Frank TV
I've been a fan of Frank Caliendo's since his days on Mad TV and I think he is the best / funniest impressionest ever, so I'm glad he finally got his own show.
I watched the premiere yesterday and I thought it was pretty good stuff like I expected. His Seinfeld skit was amazing. It's crazy how accurate his impressions are, and it's even crazier how many people he can do. If you aren't very familliar with him, this clip of his standup will set you straight. |
Re: Frank TV
Just watched the Seinfeld clip... the impressions are good, but I didn't laugh once. Never been tempted to watch his show.

Re: Frank TV
I thought this show would be horrible because it's on TBS, but I was pleasantly surprised. I would rate it a 6/10, and I'll probably watch another one if I stumble upon it. I don't really think he's that funny, I'm just very impressed by the number of impressions he can do and how accurate they are. I agree that the Seinfeld skit was spot on all around. Not only are his voice impressions more accurate than any I've ever heard, his mannerisms are almost as good.
The only thing I wish he wouldn't do is have those stupid interactions with the audience, they just aren't funny. |
Re: Frank TV
I made it a point not to watch the show because there were fifty-three million commercials for it during the baseball playoffs and they pissed me off.
But I will admit I LOL'd at his George W. Bush impressions in this spot, even though Dubya-is-dumb is so hackneyed. |
Re: Frank TV
Im a huge fan of his days on madTV and had high expectations for this show cuz he was always so funny. This show really did not deliver compared to how funny this guy usually is. I was dissapointed . Hopefully the newer ones will be better, if not this is def. getting canceled.

Re: Frank TV
That Seinfeld sketch was god awful.

Re: Frank TV
The show was better than I thought. The Seinfled sketch was pretty good, and I thought the Madden stuff was the worst. Clinton library was pretty good as well.
He might need a guest star each week though. |

[/ QUOTE ] what he said. i smirked once or twice during the 30 min show. never laughed. i equate impressions alone being funny to a baby being amazed by an ol' fashioned game of peek-a-boo...i mean come on. then my friend sends me a link to a nyt article about how well it did in the ratings and i started to cry. gobble gobble. |
Re: Frank TV
I gave it 10 minutes of my time, then turned it off. It should survive no more than 6 episodes but it will probably last 3 seasons. Its horrible. I knew it was a mega-dud within the first 2 minutes as he was giving his monologue, this TV moment was right up there with the first episode of Chevy Chase's show where he choked live on the air.

Re: Frank TV
Don't understand the hate tbh. His impressions aren't always hysterical but part of what makes them so amusing is how accurate they are, and the jokes are decent but are 5x funnier since he is doing an impression. The opening show was a little weaker than I expected but not bad at all.

Re: Frank TV
impressions just aren't that funny tbh.
They are good but they aren't funny |
Re: Frank TV
Bill Clinton sketch made me laugh. I thought that was very funny actually.
The rest of the acts were just meh, though. |

Re: Frank TV
If they could find someone to write funny sketches the show would be very good. But the material is just so weak the impressions can't make up for it.

Re: Frank TV
impressions are part of the appeal folks. you are supposed to be amused by his uncanny ability. i have watched tons of youtube crap of his just because it is incredible, of course not all of it is drop dead funny.

Re: Frank TV
I really like his Madden impression. The rest is meh.
|
Re: Frank TV
def needs better writing to make it good
|
Re: Frank TV
show sucks teh big one ... knockoff of dave chapelle show and it will sink after 2 seasons. True story.

Re: Frank TV
Anyone who watched the MLB playoffs grew to have a pretty hefty hate for this show and as such I think their promotional plan backfired.
I'm not surprised it sucked. If it were a video game I would try to take it back to the store and get a full refund so I could buy a better show. |
Re: Frank TV
meh I thought it was pretty solid, could def use some improvement and I could see it getting old quick but Madden and Clinton stuff was very good imo
|
Re: Frank TV
I've seen his standup before and think it's awesome.
Just saw the Seinfeld skit and it was kind of funny with the impressions, obviously not hilarious material but come on, the "absolutely terrible" hate seems undeserved. |
Re: Frank TV
His stand-up special was way better than this, maybe more because of the unpredictability of it. Hope he puts on a one-man Robin Williams Wizard of Oz on the show, that'll be great.

[/ QUOTE ] seriously, people make up their mind before time that its going to be terrible. Some because there was too many commercials for it lol. The show could get old pretty fast but his impersonations are extremely impressive. |
Re: Frank TV
I have always thought that impersonations are just gimmicky, one step up from prop comedy. Although he is definetly talented, and I laughed pretty hard when I saw him do his Charles Barkley impersonation.(http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=liYfDOCOB6o) But I still don't have much interest in seeing a show that main crux is impersonations even if they are done well.

Re: Frank TV
I thought it was mildly funny but it will only last four episodes due to the writers strike.
