop bet on whether or not a 50K HU NL tourney goes down in the near future? I am trying to organize one to complement the 5K event Ansky is setting up in HSNL. I'll bet that the 50K event will happen if anyone wants to take the other side straight up.

Also, it's a huge brag for internet poker players that there is even a chance of getting 8 guys to put up 50K.

I am interested in getting in on some of the action but for a smaller sum. We can escrow if you want once I decide on an amount. Just one question, would the 50k trny be set up online or live?

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

tourney would be set up online. i'll bet up to 1k on the event happening.

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

i'll take the other side. but i don't think this is an even money shot... so give me 3/1 and we're on.

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

i think you'd have a much high chance of this going down if you chose full tilt instead since they have enough ultra-high stakes games to make people dropping 50k viable.

so bet against it?

and no, i'm not giving 3:1. straight up or not at all. i have to get people to put up 400K in total for this to happen. there are obviously many many logistical problems. if you dont want to bet straight up, forget it.

noone in his right mind would bet on something like this.

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

I just checked the HSNL thread and a lot of people seemed interested in the 50k trny. It will probably run if FTP or Stars allows it ...

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

I kind of assumed this thing would run in much the same fashion as the other HU tourneys that have been held for MSNL & HSNL. Basically someone trusted holds all the money, then they play a very low or zero buy-in tourney on Stars w/ custom rules for 300bb stacks & blinds that don't go up. The money gets paid out later.

I don't think arranging this as an actual 50k buy-in tourney via the sites would make sense (rake), and I doubt the sites would go for it as well.

2.5K rake.... imagine the FPP tho...

NU Star 07-05-2007 02:31 AM

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

I'd guess rake would be ~200-300 maybe.

Also: One of these days in your travels, a guy is going to show you a brand-new deck of cards on which the seal is not yet broken. Then this guy is going to offer to bet you that he can make the jack of spades jump out of this brand-new deck of cards and squirt cider in your ear. But, son, do not accept this bet, because as sure as you stand there, you're going to wind up with an ear full of cider.

12 (or 24) MSNL'ers wanna sattelite in? I think this would be cool and would fill a spot if needed

So, you're saying that the say way 32 people are going to send Ansky $160K in order to play the $5K tourney (something which, by itself, has never happened before - hey that's a lot of money) that some random 8 guys would send me $400K to hold for a few weeks until the tourney's over? That seems likely to you?

I'll hold the money.

Yeti 07-05-2007 11:20 AM

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

twp i don't know why you're making a huge deal over the holding of the money as the reason why it might not go ahead. the 8 guys who enter no doubt all play with each other every day online and are all reputable. there isn't even a need for a 3rd party to hold the money, they can just settle up at the end.

laziness and apathy from the players is what will hold this back, if anything.

so you're saying that if you were playing and at the end you'd have to collect 50K from BoostedJ, you'd have no problem with that?

Oh, I just picked Boosted randomly from people who I thought might be interested. It could have just as easily been Aba. Just saying that I wouldn't trust anyone to ship 50K voluntarily.

Edit:

Thinking of the $10k Sunday, not the $50k HSNL one.

I'm too busto right now to enter a satellite for that :-(

Given the way that the match is setup with no escalating blinds and how for the most part the 8 guys would all know and respect each other, it should be easy for them to just wait.

why not ask FTP Doug to set it up as a private tourney?

yeah, pretty bad post.

anyway, i would love to know what these 'many logistical problems' are. it is way easier to organise an 8x$50k tournament than a 64x$5k/32x$10k tourney.

I don't. But I thought it was an interesting idea and since I suggested it I decided to see if it could happen. But obviously without a concerted effort, it's not going to happen, so I'm trying hard to get it to happen now and if that doesn't work, I'll call it quits in a few days. I don't really care, and have nothing to gain, but I think it would be cool so I'm giving it my best shot.

just interested, if someone bet 1k 1:1 w/ u when would you say the tournament must be started by before u lose?

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

we could negotiate. my purpose is to bet on whether it will start in the near future. like as the results of my efforts going on now. so obviously not in a few months or whatever. but like if it starts within a month or something. gotta give me some time to work out logistics, etc. and, as of now i only have 3 people who have agreed to play and i need 5 more....

TWP,

durrr
aba
Booosted
jman

That's four right there who seem insta-ready to play the biggest of just about anything. Getting four more out of the 100/200+ regulars seems pretty easy.

So far, only one of those degens has committed, though. And they have had ample opportunity to do so.

8 people for $50,000

The loser of the quarterfinals ships $50,000

The loser of the semifinals the loser ships $100,000

The loser of the finals ships $100,000

1st = 300,000
2nd = 100,000

Does that sound easy enough?

TheWorstPlayer 07-05-2007 09:10 PM

Re: Ultra high stakes HU NL tourney

Kinda. If you trust everyone to ship 50K or 100K after they lose...

It's not like I'm having trouble with the math, guys. Would YOU be happy playing in a tournament under those conditions? I wouldn't be...

I'd take action against this if someone wouldn't have created a thread with the sole intention of getting a prop bet out of a sucker like me.
