Official Thread on the Foxnews Republican Debate

All of these gentlemen look very stately and Presidential.

Guillianni hit one out of the park by saying that none of the leading three democrats have ever run a city, a state, or a business and it isn't the time for on the job executive training.

Ron Paul said that Fred Thompson would deplete the votes in his favor because he is the only anti-war Republican Candidate.

Right now, they are having a row about illegal immigration. I don't believe they will actually do anything they say, however.

What?

I didn't tune in until just now. Thompson said he would have acted basically the same as Bush in Iraq.

Re: Official Thread on the Foxnews Republican Debate

Ron Paul just talked about personal responsibility, property rights, the second amendment and the incompetance of the federal government with regard to security on airlines. He says you should make the airlines responsible for the safety of their passengers and keep the government out.

It went over well.

Now they're talking about family values and social experiments.

I don't know.

He's definately taking every opportunity to stump for his candidacy. I don't really feel he's answering the questions asked.

Ron Paul with a nice anti-war speech there.

And wow awesome strawman by foxnews man.

Also, this crowd is getting pumped.

Ron Paul just set up a strawman about the genocide that would occur if we withdrew from Iraq. -2 points. He's almost come unglued about the war. He just got hammered by Hume. And a counter attack about the constitution. Did not play well. This is good [censored].

Ron Paul just got baited on Iraq. He fell in the trap. Points to Brownback. Although Pual did recover toward the end of it.

Pual is not doing as well as he has previously.

Re: Official Thread on the Foxnews Republican Debate

Strawman countered by another strawman... Hmmmm....

He accused Paul of letting Al Queda determine our agenda.

I'm going to ponder that one. Not so sure of the strawman aspect of that statement. One of the best strategies for fighting a war is to keep your enemy playing your game. So far we are doing that more to them than they are to us. I'll chew on it.

Re: Official Thread on the Foxnews Republican Debate

Yeah, Paul is doing ok considering everyone is against him. There's a good amount in the crowd that cheered for his anti-war stance and want the war ended, but most are pro war. All of the other candidates are playing the "we must support the troops and see this though for America" card. I thought Paul had some good points.

Ouch!

Romney just got pwned by a guy who has a kid in Iraq. No way he can even respond. He's babbling about success of the surge. Pandered about the military. Not good. Not Presidential. He should have talked about the importance of the election process and how his kid is making that process work.

The bigger concern is the safety of the people and property those planes are capable of crashing into. I'm not saying the government would necessarily do a better job, but you have to wonder whether an airline that is on the verge of insolvency would be tempted to cut security corners to make ends meet. The difference between airlines and most other economic transactions is that the threat of PUBLIC harm from the malfeasance or negligence of the company is much greater. GM makes a bad car and maybe a couple of people die. If an airline has poor security thousands of people could die and there could be economic damage in the hundreds of billions. And what happens if they're busto?

There's much more nuance to this issue then simply "Let the airlines take care of it."

I bet that the airlines are all for the government bearing the cost to provide the security. Any good business will externalize costs whenever possible.

I see where you are going with this but consider the idea of how important it is for airlines to assure safety. It is essential for their survival of a comapny to convince its people that their service is 100% assured. I feel the government and their buraucracy tends to slow things down.
