Your most memorable Birthday

Because tomorrow is Timex's 18th birthday and he will be playing the WSOP in Europe as his first live poker experience, I got to thinking about my 18th birthday. I honestly can't remember it, and there are really only a couple of birthdays I actually DO remember. My question to the forum:

Which of your birthdays have been the most memorable to you?

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

My birthday is in the summer (August), which may make me a little bit jaded because it I never had to go to school or do something that would make it just another day, so I remember most of mine pretty well.

For me my most memorable birthday was my 19th, which ended up being a last hurrah for my closest friends from high school sitting around and relaxing. Very soon after we all left to various schools across the country, and we haven't been all in the same state at once since. There are very few people I connect with as deeply, and our last party together before going on our independent lives is special to me.

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

you reminded me of one of mine- thank you. My b-day is in the summer, too (July 31) and we always took family vacations during that time. On my 5th birthday, my parents gave me the choice of where we were going on vacation. Unbeknownst to me at the time, they had already planned our trip to a cabin in Tennessee with 2 other families. I chose to go to the county fair, lol.
I can still remember the looks on their faces. We ended up doing both, because they really screwed themselves, and with 4 kids I know this wasn't an easy feat for them. Funny, funny memory, and a really great trip.

I dont know which birthdays they were exactly, but the two that stick out were when I was much younger, on one fo the bdays we had a clown that, for a 5 or 6 year olds did some amazing magic tricks, at the other one, we had pony rides in my grandmas backyard in the middle of the city, we enjoyed the pooping more than anything

when I turned 21, my buddy got even more lit than I did and did the curly (lay on the ground and spin), in the middle of a bar w/ no shirt on...crazy night

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

i'm not really a big birthday person, so my most memorable would be the biggest party i guess.

my 21st we had a party with ~200 people or so at our house and i knew every single one. my friends DJed and played live music in different rooms, we had some strippers. that's about all i can write about without implicating anyone criminally.

we each had our own cabin in a little village situation by some lake. It was actually very nice, but times have changed considerably and I doubt many families do things like this anymore.

This thread sucks so far...

My wife arranged a surprise 40th bday party for me a month early and totally pwned me. Had about 100 people who managed to keep it secret, several of which came from some distance.

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

On my 11th or 12th birthday, I had dinner and a slumber party planned with my three good friends. We (me, my friends, and my parents) came home from dinner to find my 70ish y.o. grandma sitting on the couch in FOOTIE pajamas. She acted a little looney and said "I'm here for your party!"

I didn't really give it much thought, until the doorbell started ringing and about 10-12 of my aunts/uncles/cousins all file in wearing their pj's. One of my male cousins, who was in his 20's at the time, had oreos mashed up and somehow stuck to his face, and he was acting like he was 5.

I remember being very gracious to everyone, and we all enjoyed cake and ice cream and some laughs, but I was MORTIFIED (especially at the self conscious stage of my life that I was in). And I'll never forget the looks on my friends faces. Crazy stuff.

On my 21st, the summer before last, I stumbled outside to be greeted by 1 cop telling me that they were tired of always having to break up our parties so they had brought the bulk of the force to intimidate us/throw as many fines around as possible. Long story short our house party of ~150-200 people turned into a giant game of commando's as everybody was trying to run/sneak there way 4-5 blocks down the street to the beach to keep the party alive while avoiding half a dozen police cruisers, paddy wagons, cops patrolling, a helicopter spotlight, and 2 coast guard boats waiting at the beach to ticket anyone who did make it.

All my bdays basically sucked hard, one time tough was fun. It was last year when I became 21, the weather was really bad outside and the journals etc were warning everybody about it and you shouldnt go outside. So I was alone in my house and my best friend called me up that we def should celebrate than when it was around 23h he picked me up with his parents car and we went to the city and all the roads were all empty and the weather wasnt that bad. We went to a coffeeshop(netherlands) where a couple of my friend his classm8s(around 5guys) were w8ing for us and we smoked some weed and was nice overall.

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

After my junior year of high school, I was going on a school trip to France (two weeks with host families in Strasbourg, one week w/ Americans in Paris). School ended the 10th of June, and we were flying out the 11th of June, my birthday!

I got up in the morning, finished packing, but could not find my passport. I decided to go to the airport anyway, see if I could arrange something with my birth certificate, etc. As the whole rest of the school group watched, I got denied and told to book the same flight the next day and to get an emergency passport in the morning.
As my mom took me home from the airport, we both looked at each other and realized where my passport was. I had stuck it in a book in my backpack that was WITH ME THE WHOLE TIME AT THE AIRPORT, and it had fallen out and spent the whole ordeal in the bottom of my backpack.
My mom and I had a somber dinner at Pizza Hut, and I resolved to brush it off and come back to the airport the next day.

The next day, I got on the plane, and some stupid weather conditions kept us on the runway for an entire four and a half hours. Landing in Brussels five hours late, I found out that I had missed my connection to Strasbourg, and I said, "no problem, put me on the next one." "There is no next one."
At this point, I met up with a student group from a rival high school from my flight, and I found out they had booked a chartered bus as we waited for our luggage. They kindly invited me to join them. As I watched everyone else get their bags, I was told that they couldn't wait for me to get my luggage, and I would just have to come with them.

I spent six hours on the bus to Strasbourg with a bunch of freshmen and sophomores from a rival school (my group was mostly juniors and seniors, which felt like a huge maturity difference back then), and I managed with one change of clothes until I got my bags three days later. The rest of the trip was fun, but I don't think I'll ever have a birthday like that again.

Cliff Notes:
Junior in HS, going to France
lost passport, found it under my nose
delayed flight, missed connection
annoying bus ride, lost luggage

Mine was my 16th. Back then in PA you could get your driver's permit one month before your birthday. If you passed your permit test on the first try, and were lucky with the bureaucratic mess that is Penndot, you would receive your mailed paperwork to get your license on the day of your birthday. I was one of the lucky ones, and was able to pass my driver's test on my birthday. That night, my friends and I went "cruising" for girls. Of course we didnt' pick any up, but I never had a bigger sense of freedom. High school before I got my license was really not very much fun. High school after I got my license was the best time of my life.

my birthdays have been great but not very memorable so far. This next one will change all that. Going to Vegas to see Vegoose with best friends and girlfriend: RATM, Queens of the Stone Age, Public Enemy, Mastodon, Battles, Daft Punk, Robert Randolph and the Family Band, Ghostface Killah, and a bunch of other bands - some big - that I don't care very much about

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

I lived in Hawaii on my 22nd B-day. I was in the USAF and was loving life. But I was also living off very little money. That year my Bday was on a Fri or Sat night and we had all planned on going out drinking.

We brought 2 guys that were in on a TDY (Temporary Duty) from Alaska. They were real cool and we were looking forward to having some fun.

I remember I had $60 on me which was really all of my extra cash at the time. There was about 10 of us and I said I was buying the first drink, hoping everyone would follow suit and take their turn. So I buy the first round and 10 minutes later a friend bought a round. Then everyone got kind of quiet.

So I was like Efff it. I had my first ever credit card and I walked up to the bar and gave them my CC to run a tab.

Well next thing I knew i was frinking shots that were on fire. Then I blacked out until the morning . I was staring up at the beautiful Hawaii sky while lying in the back of a pick up truck. When I sat up I looked at the 2 guys from Alaska and noticed some vomit on the bed of the truck.

I then mustered up the courage to ask them who's puke it was and they said they thought it was mine. I told them I didn't think they were right because I felt so good. one of them pointed behind me as that I should look in the mirror.

So I turn around and notice puke in my hair, and all over my shirt.

We got back to the base and they dumped me off right in front of two CmSgt's. They didn't say crap they just stared like I was an idiot (How could they have come to that conclusion).

A few days later I told my friend that I thought my tab was free because I didn't remember signing anything.

A month later I found out my bill was around $400. (Which was more than 1/2 months pay)

My 11th. We had just came back from visiting my grandparents in Texas...I lived in Oklahoma at the time. The day after we got back home, we went to K-Mart and I saw a book in there titled "Why Did Grandpa have to Die?" Within two days, we got a call saying my grandpa died of a heart attack. My family went except for my younger brother and I (we didn't want to make the 10-hour drive again). We stayed with my other grandparents that lived in the same town as us. My grandpa took me fishing on my birthday which was the same day as my other grandpa's funeral.

100% true and definitely my most memorable birthday.

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

Don't remember how old, but I had a pirate party as a kid that was awesome.

My mom buried some coins in the sandbox in the back yard and each guest got one chance to dig for treasure. We made pirate costumes and used a burnt cork to draw on some awesome pirate facial hair. She made a "plank" in the basement (elevated board) with a bucket of water at the end that you had to cross and jump over blindfolded (while blindfolded, the bucket was moved so you didn't get wet.) The cake had coins in the cake mix (she wrapped coins in foil and mixed them in before baking.) It was awesome.

My, soon to be, 5-year old son said that he wants to have a pirate birthday party this year and I can't wait to pull of a better party than my mom It will surely involve a treasure map with a buried treasure in the empty lot a few doors down.

having a disaster happen on your b-day really does suck. Jimmy's is April 19, the same day as the Oklahoma City bombing, one day before Colombine, I think some other stuff that he knows about. It used to bother him I think- still might.

Re: Your most memorable Birthday

I turned 30 last December. My girlfriend and I have birthdays two days apart, and had gone to stay at a bed and breakfast the previous year down in Chatham (Cape Cod). Winter on the Cape is very peaceful, so it was a nice relaxing weekend and we decided to do it again.

We checked into our B&B friday night and headed out for a nice dinner. We chilled and drank a bottle of wine afterwards and had a nice quiet night in our room. Saturday (the day of my birthday) we had breakfast, went out and cruised around town, grabbed lunch, took a walk on the beach, and generally just checked stuff out. Around mid-afternoon we went back to our room and watched Wordplay and had a couple beers. Afterwards we busted out the local paper and fumbled our way through the entire crossword puzzle together; we considered this a massive accomplishment.

We got ready to go out for my "big birthday dinner" which was to consist of appetizers and drinks at a bar we like down there, dinner at the yet-to-be disclosed restaurant, then dessert somewhere else. We took a taxi to the first bar and walked in. I tried to grab 2 empty seats at the bar, but she was insistent on going to the back room. I argued to no avail as I followed her back there, and then I saw a room full of about 30 of my closest friends and family. This was only the second time in my life I was truly surprised, and I was speechless. It never crossed my mind she would have a surprise party for me down there because it was at least an hour and half for everybody, two and a half for some. She asked me if I was mad but I couldn't have been happier.

We had an unbelievable night of debauchery, including playing many boisterous games of LCR, feasting on an entire box of chocolate-covered shots, whooping up on the locals on the pool table (as well as harassing them in general - the back room was ours, damnit), dancing, and of course many, many shots for the birthday boy. I tackle-hugged every attendee at least twice and couldn't stop telling people I loved them all. I estimate my blackout to have begun around 10:30, but I hear we didn't get back to the room until 2:00. I know this because when we finished breakfast the following morning, the B&B owner informed us that our neighbors complained about us starting a fight in the parking lot and then banging around and screaming in the room at 2am. I later found out this was just me not wanting to go to bed because I did not want the night to end. I think I broke both glasses in the bathroom too. She apparently refunded them their money, and hinted that we should pay. I was hungover/still drunk and belligerent and told her she was [censored] crazy. A slight argument ensued and we were informed we are not bed and breakfast people (we suspected this already), we were no longer welcome, and she was going to spread the word. Oh well - that makes two towns I have been kicked out of. I left $20 in the room to cover the glasses I broke.

I also found out that, in a different B&B, a buddy of mine filled the whole place with smoke because he drunkenly lit a late-night fire in the fireplace without opening the flue then passed out, and my sister overflowed the toilet in their room at the same place, which poured down onto the dining table below...during breakfast. Neither of them are welcome back either.

Not only was it my most memorable birthday (aside from the 4-hour blackout, of course), but one of the best nights of my life.

On my 20th birthday, I was in Aruba, and I lost more money than I've ever lost before in a single day (still to this day I think) playing the juicy cash games.

On my 21st birthday, the UIGEA was passed.

I also tried E (only time I've ever done it) and drank and yelled so much that I was sick for over a month afterward and had to miss two WPT's. Somewhere out there, there are pics of me, Antonio Esfandiari's father, and a few other poker players dancing shirtless on a stage in front of a huge crowd at Senor Frogs. There are also videos of me doing unreal terrible karaoke.

I've spent my past three birthdays in Aruba (obviously because of WPT) and am looking forward to a non-Aruba birthday this year .

Birthdays suck.

I don't have any terribly memorable bdays, they've almost all been great but nothing amazing.

My parents however, run horribly.

My father's father passed away on his b-day and on my Mom's b-day this year she (thankfully in the most minor way possible) broke her back.
