Moving to Vegas
 

So a lot you guys know already, but I'll be moving to Vegas to pursue a lifestyle of full-time debauchery (and to play online poker). I previously lived in Washington state, and the new law banning online poker here made it clear that if I wanted to continue playing a ton, I'd have to move out of state, or I'd be committing a class C felony!!!!! Honestly, the law also coincided with plans I was already hatching, so the move comes at a perfect time.

Anyway, I already made a trip last week and signed a lease on a random 2bedroom/2bath apt somewhere on the end of Decatur (yeah I suck at locations and names). It's apparently about a 10 minute drive from the strip. I expect to be spending a fair amount of my time just grinding online, but also will be attending and traveling to some live events/games (notably the Empire State Championships and a couple WPT events, and whatever other medium to large buyin 18+ live events I can find) as time permits. And of course, live games whenever possible [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img]

What suggestions do you guys have for easing the transition of moving into Vegas? I know a ton of you live there, so any pointers/hints would be awesome. If you'd like to talk/meet up I'm psither101 on AIM.

I wasnt aware that there was a law in Washington State banning online poker...could you elaborate a little on that

I cant help but look at any post you write without thinking Psy Eye Eye in a high pitched weird voice. There's not much to it, really. Mostly car stuff. Change your insurance (it WILL go up, I lived in L.A. and it went up [img]/images/graemlins/mad.gif[/img]) get it smogged, get it registered, change the title to Nevada if you want (this is optional). Have it sink in that it gets very very very hot here.

It sounds like you are under 21 which kinda sucks as far as getting out and about and playing in casinos.

Advice on easing the transition:

All I can say is make a lot of friends. People in Vegas are really, really flakey and fickle. You need to know twice as many people here as anywhere else to get half as much done.

Also, you might be surprised by how uneducated the average person is here, particularly if you're coming from Washington. Just a warning.

Yeah, and car insurance is really high.

I just moved to Vegas, its unbelievable. A little hot right now, but a lot better than I was expecting. Get a place close to the strip, I live in the Vegas Country Club which is the nuts.

I checked out the poker legislation forum and couldn't find a list of the states where things have changed.

Does anyone have a link for more specifics? Is WA the only state where it has become a felony? Perhaps it is time to move out of the country instead of back to Vegas.

Since OP has already leased an apartment, it probably doesn't matter, but car insurance doesn't necessarily go up when you change states, just zip codes.

When I moved to L.A. from Dallas, I had heard the horror stories and expected mine to triple. It actually went down instead. The insurance agent said I picked exactly the right zip code. Two miles away and it would have tripled.

Always check with your insurance agent before you move, not after.

Apparently in Washington state:

online poker = child pornography

Exact same felony class.
