What Have You Collected?

So what do you guys collect or what do you like to buy? Did you collect anything as a kid?

I'm not much of a collector but when I was a girl I used to collect stuff like this,

http://img223.imageshack.us/img223/4...erhorsehb2.jpg

I don't know anything about model horses. I just liked them and would always ask for one for my birthday. They used to be lined up on my book shelves. Anyway, that's the closest I got to owning a horse or taking riding lessons . (my parents were cheap)

Like I said, I'm not really a collector anymore and I'm not sentimental about much of anything.

Meanwhile, this is just the latest thing my bf has bought that he thinks he needs in his collection of stupid things. He has not one but two. (i'm guessing he was drunk when he made the purchase but who knows.) I'm not trying to knock anyone's collection of crap but seriously, what are we going to do, put these on and fight each other after work? Why would you need this?

http://img218.imageshack.us/img218/2...wopiecevd1.jpg

The only thing I can think of that I have a problem collecting now is clothing. I tend to get in a rut and buy the same item over and over. Are you like me where you have too much of one kind of clothing item, maybe stuff you wear too often that your family would like to see stop?

Going through my closet the other day, it was pointed out to me that I have a collection of short sleeve and sleeveless black shirts. Probably something like 20. BF thought it was ridiculous and I should throw some out. I've taken some pics so I will show you guys in a minute.

So is there something that you collect that your family members (or significant other) think is just stupid?

Re: What Have You Collected?

Not really, I never really got into long term collections of anything. I went through the baseball card and comic book phase as a kid, and thats about it. For a while I was collecting blunt wraps (the wrapper after it was used) and collected a pretty nice stack. I had a bunch of different flavors and it smelled really good. I havent added any to my collection in a couple years because I started using dutch masters. My friends who smoked thought it was cool, and other people who were not big into smoking thought I was weird.

so where's your blunt wrap stack now?

Also, do you have one type of shirt you wear too much?

Re: What Have You Collected?

When I was a kid I collected baseball and football cards. I still have a few that are worth some $$ in a safety deposit box. The others are, well I really don't know what happened to them.

As I got older I started collecting knives, fantasy swords/ knives and hot sauces. I know, I'm weird. I haven't added to the collection in the last year or two b/c I got lazy. I prob need to check into some of the stuff that's came out in that time.

As a kid I collected anything and everything Star Wars. That picture you posted of Darth Vader, I had that...it was a carrying case for all my action figures.

Now, as an adult, I collect fairies. Especially red headed ones. I was given one as a gift from my now ex-husband on the day after my gastric bypass surgery. Ever since then I started collecting them.

I have 6 black pokerstars shirts, I use them as rags to quickly wipe spilled drinks on my floor. I also use them to make ninja masks, when I feel like running around in the darkness hidden from everybody (when they are clean).

Re: What Have You Collected?

Cool topic.

I collect memories. I have had this same old box for the last 20+ years and I collect important memories in it by saving a little something from significant events. I have the usual items one would expect - pictures, ticket stubs, letters, etc. However, I have some unusual items - a Michael Jackson candy bar from a trip to Greece in 1991, a semi-adult magazine from a newsstand in Paris, the head scarf from a girl from a very special moment we shared, and a very bad bracelet I wore when going through a phase in college. There are also some super special things in there that I would never show anyone.

It is by far my most prized possession and if my place was burning it would be the one thing I would make sure I saved. Its loss would be unbearable.

I also used to collect guitar magazines and guitar books when I used to play many years ago. I probably have the sheet music for 10,000 or more songs and 1,000s of guitar lessons. The books and magazine fill a big closet.

Ok this is very interesting. So I'm curious what exactly is in that box of yours and how big is it? Do you ever read back through your old letters? Doesn't it make you sad? I collect Star Wars coins. No action figures or any of the other typical stuff, just coins.

I was going through some boxes of toys from when I was little , found a couple of them in the box, thought they were cool and got hooked. Built up most of the collection from 1998-2002. Pretty glad I did, as prices for the harder to find coins are now 2-3x what they were then.

I collected my belly button lint for 14 years. I took a job a couple of years ago that required me to bathe more regularly than I did in the past, which really put a crimp in my lint production, so I ceased collecting.

I have the jar in my safe deposit box. I'll try to get by the bank this week and take a picture.

Re: What Have You Collected?

I have a strong collecting and hoarding impulse the other day I couldn’t bring my self to throw out a new stack of monopoly money even though I don’t have a copy of the game.

As a kid I had a nice collection of star wars figures I ebayed the last of them away a few years ago.
In my youth I collected The Incredible Hulk comic and some other Marvel comics but the Hulk was my favorite I have a full run from its relaunch with issue 102 up to its relaunch as Hulk 1 some time in the early 2000. I hunted about at comic conventions and in shops filling the gaps in my collection over a period of years paying good money for crappy 1970s issues I knew would have poor art and awful plots and dialogs.
Concurrent with the comic collecting was my collecting of Games Workshop metal miniatures toy solders from a fantasy universe. I have two giant armies though I never played one game with them. Recently I looked into Ebaying them only to find they are worth more unpainted. I don’t want to sell them for less then they are worth but I don’t want to strip the paint off it just seems like I'm accepting that my artistic attempts devalue things like trying to sell a painting and finding buyers will pay more for the canvas.
I also have a SNES and a N64 and most of the best games for both of them though I drew the line at Japanese only RPGs oh and in a dark corner I have about a hundred issues of EDGE magazine not the gay life stile mag the Computer games one. I had a couple of hundred issues of White Dwarf Games Workshop related magazine which I didn’t want to throw out so put in the shed they of course got damp and eaten by snails and I ended up throwing them out I now see they are worth about £4 a pop see why I don’t like to throw stuff out?

[/ QUOTE ]The actual bar. here is a picture I just took of it. I wonder what the chocolate looks like inside after 17 years. This is the first time anything has been removed from the box other than to quickly look at it. It sounds silly, but these things are so important to me that when I brought the candy bar in the room to take a picture of it I held it with 2 hands and I set it on a towel for fear of damaging it. How weird is that

[ QUOTE ]
So I'm curious what exactly is in that box of yours and how big is it?

[/ QUOTE ]The box is an old box from a fairly large coffee maker. So, it isn't very big and it is overflowing but I can't bring myself to put it in a different box because the box itself is important. As to whats in it, it a complete mishmash of things. But, almost everything is small given the box is small and cant hold much. Also, since the box is small and given that it holds 20+ years of memories, only the most important ones make it in.

[ QUOTE ]

edit: now would probably be a good time to mention rehosting It is best if you rehost images with say imageshack rather then linking to the image directly.

Just go to imageshack, click the URL radio button and paste the link, then click host. At that point you can copy the 'direct link to image' URL and past that in the box that pops up when you click image (when creating a post) or you can just paste the 'hotlink for forums' link into your message.

ug, 2nd edit: ok, something isn't working with that lol -- sure fire method:

save the image to your computer. go to imageshack, click browse, find the pic, then click host and copy links as above.

Regret over never using them is one of the reasons I’m loath to get rid of them. They reside in the bottom two draws of a chest sitting in the corner of my parent house.

One last collection I forgot I inherited my grandmother’s collection of diecast formula one cars from the late 70 early 80s The thing is I can't remember her ever watching formula one.
