can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

don't get me wrong... i totally appreciate all the good advice
that some posters share... and i've read every word on this
page:

http://www.pr0crast.com/2+2.NL.Anthology.v1.htm

and it's helped my game immensely...

but with all the inane replies like "STD", "obvious",
"delete this thread", "why did you post this?", "level",
"QFT", "quote: LOL", etc.... etc.... etc... and
the myriads of other worthless posts, i would be ashamed
to be called the "moderator" of those forums...

Did u learn anything? If so u just gotta take the good with the bad. If all someone is posting is "Std, obv, qft, lol" then it shouldnt take long for u to read the next post.

DUCY?

No, it doesn't... I'm just saying, if I was moderator,
( providing, of course, that the utility to do so is
convenient ), I would routinely delete these. )

( BTW -- Please explain "DUCY" )

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

U are not even referring to a specific thread, rather u are judging by a huge list. U are getting free information that u have admitted is helping your game and u want to complain about this?

Also, this is not the place to complain, and I wouldnt be surprised if this is moved or deleted.

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

ok, ok... not really complaining all that vociferously, honestly.
it's just frustrating for me and i was wondering if others thought
so too. maybe they don't.

oh... and specifically, most threads in BBV...

BigPoppa 09-14-2007 12:26 PM

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

BBV is not "poker".
It is BBV.

In strat forums, I will sometimes give a short QFT or likewise if someone else has explained the reasoning behind a play well already. It can make reading the threads easier, not harder.

If 5 people give different advice but one of those guys has 5 other people agreeing with him, it's easier to see what the consensus best move is than if 10 people all post their own advice.

Stands for "Do You See Why." A poster will state something. Then, instead of explaining it, ask "Do you see why?"

I like this thread and I think he raises a good point. For a lot of us these types of posts are so common that we don't even notice them anymore. But for people who are new to internet forums it must seem really strange.

Why do people feel a need to post QFT? That drives me nuts too and I don't even read strat forums. If I did it would be annoying as hell. I suppose I'd get used to it like everything else.

I've even caught myself wanting to type qft at times and then I stop myself and think why would I feel a need to type that?

Quickasaurus,
One thing that I've discovered about being a mod is that we let a lot of stuff go because it no longer bothers us because we've been on the forums so long. It's actually good to raise these issues now and then because sometimes mods just don't know what is annoying people.

The one I hate at the moment is the word "level". God, can we all just give that one a rest?

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

Katy - I disagree. When I pose question and I see 17 replies that say "QFT" it says something to me. It tells me that, given the information provided, these posters are all in agreement that would be the best play. I'd rather see that than have everyone silently agree, leaving me guessing if its only one poster's opinion or if everyone agrees. No need to type out a response if you completely agree with the above poster, and it gives credibility to the original response.

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

I see your point! I just got finished reading BigPoppa's post too and now I feel a little foolish. I guess in strat forums it would give a credibility to what the guy above posted if 10 other people came on afterwards and typed QFT. I was not using my head there.

lol.

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

. . . still . . . .

can't we just delete the posts that say things like "STD" after
someone gets his aces cracked by 27o?! if that isn't a troll
response, i don't know what is.

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

But back to OP's original statement,

"myriads of other worthless posts, i would be ashamed
to be called the "moderator" of those forums... "

keep in mind that moderators have come under fire before for over-moderating forums so sometimes we just let these simple posts like "LOL" "QFT" just go as they don't seem to harm anything. I see a lot of that stuff in OOT and ATF and my feeling is that some people just really enjoy chit chatting and most mods are pretty tolerant. I don't actually understand why people feel compelled to do it...like I said even I want to type that QFT thing sometimes .

Do you guys think that moderators on these forums should be a little more heavy handed? Is that a good thing?

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

I think it's too much to ask mods to waste their time deleting inane responses.
Inane topics, yes.
But inane responses are par for the course.

You are reading BBV and expecting responses to be non-trollish in nature? There's the problem. That's the culture there. Posts there aren't for serious discussions about poker. It's smack talk and silly fun.

If it matters what cracked your aces, shouldn't that type of thread be moved to BBV? In strat forums, no one cares if you got your aces cracked.

Re: can i complain here about the \"poker\" threads???

If you are having a conversation with a group of people it is easy to see who is agreeing with you and who isn't. In a linear internet conversation you can't, so when people chime in with short pointless responses it is not only reinforcing the opinion of who they are responding to, it allows them to make their presence known to the group.

I also like to use stuff like this:
