[ QUOTE ] 4USF [/ QUOTE ] You realize USF would get smoked by the majority of teams on this list, right??? [/ QUOTE ] They said USF would probably get smoked by Auburn in week 2. They beat Auburn 26-23...the same Auburn team that beat #9 (coming into the joke of a game they played against LSU tonight) Florida. They said #5 West Virginia would beat them. 21-13, another W for USF. You can say what you want, but the kind of hating on smaller programs that are just starting to be able to beat the big boys is what made Boise State have to fight so hard to make a BCS Bowl. They said Oklahoma would smoke Boise State. A statue of liberty play later, the RB was proposing to his GF on the sideline...victorious. |

Re: Rank \'em CFB week 6
I'm as high on the SEC as anyone, but South Carolina at #3 and Kentucky at #9? That seems like a little bit much. Remember, the Gamecocks were nowhere near as competitive with LSU as Florida was and the Georgia win looks much less impressive after what happened to the Dawgs today. Not sure how you justify having them ahead of an Ohio State team that hasn't been challenged yet. And Kentucky's best win is over an Arkansas team that you wouldn't even rank.
Also, how the hell is Missouri so low? They're undefeated with a neutral-site win over Illinois (who you have ahead of them) and they also pounded the Huskers tonight. Can't fathom how you leave them out of the Top Ten. |
Re: Rank \'em CFB week 6
I really don't think tOSU is any good and expect Michigan to beat them to end their season and knock them out of the top ten. Actually I think I should've put tOSU just below Oregon.
You're right on South Carolina, I just looked at the final score of 28-16 which wasn't really reflective on their performance against LSU. This is also reflected with Kentucky as I thought they were competitive and just completely was unaware that they were kind of beat up. I wouldn't change my positioning of them but I'd probably knock Kentucky down a few. I think the Big 12 North is a joke and don't think much of Missouri or Nebraska. But yeah slide Missouri one slot above Illinois for the head to head win. I expect Illinois to lose in two weeks to Michigan anyways. |

Things that shock me: Florida, while losing, pretty much outplayed the #1 team in the country (if not, certainly on the same level). West Virginia, while having good athletes, kind of sucks. I am surprised people are ranking WVU over UF. I'm also really surprised that anyone thinks the top 3 is anything other than LSU/Cal/tOSU (in that order). Beyond that, some of you have fun rankings that I like to see. |

However, they also lost at home to Auburn and you can't really just let that slide. That's a bad loss and it's enough that they don't belong in the Top Ten. West Virginia's only loss was on the road to an undefeated team that had already beaten Auburn so I give them the benefit of the doubt for now. |

LSU won the TOP 35:52 to 24:08--that isn't close and they also had more total yards in this game. If you remember LSU's kicker missed two very makable FG's, if he didn't suck last night this game is a 10 point victory 34-24 and the end of the game isn't as nail-biting as it was. Florida played great but let's not get carried away by saying they outplayed anyone. LSU played better and they won. |
Re: Rank \'em CFB week 6
Ohio State gets no respect it seems. Anyone who has seen their defense play should rank them ahead of Cal.
Purdue was undefeated with one of the best offenses int he country, and they were completely stuffed by OSU. I'm really hoping for an LSU/OSU title game as it will be one of the best defensive games in recent memory. |
Re: Rank \'em CFB week 6
LSU won because they converted 5 fourth downs and because they won the turnover battle. Florida had more yards per rush and more yards per pass. "Outplayed" might be a little strong, but they definitely gave a very good showing in the Bayou, and it's enough that you'd almost expect them to win a rematch at a neutral site after their young team has another 2 months to gel. If I were an LSU fan, I'd be rooting hard for South Carolina when they play the Gators.

Pretty good job by the AP this week. Hawaii at #16 is obviously a mistake, and Missouri and Kansas should be a little higher, but other than that, they did well.

Re: Rank \'em CFB week 6
Im a big Boston College homer but when you review the season they are horribly overranked, anything in the top 10 is being generous to them. Sure, they are undefeated but they haven't played anyone of note in 3 weeks, 20 point win over Army at home, 10 point win over 1AA UMass at home and 30 points over Bowling Green, meanwhile the powerhouses of the SEC are facing each other. Even BC's "big" ACC wins have been undermined, Wake Forest is 3-2 and aren't anything great, NC State (1-5)is terrible and GTech (3-3) was hugely overrated when BC beat them.
I think Matt Ryan is great and they are undefeated so its easy to put them in the top7 but realistically given their resume I think they are probably #15. |

[/ QUOTE ] Umm, the turnover battle had little to do w/ the outcome of the game actually, both scored once on turnovers. Flo had one more turnover. And the YPC and YPP aren't what you think they are: YPC: FLO- 4.9 LSU- 4.8 YPP: FLO- 6.1 LSU- 6.1 So no, Flo didn't avg. more per play than LSU and even if they did it is trivial b/c LSU controlled the clock. The team that has the ball for 11 more minutes even though avg'ing the same yards per play is going to win. I said they gave a good showing but you would be crazy to expect them to win a rematch on a neutral field. |
