I have been working at the Beer store for about 7 months (I don't know anything about corporate decisions, but am pretty well schooled on everything else).

Not that I know of. they are pretty strict about carding people (send in mystery shoppers all the time). Plus, the policy is that we ID anyone that looks under 25. After being there for a few days I got pretty good at scoping out minors, and fake ID.

Not sure if this falls under "corporate decisions," but how do you guys decide what new beers to carry? Have you ever stopped carrying a particular brand? Do customers ever walk in and give reccomendations of new beers to carry, and if so, do you guys ever follow those recs?

I used to drink only Canadian, but I have dabbled in other beers of late. I have become a big fan of Creemore Springs, and somehow picked up a taste for Stella Artois.

We carry both of the beers I mentioned. I wanna try Le Fins Du Monde, but we haven't had it in stock for weeks.

I browsed the Beer club to see what's out there, but I'm not really a connoisseur. Basically if we don't carry it, I don't know it.

We are known for our creativity in Canada. Our liquor store is called LCBO (Liquor control board of Ontario).

Since we are owned by the big 3 breweries (Molson, Labatt, and Sleeman), I would assume that we only carry brands that are in some kind of demand.

Beers get added/pulled all the time, in addition to packaging configurations (e.g. eliminate 6 packs, but can still buy a 12).

We don't really have a process for following recommendations. I assume there is an official procedure, but I have not heard anything about it, and since it's more work for me I don't want to bring it up.

If you count the "I left in my car", and then they leave, I would say 10 - 15. They also tend to come in at certain times (after 9, weekends), and buy certain things (single cans, 40s).

Yes, but the stores look entirely different now. (Refer to the link I provided earlier and you will see the new look). I personally preferred the old school order the beer and it comes down the chute stores as opposed to the self serve stores.

What percent of the people who come in do you consider "regulars"? How many people do you know by name? Do you get to take cases of beer home that have been damaged?

About 50% are 'regulars'. I know about 50 customers by name, and the rest I know by the beer they order (I make the call when they are walking up).

Under no circumstance are we to take any beer home (unless we buy it of course). Once in a while Sleeman will throw us a free 6 pack.

I drink a lot more than I used to. I now believe in "Out of sight, out of mind".

about 98% (estimate, not a stat) of our customers are male, and I work in a pretty high end neighborhood, I have never had a drunk chick walk in. The few girls that do come in are pretty hot, but I have a girlfriend, so I sell them their beer and tell them to have a good night.

No. We just tell them we can't sell to them and that's the end of it. To be honest, I was a little surprised by that when I started working there. By not calling the cops we are pretty much giving the punks free shots. The same guy came in twice in one night when there was a different cashier out front.

I think it only makes sense to be able to buy liquor at the corner store, but since my income depends on that not happening, I say leave the law be until I finish school.

I managed a music store for a couple of years about 10 years ago. They held a job fair and hired like 20 people. I needed a job that had little hours during school, but a lot of hours in the summer. It was a good fit for me.

I visited Canada recently and was at first very excited to see your store. Then I was immediately depressed when I found out that you were closed. Why do you close so early (compared to liquor stores in the US)? Im guessing its bc the law makes you??

Does it ever annoy you when ppl bring in LARGE amounts of bottles/cans for return of their deposit? Got any good stories on this?!? ;-)

I remember when I was a kid going to the beer store with my dad and waiting for the beer to roll out of the back. It was the coolest store.

Why don't you sell beer to people with fakes? Is it possible for your store to get in trouble for selling beer to someone with a good fake?

I never understood this because I think you would always have the defense of "the ID looked legit."
