Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
My roll is at $1500, and Ive been playing .5/1 for the last 20 days or so..Have made 11 buyins in about 3000 hands..playing 20/13/2
I played as high as 2/4NL a couple years and did well, but lost touch with poker for a while...Turns out the game grew and the players got a lot better, so I started over at .25/.50 I only play one-table..Though it may be less $/hour over the long run it does help my variance and my quality of play, which I feel is easier on my mind.. Is it a bad idea to move up? |
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
moving up to 1/2 would give you a 7.5 buyin roll. waaaay too small. wait till 3k then take a shot.

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
As someone who ran through the stakes with very low buyins, yes it is a bad idea to move up. Your BR simply cannot handle the variance at 200nl, which is so much more aggro than 100nl.

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
Not to mention you are running hot at 100nl, you are not going to maintain that win rate in the long run.

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
All probably true.
Ok. $3000 optimal? |
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
I'd say $4k at least. If you do $3k, you should be ready to drop down at $2.5k IMO.

Is that something I should really think about or just play the way im comfortable? I feel like I think out things a bit longer than most..Not necessarily a bad thing, I feel like i make better decisions because of it... Have also never really done well trying more than 1 table, but should I give it another try? |
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
If you aren't comfortable with multi-tabling, and you want to try, go slowly. Play 2 tables first. Then 3, etc. And it would probably help to play a level lower than you normally do when you're first trying to adjust to a higher table number.

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
NO, your gonna feel sick in your stomach to lose 1/3 of your roll. so id suggest starting at 5-6k.
|
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
solution: start 2-tabling 100NL. you probably woulda just 1-tabled 200NL anyway, so stay down where you are and practice multi-tabling while getting the same amount of action. yeah?

Sounds like a good next-step before moving up. I will try it out considering Im not too loose a player.. Any more advice about multitabling? I do have PT, pretty much live and die by it? |
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
Use PAHUD unless you have a fast computer and 2 monitors. the more tables you get, you can't just maximize PT and check out a players stats and then think about how they affect a certain situation.

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?

Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
with practice you will be able to 3-4 table as well as you presently 1 table.
you bankroll strategy should reflect how much the money means to you and whether you can easily refill it if you lose i am playing professionally atm so i cannot afford to take such risky shots as you are. if you can replenish the money and wouldn't be crushed if you went broke then try to have at least 20 BI's for your level |
Re: Want to move up stakes, bad idea?
play 8 tables at micro stakes, when you are used to it move back up.
