Bankroll Poll

For several months Ive played 50NL and only kept $500 online at the end of the month. At the beginning of the month I dropped over 5 buy-ins. My rule is to never deposit money online, If I get low I move down to recover.
So I slowly grinded back to $350 before going back to 50NL. Which I then ran ok at and at the end of the month Im at $850.
The point is, Having to move down, slowed me down.

So wondering how many buy-ins you guys keep online. Im considering keeping 15 from now on.

Sir,

Doesn neteller count as online.

If so, i keep my entire roll online (so, 30-40 buy ins for my "main" game). once it leaves neteller though, it doesn't come back.

Re: Bankroll Poll

I also keep my whole roll online these days, and will never reload from there. I think if you want to move up and take shots you really need to reinvest as much of your winnings as possible to your roll.

These posts come up pretty often and most people in SSNL keep 30+ buyins.

Id say yes it counts as online.

Me personally, I withdraw to neteller at the end of the month then take a cheque immediately. I have an Interest savings account I keep my roll in.

But I guess for all of you who keep your roll on neteller, answer what you beleive is nessasary to keep on your regular site.

Why, when all the money is just a couple of clicks away? I think people who treat their "roll" as "money I have on site X" really don't understand the concept of bankroll. Bankroll = money you are willing to gamble (play poker) with. If you keep $200 in site X but are willing to deposit up to $1000 more if you lose that $200, your bankroll is $1200, not $200.

That being said, my Neteller is like my business account and I withdraw to my personal funds on regular basis (to pay rent, buy food), and give myself bonuses.

Recently I cleared out most of it because I wanted to take advantage of interest, but I still keep over 70 buy-ins online to be able to take advantage of bonus whoring opportunities and just to feel safe because that's when having a downswing of 5 buyins hardly matters at all.

EDIT: oh, and I play .5/1NL, so 70 buyins isn't that much money.

I chose "entire bankroll" but I keep my live game winnings on hand for casinos and home games. I haven't moved money from one category to the other yet.

Re: Bankroll Poll

You need 20-30, 30-40 and 50+ in your options. I tend to keep between 10-20 per site I play regularly and the rest in either Neteller or my bank account.

Thats what I do with all the money Im withdrawing. Live games are so soft its unbelievable. You just need to come up with the proper roll before you play.

Last vacation I watched some $5/$5 NL. What a fish pond.

42it - Thanks for the response. With out fixing the poll it looks like every keeps a big roll.

Thanks everyone.

Re: Bankroll Poll

If you will never deposit, then what you have online is your entire roll and having more offline is irrelevant.

I play a very LAG 6max game, so it's not uncommon to drop a couple buyins pretty quickly (nor to win a couple pretty quickly). I'd turn hella weak-tight if I only had 10 buyins.

In contrast, my bankroll management is actually quite conservative. I won't play with fewer than 50 buyins in my roll (but will have far, far fewer on one individual site).

Thanks for the feedback.

Most people, myself included, have a "bankroll" that is not exclusively online and definitely not all on one site.

I may play with only 5 buyins on one site; but that doesn't make my bankroll 5 buyins, as I have money elsewhere I can draw on if needed.

My entire roll is split between an interest bearing bank account, Neteller, and various poker sites.

IF you dont mind me hijacking a bit, Id like to ask a question of crowd. What is your "withdrawal strategy" assuming you are withdrawing some of your profit on a semi regular basis?

My withdrawals could better be described as semi-random.

I just let it pile up until I'm way over-bankrolled for limits I'm comfortable playing, then I cash a bunch of it out.

Since switching to NL, I've cashed out all but $5k and am building that back up through play/bonuses.

Think I might switch to a "cashing half my profits" strategy once I get to $10k and start playing NL$200.

I leave it in unless I need it/want to buy something. I use it for things I would otherwise not buy like Vegas trips, digital camera, an iPod video, to bribe the GF to let me go to AC/Vegas. You know the non-essentials, except for the last part

Elevens,

Your bankroll management strategy is all wrong. When your roll gets depleted, you need to move UP in stakes so you can get unstuck more quickly. Who among us hasn't had a tilt-bender find us successfully stealing blinds at $1000NL for a quick score?

My god its so simple! What a donkey Ive been

Vulter, my plan now is to withdraw 50% of profits until I have 30 buy-ins. After that I will withdraw 100% of profits above 30 buy-ins until I feel I want to move up. At which point I will withdraw 50% of profits until I reach 30 buy ins for next level.

Is this a good idea? Don't know yet.

I've found great success around the office getting coworkers to gamble on coinflips, which is better EV than red or black. I'm up like $7 bucks this month.

This is confusing and is probably all wrong, follow KISS.

If you want to make quick bucks, deposit in an online casino, bet 1 buy-in on Green until you hit. If you know anything about gambling, you gotta increase your variance if you want to beat -EV games, just read that Malmuth's book.

Meh, I built my poker bankroll by earning $6,500 in a few months playing online blackjack. Note the term "earning." This was bonus whoring, pure and simple. I followed the advice I saw online and withdrew profits from almost every casino I joined. Nice little bankroll builder, but it did absolutely destroy any love I ever had for the game of blackjack. After 40,000 hands or so, it gets somewhat boring....

So, I bought myself some nice stuff and made my first deposits at poker websites, and I've been playing with house money ever since.

As to bankroll management, I haven't made a deposit in two years, but I also haven't withdrawn anything in a year. My bankroll is a bit over 100 buyins, and I don't plan to withdraw any time soon. To me, the money is just hypothetical, and just a way of keeping score in the game.
