***September Low-Content Thread***
Good start towards my 25th straight profitable month...
All was NLO8 except for the PL$1000 stack lost to Gameover http://i228.photobucket.com/albums/e...r006/sept1.jpg |
Tough competition in the SNGs...
You would think moving up to the $55+$5 turbos would lead to better play. Luckily, not so much...
The second hand of the game: $55+$5 Omaha Hi/Lo Pot Limit - Level I (10/20) Preflop: UTG folds, UTG+1 raises 50 to 70, 2 folds, Hero raises 170 to 240, CO folds, Button calls, 2 folds, UTG+1 raises to 750 to 990, Hero raises 510 to 1500, Button calls, UTG+1 calls. Nice one Pred, I've had 3 losing months in 2 years, the last one was a disaster, 5 figures. Luckily I had my 2 best ever months prior to it and here's hoping the coming one will be good for us!

Does gameover post on here btw? [/ QUOTE ] seems pretty clear to me that no mid to high stakes plo8 players ever post, because if they did it would obviously be anonymously. gameover is too busy perfecting his PLO8$5K heads up matches to post on forums |

[/ QUOTE ] Yeah I'm not sure if I get that shortstacking and ratholing in higher stakes NLO8...That just doesn't seem like a long-term viable strategy to beat the game...It isn't like hold 'em where you are going to be an OVERWHELMING favorite when the money goes in...I mean since you shortstack it's probably not a stress on the bankroll, but it seems like its a high variance, low EV way to play the game...Yeah you'll have your days where you win a ton of money, hold your 60:40 edges for full pots, hold your 55:45 for whole pots, but that has to eventually even out...Seems like too much flux on the bankroll for very limited EV... |
Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
But it works for him over time. It does seem like a high variance grind to me though.

Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
90% of winnings were from shortstacking / ratholing NLO8.
Station...How many tables deep do you usually mine? I typically open 4 at a time, and when I double up I add the next one. Sometimes into the 8th table of NL1K pretty regularly. 3k from 25/50 too if you dont mine those. And O8...it is high variance, but not low EV is way off. And Dave...you know I have a horseshoe up my azz. After I posted the graph, I did end up winning 1800 on NL10k vs Matusow and Lindgren. The best part about it was after I pushed 3x in a row, Matusow asked ME..."are YOU on crack?" HAHA |

[/ QUOTE ] I havent been 100% on getting games 10/20 and bigger, I have that fixed now and should have it covered moving forward, also if you happened to go over 12 tables deep at a given level, it would cutoff there also but I can fix that if it becomes a bigger issue Good work though as I must say from your graph, pretty impressive |
Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
Station - serious question for you.
I'm assuming the main reason for your datamining is to keep your HUD stats accurate. Do those stats have a big impact on your bigger PLO8 playing decisions? Are they ever misleading? Also... what kind of wins/losses are you seeing on player "Scimmietta" or whatever recently. I've spotted him playing monster stakes like $25/$50 NLO8 (heads-up) recently. |
Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
Dave - Right now I dont have any good stats for anything 10/20 and higher, mainly as I was lazy and didnt watch those tables all of the time
As far as why I datamine them - Part is so that I do have stats on HUD for when I do play (its just a part time thing for me) and the other is interest in how much other people are beating the game for. I can say the stats dont matter a lot when I am playing, I mainly use it for game selection and also look out for really passive call station type players as most players anymore are pretty agressive so I just look for them to make sure I dont try to bet them out of a pot when there is 0% chance of them folding. The main reason I dont rely on stats, is that they can be misleading. Most of the losers play a few 100 hands and donate and vanish to never be seen again, over a few 100 hands, you really cant get a good picture of someone, how their stats line up could also be a function of the games they were playing in also. I think won$ at showdown can be an interesting stat but also lacks a lot of value on small sample sizes. For this reason I mainly use stats for game selection mainly to watch VPIP and PFR %s although I can say you can find some games with some regulars that play tight but lose so that isnt always the best method either. |
Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
Also one addition:
I think a PA HUD with stats like people who call off or play for half would be much more interesting. For this reason I think any notes you make while playing with a person will matter a lot more. If I was doing this full time and had a lot of time to go through HHs in PTO, I would look at certain opponents I play against all of the time and see where they lose the most money and look for patterns in those hands. I still think any live observations you make will matter a lot more than any PTO stats can provide (unless we start to get stats like calling off on low, CR all in every time they have sets or flush draws, etc... I know a few people that rely on HUD a lot for holdem but I dont think the same method can be applied to H/L as there are more variables to contend with |

Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
Wow that second hand is sick.
If it makes you feel better, in the last 6 weeks: -$7,000 in LO8 -$7,000 in PLO +$5,000 in NLHE That's about as ass backwards as it gets for me. I'm totally snakebit in LO8. I probably played 4,000 hands online and about 50 hours live (LO8) and it's the coldest stretch i've ever had. |

Re: ***September Low-Content Thread***
ICE_NY is pretty amazing, im glad he can keep his VPIP at 50%+ over 10k plus hands, takes real dedication to do that, most dont have that

+$3k this month playing 2/4 - 5/10 NL/PLO8. I'm so bad at bank roll management and bad @ poker. I ran hot, lost some of it back and locked myself out of poker for the next 30 days. Sorry I am not out there to donate to you all.

locked myself out of poker for the next 30 days. [/ QUOTE ] I wish I had that sort of self control. I had an awful day at $2/$4 through $5/$10 PLO8/NLO8 yesterday and experienced my worst tilt yet. Naturally I moved up to $25/$50 PLO8 and $75/$150 LO8 to try to chase losses. Lucky not to be bankrupt today. On the other hand, I've been logging in a decent number of hands at $10/$20 and $15/$30 LO8 (full-ring) online and doing extremely well. I will be playing much more of that in the near future. spotted Fat_Nutz (wintermute) on Stars yesterday, and he was taking down a good number of pots. seems like he might have enough of an online bankroll to make a run at the games again. i like watching him play, but don't especially like playing against him. |
