sweet angle
guy checks AT5 flop after limp-calling a raise (in a tourney).
villain asks for chip count, dude spreads out his chips, across the commitment line, announcing 4,500 left. (dude has TT) |
Re: sweet angle
What room? more details please.

Re: sweet angle
whats the angle?
|
Re: sweet angle
he's betting but it looks inadvertent - he's pretending it's just a count
Therefore when the dealer says "the bet is 4500" he can throw a hissy about betting to try to look weak. |

Re: sweet angle
MrX with the TT checks?
Opponent asks for chip count? MrX counts his chips over the "line"? That it? It is not MrX's turn. How can it be construed as a bet? |

[/ QUOTE ] Remember, this isn't Vegas, and that the line on the felt is a true commitment line. Therefore, even action out of turn (such as mucking, or more commonly betting out of turn) usually stands. I say usually, cause this is poker after all, not an exact science... Now, in this instance the player was def. doing it on purpose, but the dealer was none too sharp and didn't mention anything, one way or another. |

Re: sweet angle
first that is an absurd rule even if your not in vegas.
I wouldn't play in a room like this because I would have to assume the rest of the rules are equally absurd. |

[/ QUOTE ] If you thought the muck was magic, you should see the magic line in rooms that enforce the "magic line" rule. God forbid you try to cut chips over the line (if its in your hand, you bet it (and the corollary - if you are trying to raise in a limit game and are 1 chip short in your hand, its a call)) or a chip rolls away from you (chips across the line aren't coming back unless you win the pot). Thankfully I'm seeing a lot less of the magic line weirdness in nor. Cal. It used to be really bad, at least now crap like what is in the OP would no longer work in any room that I can think of around here. It would have worked in three or four two years ago. |

Makes me glad I only started playing in B&Ms fequently in the last couple years.

(dude has TT) [/ QUOTE ] This angle is sweet until dude runs into AA or some other nut hand. After seeing this, I'd ask him for a count every time I had the nuts. Just in case he wanted to stack off. |
Re: sweet angle
I do this all the time, particularly if I want the dealer to count my chips for me (so that I don't give something off). No one's ever forced me to bet my chips when I've done this; can they?

This whole thing is silly. |
Re: sweet angle
I heard almost exactly this story told about Farha. During a cash game the action was on his opponent and Sammy asked "how much do you have?" Guy counts and says "$9000" (or whatever) and Sammy says "I CALL! Verbal is binding and he said 9000." The story claims the floor upheld it.
Always sounded completely bogus to me so I never gave it any credence. |
