Fashion Crazes

I saw today, for the first time I can remember, a guy actually sporting a Hitler moustache. Well you know what I mean. It got me thinking how the idea of Hitler is so awful, hge basically killed that particular moustache style.

Can you guys think of any other celebs/famous people that killed a look/fashion?

Do you remember any fashion crazes at school/growing up? What did you succumb to, and what was just a step too far for you?

picture and anecdotes please.

Haha, some guy is sporting a Hitler mustache over there? Wow.

Right off hand I can't think of a celebrity who killed a fashion.

Here's a fashion trend that's making a comeback and I wish it would go away. We used to dress like this when we were kids but really it's kind of funny on adults don't you think?

I wore Levi's Big Bells in high school. Cheezus, I cringe to even think it now.

That lasted about a week into college. Traded 'em in for 501's.

I keep a pair of those in my closet as my target pants I would like to wear again someday. Like after an extended bout of a wasting disease

When I was 10, I had big afro-like hair, brown bell-bottoms and a wool multicoloured tank-top. I was cool back then... But then the Fonz came on TV, thank God, and everyone realised what actually looked cool.

For dancers it's fine. I love leggings on dancers. But just to wear as a fashion trend I don't like it much.

At first I couldn't think of anybody. Then the Beatles came to my mind. Didn't they start a few fashion crazes?

John Lennon was a trend setter with his glasses. Even today everyone knows what is meant by "Lennon glasses"

I think we'd have a hard time convincing guys to wear the Beatle boot again. I know my guy wouldn't. I think they're pretty cool. Perhaps the British will bring them back. (DB, did you ever wear these?)

I've noticed a lot of girls are wearing those ballerina slippers in the past couple years.. I don't remember them being so popular before the last little while.. yay or nay on these?

Something I don't like that seems to be the craze are those uggs made popular by Britney Spears (among others).. like every girl on campus in the winter either had those or those ridculous boots with the fur on them.. it's usually tucked into the jean, I don't like those

I was going to post about these. I feel like throwing up every time I see them. And as you mentioned winter on campus is brutal as 90% of the girls are wearing them. At least some have enough sense to not tuck them into their jeans. Some people also wear these in warmer weather with skirts, ugh.

Bumping this.

I received this from a friend via email. This may bring back a few memories...

SUSPECT: JCP Catalog - A trip down memory lane

Spring and Summer catalog 1977

Some of these are hilarious, there is a reason some fashions should not be repeated....

http://img252.imageshack.us/img252/5268/42345e3xk8.jpg

A JC Penney catalog from 1977. It's not often blog fodder just falls in my lap, but holy hell this was two solid inches of it, right there for the taking. I thumbed through it quickly and found my next dining room set, which is apparently made by adding upholstery to old barrels:

http://img480.imageshack.us/img480/4287/42345f3mx9.jpg

Also, I am totally getting this for my bathroom:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/1929/4234602tb2.jpg

There's plenty more home furnishings where those came from, however I'm not going to bore you with that. Instead, I'm going to bore you with something else. The clothes.

The clothes are fantastic.

Here's how to get your butt kicked in elementary school:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/9813/4234612se0.jpg

Just look at that belt. It's like a boob-job for your pants. He probably needed help just to lift it into place. The belt loops have to be three inches long. And way to pull them up to your armpits, grandpa.

Here's how to get your butt kicked in high school:

http://img517.imageshack.us/img517/4871/4234622bu3.jpg

This kid looks like he's pretending to be David Soul, who is pretending to be a cop who is pretending to be a pimp that everyone knows is really an undercover cop. Who is pretending to be 15.

Here's how to get your butt kicked on the golf course:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/432/4234631pc7.jpg

This "all purpose jumpsuit" is, according to the description, equally appropriate for playing golf or simply relaxing around the house. Personally, I can't see wearing this unless you happen to be relaxing around your cell in D-block. Even then, the only reason you should put this thing on is because the warden made you, and as a one-piece, it's slightly more effective as a deterrent against ass-rapery.

Here's how to get your butt kicked pretty much anywhere:

http://img80.imageshack.us/img80/2318/4234641ai0.jpg

If you look at that picture quickly, it looks like Mr. Bob "No-pants" Saget has his hand in the other guy's pocket. In this case, he doesn't, although you can tell just by looking at them that it's happened - or if it hasn't happened it will. Oh yes. It will. As soon as he puts down his matching coffee cup.

Here's how to get your butt kicked at the beach:

http://img220.imageshack.us/img220/7858/4234651rg5.jpg

He looks like he's reaching for a gun, but you know it's probably just a bottle of suntan lotion in a holster.

How to get your butt kicked in a meeting:

http://img512.imageshack.us/img512/4513/4234660yh8.jpg

If you wear this suit and don't sell used cars for a living, I believe you can be fined and face serious repercussions, up to and including termination. Or imprisonment, in which case you'd be forced to wear that orange jumpsuit.

How to get your butt kicked on every day up to and including St. Patrick's Day:

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/5328/4234670kn7.jpg

Dear god in heaven, I don't believe that color exists in nature. There is NO excuse for wearing either of these ensembles unless you're working as a body guard for the Lucky Charms leprechaun.

In this next one, Your Search For VALUE Ends at Penneys.

http://img158.imageshack.us/img158/5927/423467fhv0.jpg

As does your search for chest hair.

And this -- Seriously. No words.

http://img150.imageshack.us/img150/745/423468fhe0.jpg

Oh wait, it turns out that there are words after all. Those words are What. The. H*** . I'm guessing the snap front gives you quick access to the chest hair. The little tie must be the pull tab.

Also, judging by the sheer amount of matching his/hers outfits, I'm guessing that in 1977 it was considered pretty stylish for couples to dress alike. These couples look happy, don't they?

http://img215.imageshack.us/img215/2603/423469fwe1.jpg

http://img204.imageshack.us/img204/2260/42346aeuv8.jpg

I am especially fond of this one, which I have entitled "Cowboy Chachi Loves You Best."

http://img64.imageshack.us/img64/3721/42346bevd3.jpg

And nothing showcases your everlasting love more than the commitment of matching bathing suits. That, and a blonde girl with a look on her face that says "I love the way your junk fights against that fabric."

http://img162.imageshack.us/img162/5255/42346cebr7.jpg

Then, after the lovin', you can relax in your one-piece matching terry cloth jumpsuits:

http://img210.imageshack.us/img210/6564/42346ddik9.jpg

I could go on, but I'm tired, and my eyes hurt from this trip back in time. I think it's the colors. That said, I will leave you with these tasteful little numbers:

http://img90.imageshack.us/img90/2231/42346edbf2.jpg

This was a really good bump Mrs. Utah. I sort of want to just use your post as a model for Halloween costumes for the next 10 years.

I think that The Lounge has done a good job of compiling pretty good "crazes" because most of these items of clothing look really absurd to my eyes. I really hate the "tux tee shirt" the most.
