The Waiting Is Over....NYR in the Playoffs!

FINALLY!

It's been a long time since the 1996-1997 season, especially for a Ranger fan (being a Mets & Jets fan also doesn't help). This is a team that all the so called "experts" picked to finish at the bottom of the East (although the consensus at the time around these boards was that prediction was a joke, much like Darcy Tucker).

I can't believe I'm going to say this...but Glen Sather deserves alot of credit. He had a Marlins-esque firesale pre-strike and collected a bunch of draft picks. He smartly built the team around the league's best player, Jagr, by adding practically half the Czech national team. And then on top of that he brought in a coach who actually knows how to coach.

Going into the playoffs with Jagr & Company and having Lundqvist as the backstop excites me. Locking up the division and getting home-ice will be the key to any Rangers playoff run.

I'm not delusional, I'm not expecting a Stanley Cup (although that would be nice). The Rangers are a little bit banged up right now. The power play has done diddly-do lately and their record against the other 7 teams likely to make the playoffs isn't spectacular (15-12-6). But I'm still excited.

So...

Lets Go Rangers!

P.S.

Potvin Sucks!

I don't think Sather has much to do with the daily operation of the franchise anymore - I think Maloney is running things back there.

Rangers could be one and done if they face New Jersey, who matches up against them very well. If they get Montreal or Tampa Bay I think they will advance. Same with Buffalo, who is falling apart in the later half of the season.

This may very well be the case. Although I don't think anyone knows for sure.

If I had to pick one of these teams I'd rather the Rangers not face in round 1, I think I would also pick the Devils (even though the Rangers have had alot of success against them so far this year). Montreal with as hot as they have been lately is a close second.

GL in the East. We'll be waiting in the Cup Finals.

An original 6 Stanley Cup Finals matchup would be pretty cool actually, as long as the Rangers won of course.

Hopefully they'll play like the pre-Olympic break Rangers, and not the team on the ice over the past month.

Montreal's hot but I just don't think they're that great. Huet has been on fire but this guy has some Ceckmanek moments too. Tampa Bay would be an ideal matchup for the Rangers - they're backing into the playoffs and have no goaltending and a lackluster defense.

Montreal has a decent team but there's nothing about them that makes you think, 'oh [censored], I don't want to face their offense/defense/goaltending'.

red wings have had a good season... but it does help having the Blues, Bluejackets and Blackhawks in the same division.

Wow you get a lucky season after being a total disgrace for ten seasons and everyone thinks they've won the cup. Everyone will shutup in a few weeks when they get ousted in the first or second round. LETS GO ISLANDERS!

That would be great, but don't overestimate the chance of the Rangers. If you watched the game the other night, you would know that the Rangers have no chance in a series against Ottawa. With Ottawa, Carolina and Bufflo in the way, there is no chance the Rangers make the cup. Jagr has had a fantastic season, but I'm sorry, the team just isn't a cup contender.

If you read my original post then you would know that I'm in no way saying the Rangers will get out of the East and beat the Senators or Hurricanes.

Buffalo isn't a good team right now. If they can find their way before the playoffs start they will also be a team to reckon with. And of course you can't count out the Flyers and Gagne/Forsberg or the Devils and Brodeur.

No matter what, the playoffs this year are going to be really good.

If you call the Rangers season this year, "lucky" then you are a complete and total idiot and obviously have not watched a single hockey game or even highlight all season.

And who thinks they "won the cup"? Your reading comprehension sucks and don't be jealous that your team is run almost as poorly as the Knicks.

Obviously they didn't get lucky every game this year. They have a solid team. They just got lucky that they were able to gamble on Jagr and have it pay off.

After putting together some of the worst teams of the past ten years, they finally got lucky and put together a solid team. No big deal in a league where over half the teams get in the playoffs.

It is very likely that the 2006 NYU College of Arts and Science Baccalaureate will be held in the Arena at Madison Square Garden. Only once local sports teams release their holds on the Arena can that space be reserved for the College's Ceremony. In the event that the Arena is not available, the Baccalaureate will be held at the Theater at Madison Square Garden (same address). Each student will be able to order a maximum of two guest tickets online, not including the student's own ticket. If the College is able to reserve the Arena, each student who ordered tickets online will be able to pick up a maximum of six guest tickets. It will not be necessary to change the already-placed order; students can simply pick up six tickets during the scheduled ticket pick-up times. If the Ceremony is in the Theater, only two tickets will be given to each graduate, with no exceptions made (space is VERY tight in the Theater).

[/ QUOTE ]

I'm hoping for a early first round exit so I can graduate in the arena.

Re: The Waiting Is Over....NYR in the Playoffs!

If you want to pick on the Rangers for being lucky, you should start with Henrik Lundqvist. Even if Jagr plays like the Washington Jagr, a eunuch with skates, he's still scoring 80-90 points this season. The Rangers are still probably a playoff team. However, to pick up a top 5 goalie for free - that is luck. And I won't hear anything about scouting or any of that BS - picking superstars in the later rounds is basically luck.

They didn't just squeak into the playoffs. They are currectly 3 points ahead of the flyers for the Atlantic Division LEAD and 25 points ahead of your Islanders. Also a 3 seed in the playoffs. That's hardly just making the playoffs after being picked to finish 30th by a number of media organizations including SI.

All Ranger fans should thank the lockout for their season this year. Creating a salary cap allowed for their upper management to wake up and stop widly spending. The salary cap saved the team.
