So, is the end really in 2012?

I watched part of "The last book of Nostra Damus" last night, and it confirms that the Apocalypse will happen in 2012. Along with the Mayan Calender ending in 2012, Nostra Damus fortells of the antichrist coming in one form or another and disastrous events leading to and ultimately culminating in the end of days around 2012. Does anyone believe this or have any thoughts? Discuss.

I don't believe in anything.

It also seems that the loss of faith is one of the main reasons God has given for drawing this charade to a close.

Ironic, huh?

Re: So, is the end really in 2012?

2012 has long been known as either the year of apocalypse or human awakening. I believe it all started because the Mayan calendar ends on December 21, 2012.

There are all sorts of predictions and literature about it but in general it all seems to be rubbish. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2012#Me...al_predictions

The only prediction that has any real basis in science is a very, very, very small chance that the Earth's magnetic field will reverse (this is inevitable as the field weakens over time), but even that is considered to not have disastrous effects.

I'm interested to see what believers will say after we're all rushing to buy last-minute xmas gifts on the 22nd.

It is amazing how someone can predict the future so accurately when they are reinterpreted once the future becomes the past.

Honestly, you have to be pretty [censored] stupid to believe in these predictions and omens. Let's see, the Mayan calendar only went to 2012, well about a billion computer program's dates only went to 2000. And the calendar on my wall only goes to Dec. 31 2007.... ON NOESSSS!

Re: So, is the end really in 2012?

iirc, December 21st 2012 is the end of a cycle in the long count Mayan calendar which doesn't directly translate into an apocalypse but more of a transition or major change in the world. The Mayans were amazing at predicting celestial events centuries or millenia in advance but is still not something to get worked up about.

yeah it's about a 4 century cycle. so assuming the world didn't end in 1604 or whenever the last one was, i think we are relatively ok

Re: So, is the end really in 2012?

* There have been 4 major catastrophes -- so far! -- in human history. If you add up the digits in 2012, you get 5. MIND BLOWING.

* The Mayans did predict the coming of the Europeans! Kukulcan was a symbolic representation of Cortez, they just misinterpreted the vision! BEWARE!

* McKenna's elves told him that 2012 would be the last year as well. THE EVIDENCE CONTINUES TO MOUNT.

* The Mayans are nowhere near extinct yet, they just don't look like the Mayans of the 1500s or live in step pyramids. But they will be extinct in 2012! DUM DUM DUMMMMMMM.

The ONLY possible hole in this theory is that the UNIX clock will not explode and cause suffering until 2038. Scientists are working night and day to resolve this issue. I'll keep this thread updated with results.

Despite the publicity generated by the 2012 date, Susan Milbraath, curator of Latin American Art and Archaeology at the Florida Museum of Natural History, stated that "We [the archaeological community] have no record or knowledge that [the Maya] would think the world would come to an end" in 2012.[12]

"For the ancient Maya, it was a huge celebration to make it to the end of a whole cycle," says Sandra Noble, executive director of the Foundation for the Advancement of Mesoamerican Studies in Crystal River, Fla. To render Dec. 21, 2012, as a doomsday or moment of cosmic shifting, she says, is "a complete fabrication and a chance for a lot of people to cash in."

i didn't watch but heard the same damn commercial over and over again "nostradamus predicted 9/11 - 'a great fireball in the sky'" how the hell does that mean he predicted 9/11? and, as horrible as it was, 9/11 was not that big of a disaster in the grand scheme of things. there have been far more disastrous events (i.e. higher death tolls) in recent memory that he could have/should have predicted instead, or in addition to.

please feel free correct me if my advertisement-based opinion is wrong.

Re: So, is the end really in 2012?

Forget poker - i'm going to help people refinance their homes under the assumption that nostradamus' predictions are all spot on and that the world will end in 2012. Then they'll all default when Mr. Damus is wrong. I can probably buy most of the lower-middle class suburbs in the USA. My only concern is if they have seen this show but I can probably just ship out DVDs (maybe VHS) to these neighborhoods - make it required summer reading by greasing school boards in the nicer neighborhoods.

I'm pretty sure this should be the plot for the next superman movie.

I don't believe that, but Riley Martin says that something is going to happen in 2012 - environmental catastrophes and things of that nature. So you better get your symbol, which is your ticket to ride so to speak, so the Biovians will rescue your ass from this planet and take you to the great mothership, you understand. Sounds reasonable to me.

This is fact. O-Qua Tangin Wann is coming back to save all of the believers who have symbols to board the mothership which is hidden behind Saturn. Uh, yeah man, a catastrophe is coming and things of this nature.

All of the people who tell you otherwise are simply disguised Targzissians who are obviously reptilian.
