Worst mod decision ever?

How do you ban someone for an April Fools joke? Maybe it was a dumb/bad joke, but it wasn't offensive and it's pretty much the norm for people throughout the damn country on April Fools!

I'm losing track of how many people are in on this. All I know is that Cyrus isn't.

You're missing the context. ACers, one after the other, made unfunny thread after unfunny thread claiming conversion to a government system. It was witless, humorless, bloodless, sheep-like, and getting old very fast. Pure attention getting - look at me! I'm AC! No one would have a problem with witty, interesting, or subtle April fools jokes.

a close second would be to keep the politics forum open

Actually in the unlocked ones non-ACists posted saying it was funny. I can see why you'd be biased though.

Umm, I don't think NFLOL's was a joke. He hates capitalism and always (in his time at 2p2 anyways) has.

Those were supposed to be funny? Yikes.

edit: That said, being poor at humor seems like a silly reason to ban someone.

Hey, at least a couple people said mine was funny and almost fell for it!

I guess you'd have to read a lot of the politics threads to appreciate it. PVN's for instance was almost completely a copy/paste job of an old OP from moorobot, someone with polar opposite views of PVN. I incorporated several arguments of people I've debated against in the past. HMK's was exceptionally funny if you know HMK. WillMagics's while I thought it was good, the first poster took it as mocking statism (I don't think the first poster even connected the dots wrt april fools, just figured it was blatent trolling). Not sure what people thought of Neilsio's as his was locked quickly.

Borodog's might have been funny, we'll never know because of the mod's current fascist tendancies.

Right, like the worst thing that should be done is a quick lock/delete and a "knock it off" mail. Banning someone is WAY over the top.

Fair enough. I can't say I do. And I didn't read them all in detail, but a quick scan of them didn't resonate with me.

Man, some strange stuff goes on in you guys' forum!

Re: Worst mod decision ever?

I agree, its an aweful decision.

One rule to rule them all, one ban to remove them all.

Ban everyone making those threads, its the only way to be sure.

Leave it to the Politics forum to [censored] up even April Fool's. Jesus [censored] christ.

Re: Worst mod decision ever?

BTW this was pretty obvious to me, since the "edited by" field was the same font size as the edited post. Normally the edited font is a couple of points smaller. Also, the edit time was immediate (same minute) but yet was three hours off (Borodog is obviously in EDT). This is also inconsistent with a standard edit.

Conclusion: tup >>>>>>>>>>>>&g t;>> politics posters.

Re: Worst mod decision ever?

Didn't read the April Fools day stuff and am not really knowledgeable about all the politcs-forum drama that lead to the context of all this.

But would it not be at all effective to just lock or delete the offending post and then PM the poster to tell him you feel we've had enough of these?

If, after a warning or deletion, they then go on to try to defy the mod again in some annoying way then go ahead and ban them I guess.
But I think 3-day bans as a first-response to something that apparently others were already doing is possibly not the best approach.

I'm sure a certain someone will be around soon to mention some movie about Nazis that he saw recently, and how it made him think about the politics mods...and then the thread will be complete.
