Re: rounders
He doesn't have either ban or lock powers in this situation.
Mods are physically incapable of locking or moving threads in forums that aren't theirs. Mods do have the power to ban but aren't supposed to do it outside of their own forum except for obvious spamming or something like that. For the most part, the mods are just like any other poster when not in their own forum. |
Re: rounders
I think this is a valid question. Answer is: plenty.

Re: rounders
Everyone does have the power to hit the notify mod button, which wasn't done.

Re: rounders
If you want to give this thread some new life, you might consider this question:
Knowing everything we know today, which of these had more of a positive influence on the game of poker as we know it today (either live or online): a) Rounders b) Moneymaker (I say "knowing everything we know today", because if the quesiton was "at the time they happened, which had a greater effect...", I think it's Moneymaker's win in a cakewalk. But looking back on everything in the aggregate, it's hard not to agree that Rounders had a huge effect as well.) |

Re: rounders
this is a nice observation, captain obvious.
considering moneymaker and hachem referenced the movie in talking about getting into poker. on a totally unrelated note: how many drum majors did the move drumline create? |

Re: rounders
How is it that a box office bomb that almost no one saw gets credited with the poker boom? If it hadn't been made Moneymaker and Hachem would have referenced The Cincinnati Kid or California Split. Not saying Rounders wasn't the best poker movie ever, but come on, its a cult flick.
Nice post fake Malmouth. |
Re: rounders
I hear that Rounders is what got Johnny Chan interested in poker.

Re: rounders
If I may quote Mike "the mouth" : "god bless Chris Moneymaker".
IMO he's right - Imagine Sammy winning their heads-up match? I dare say none of us would be here today (and by "here" I mean this forum...) |

[/ QUOTE ] I didn't say that poker did not exist before Moneymaker - obviously he won his sit at an online site, which had to cater to a need. BUT, the sheer growth of the poker world, and the internet poker in specific can, and should, be attributed to CM. |
Re: rounders
Rounders is to Poker what Necessary Roughness is to Football.
|
Re: rounders
Rounders was a big influence because it was released while online poker was growing. It became a cult hit in the same way Office Space did.
In between Rounders and CM, the table hole cam really kicked poker into high gear. Without it, poker would have continued to be popular, but wouldn't have exploded. Remember the old WSOP broadcasts with Dick Van Patten? Brutal to watch unless you turn the volume off. People whonever played poker in their life could figure out what hole cards players had better than him. You could lose years of poker training in an evening listening to him (well, the wpt too). The poker boom was a perfect storm of Rounders, Table Cam, Online poker and CM. |
Re: rounders
I didn't think Rounders was that great. It didn't make me want to play poker. Then again, I'm not a 20-something yuppy that's looking for a role model. 20-something poker players make me vomit.

Re: rounders
for brits/ euros id say would be late night poker televised in the late 90s on channel 4 in the uk, not money maker or rounders. i watched this and didnt start playing poker until 2005
