my first craigslist experience

alright so I'm trying to unload my 42" plasma on craigslist, since my gf said it was easy and there are stupid people who overpay for things. I listed it for 1075 hoping to get it at or around that price, and I get this email.

You're wayyyyyy off on this price. You can buy a new one for $699 or thereabouts on any given Sunday now!

How's $250 sound?

I lol, then reply with

this retailed for 2k and is in like new condition. It isn't a 699 plasma and ive never seen one for that low. I won't be selling for any less than 900 sorry.

he counters back with

Purdue? Are they teaching you how to be stuck on stupid there? Boy, that TV (no matter what it sold for new) is a $699.00 plasma NEW at Circuit City today! Look at the black friday ads tomorrow. You'll see. You are not going to sell it for $900, either. Look what $900 will buy, with two-year warranties! For crying out loud, man, take the $250 and buy a brain.

Ok, so I was just going to send him back something to the tune of "go fk yourself" etc., but now I'm thinking of giving him an address and sending him to the ghetto to try to get a tv that isn't there. solid play?

Why cause he is right?

Good timing on selling your tv imo.

Re: my first craigslist experience

I like your idea to prank him even if he's mostly right just cause he's being a dick. You should sell for at least $350 though.

lol symmetric insults

if I were him, I'd be the douchebag. yep pretty much if x=y then y=x solid

Anything less than like 800 is meaningless to me, so I'll probably end up giving it to my brother.

I sent the guy an address and a "final offer" of 350. this should be good.

So you can sell more than just drugs and sex on Criagslist?

Re: my first craigslist experience

lol @ your girlfriend. Everyone who shops on craigslist is cheap. 90% of the replies you get will be either people offering you way less or people asking if it is still for sale or something stupid followed by never hearing from them again.

Re: my first craigslist experience

craigslist is good if you need to move things fast and are willing to sell cheap. if youre a nit who wants to eek out every last penny, dont bother

do you honestly think anyone is going to pay $900 for a used 42" tv though? I can get a 1080p 42" for less than that at every Walmart in America. When did it retail for 2k? A year ago? This is like me trying to sell my year old computer for 50% of what I paid for it, which it probably isn't worth.

Re: my first craigslist experience

Craigslist is [censored], I was selling a nice office chair for 15$ just to get rid of it, I had put up like 3 pictures of the chair and So many people kept writing to me asking if they could come see it. I was like WTF who comes to see a chair that is 15$. Either you need it or don't. So anyways I let this girl come see it, she is like I like it ill come back with my BF to see it. Its not a car or an apartment. Jeez its a chair. Obv they come back BF finds something wrong and tries to lowball me for like 10$ instead of 15$. I told him to leave. I have never posted [censored] on that ghetto site again.

Re: my first craigslist experience

I think your girlfriend is off base here. CL Buyers tend to know the new-product price for the item they're seeking; they're only shopping on CL because they want to save off the new price. I think the key opportunity for CL arbitrage comes from uninformed sellers, not uninformed buyers; occasionally, all a seller knows is that they don't want the thing they have anymore.

I wanted to go see Lewis Black at the Borgata this August. The show was sold out and tickets were selling through agents at 2x face value or more. I picked up four on CL at face value, resold two over EBay at 1.9x face value, and kept two for personal use at almost no net cost.

So, OP, clearly what you should be doing is buying this TV over CL, not selling it.

Re: my first craigslist experience

Your way to high on the price but I would not sell it for $250 either. Alot of it depends on the brand though, as to what it would be worth.

To the guy who said you could buy a 1080p 42" for less than $900 at WalMart, no you can't. They have a Vizio 42" 720p for $900, which is the closest.

so lower the price? That's usually what people do if they really want to sell something.

I'm already selling a $3100 car for $2700, I mean sure I can lower the price but this is [censored] ridiculous.

I thought this was going to be about you picking up a hooker on Craigslist.

Since I'm disappointed, could you sell your TV for the $250, then use that $250 to pick up a hooker on Craigslist and then report back to us?

Would be better!

wait.. a 93 accord for 3100? HAHAHAH I didn't read the yaer at first. I bought a 93 twin turbo stealth last year for a little more than that.. come on.

So is the Kelley Blue Book inaccurate? I assumed it was a fairly good measure of what a car is worth. It says $3,100 for my car in "good" (not even "excellent") condition.

kbb what.. retail? private sale? I wouldn't pay that much for a 93 accord. Off the top of my head I'd say 2200 or so. It's almost 15 yrs old after all.
