Your First Car?

In honor of my first REAL car being put to death tomorrow, what was your first car and what kind of quirks did yours have?

I sold my car to an auto recycler today - it will be stripped for parts, and as best as I can tell, smashed. I feel sad - am I a huge vagina or is this normal?

Anyway, first cars. Go!

1979 Chevy Luv pickup truck

150,000 miles, a working 8 track player, and 0-60mph in 32 seconds.

My parents still have it at their house. I drive it on occasion when I go home, just for good ole times sake.

Doesnt have the 8track player no more tho

When I turned 16 my dad gave me a jeep cherokee, fairly used but in good condition, he told me this was the only help Id ever get as far as cars/insurance/money etc and to take care of it, so I could wouldnt be SOL when trying to get a new car. It was a pretty good lesson I guess. One awesome thing about the car was that teh rear windshield wiper fluid dispenser was broken, and would shoot a nice 7 foot stream of washer fluid out the back of the car like james bond.

First car I drove was a 1982 Plymouth Horizon (Dodge Omni), it wasn't happy over 65, got great milage, and died when a guy hit it with a Honda Accord.

The first car I owned was a 91 Civic SI that had had the springs cut. Fun car to drive if you could tolerate the fact that you were going to put on a new muffle once a year as a given.

Way normal.

1979 Chevy Monza.

V6, but a very light car. I could actually burn rubber going into every gear but the top. Blew the head gasket and had to put her to sleep in something like '91.

A 1983 Pontiac J2000 piece of [censored] sedan. 120,000 miles, no cassette player (AM/FM radio only), no power anything (except for steering, thank god).

I miss her.

Re: Your First Car?

The first car I drove was an 82 Mercury Cougar - in 1998. The windows were power windows (I know), but the car was so old, you had to hold the power window button down and then push it down with your hand, too.

The cassette player sat in the middle console.

Then in 2000, I bought my first car, a 2000 Kia Sephia. Kia's sucked way worse then, but it lasted me until now. The transmission needs to be rebuilt ($2k) and the car already has 120,000 miles on it. Not even worth $2k.

Had a baseball bat propped to hold the driver seat up because I kept breaking the seat and it would lean way way back.

1984 Pontiac 6000. I loved it, it idled at around 26mph but it leaked oil like a bastard. The engine eventually seized, I was pretty bummed. If I'm ever loaded I'll buy one just to drive the beast around for kicks.

1990 Honda civic. Got it in 1999 from my aunt. It was my grandmas and she never drove it so it only had 30,000 miles on it. Pretty sweet. My sister has it now while I'm at school, but it still only has around 90,000 miles on it. It has gone downhill though, we now call it the shitic

1978 VW Dasher hatchback, gas engine, 4 spd manual in 1991. 78 hp, 0 - 60 in 13+ seconds, 1/4 mile in 19+.

(Not my pic, mine was dirt brown.)
http://www.photodump.com/direct/emai...y/Image004.jpg

At the time, it was the lowest value car listed in KBB. They obviously overvalued it as it was a complete money pit. Aftermarket AC that never really worked and it ate a radiator cooling fan fuse weekly (not by blowing it but by melting, yes melting, the fuse element on a 30A glass fuse). When the strut mounts rusted through the body I finally put it out to pasture.

Funny thing about it was that I was missing a hubcap set for one wheel (above pic has aftermarket wheels). I still saw some on the road and my friends swore we would find one to swipe and complete my set. I only saw one, once, with even a single hubcap and this specimen had FOUR! Too bad it circled the parking lot of the movie theater we were at and left, without parking.

A 1989 Buick LeSabre. It was my Mom's car, but she let me use it whenever she got home. I had the radio cranked and easily destroyed all four rims on curbs.

great car.

Exact same color as the one in the pic except mine had oxidation on the hood and roof so a large part of it was white. It was my older brother's, he gave it to me in 1997 as a highschool grad. gift. It was totaled 2 years later when another kid turned in front of me at a major intersection, I hit him doing about 55. The car bled all over the intersection, green, black, red, you name it.

1979 Chevy Luv pickup truck

That's funny. My dad had a Chevy Luv the whole time I was growing up. I'm not sure if it was a '79 or an '80. This thing had more problems than any car I've ever seen. I remember my dad telling me something about tie rods breaking or something and him tying them together. It spent the last few years of its life as a firewood transporting vehicle that never saw the road. The floor was all rusted out and you could have probably pedaled it like the Flintstones's car.

Inferno Red 1999 Dodge Stratus

I got in July of 2000, just a few months after graduating from high school. It had 23,000 miles on it at the time. Almost seven years later, it just went over 160,000. Still running strong.

Probably one of few cars with a 350 in it and a 0-60 of about 6 minutes.

Bought it from my dad when I was 16, it was a two tone dark blue/light blue and to this day I've never seen a truck with the same paint job.

1987 Cadillac Fleetwood Sedan. Leather interior, power everything. Created my first kid in that car, the digital display gave out at about 225k miles. both headlights were busted, and covered with clear plastic tarp, finally donated it to Courage Center in 2000, when the rear window shattered for no reason at all. I loved that car, and when I reach balla status, I will buy one just to have around, fun as hell to drive, the v8 in that thing still moved fast. I totaled some ladys civic from a dead stop at an intersection, light turned green I peeled out, and she ran the red, t-boned her, flipped her car over, and into the concrete barrier that stopped the car from falling about 50 ft onto the highway. That caused the 2 busted headlights that weren't worth replacing (like $400 a piece at the junkyard, apparently the 87 was the only year cadillac made headlights that way so they were pretty rare).

My first car was an orange '78 VW microbus that my HS physics teacher gave to me for free. My next one was a white '70 Westphalia (VW camper.) My parents bought that.

The first car I bought myself was an alpine white '76 911.
Should have never sold that one, I miss it.

OP,

1988 Chevy Cavalier.

http://www.alpinecom.net/phackmann/cars/cav2.gif

Mine was white with sweet dark limo tint.

When I bought a new car, I parked it in the street, planning to donate it to one of those tax writeoff places. Before I got around to it, a homeless guy made it his house. I felt bad about taking his house away, so I just left it there. A couple months later, the Nash Bridges TV show had it towed so they could instead put prop parked cars there. Bastards.
