5/10 play-along vs a reg
Haven't done one of these in a while and thought this was an interesting hand.
Villain is Birdstone44. I feel like I played against him a LOT several month ago, but haven't played with him in a while. I'm only playing him now because I'm playing during the early evening, which I almost never do. In any case, I have him running around 27/23 this session but no real history. Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
Preflop is boring and can probably go either way, so I'll just post the flop, too. But feel free to discuss preflop if you think one option is much better than another.

Do you guys have any idea what his range would be for a c/r, though? I definitely feel like I have no idea...

Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
OK, well most people like a bet, it seems, as did I. And he didn't c/r, so even though I would love to know what you guys think his range is for c/r'ing (because I have no clue) I'll post the turn, too, because that's where I was uncertain what to do for realz.

Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
9 matters a lot, because he just made trips.
At least, middle pair is usually what I have when I give up initiative and check/call flop. Or QQ-TT. |

how sure are you guys? are you just checking the turn and then folding on a 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] river ?

[/ QUOTE ] i think it's ridiculous to say he just made trips, but the other made hands he can have like JJ are not likely to bet the river. i have seen people show up with draws here a surprising amount. i'm also not sure he'd check again with trips and straight and 2 flush draws out. i def don't think its so clearcut |
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
No way am I folding if I checked back the turn on a 2[img]/images/graemlins/club.gif[/img] river. I also disagree about the 9 making him trips all the time. There are plenty of hands he could have here. TT-QQ, TJ, Heart draw, etc. It depends on how he plays his draws; but if you check behind the turn he could easily have a draw that was going for a c/r on the turn and then decides to bluff the river.
If you're checking behind the turn you should be calling pretty much anything on a deuce river. Edit: Crap. Pretty much everything Josh said. |
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
so are there any rivers you'd fold to if you check the turn? a heart? a straight card? a diamond?
|
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
I doubt he c/c flop with a draw. So I check it back and see what happens.
|
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
I'll fold to Q[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img]... maybe A[img]/images/graemlins/heart.gif[/img] too.

For straight cards call J obviously, sometimes fold Q river. Definitely fold Qh river. Same with 7. Call x% of the time on a 7 river and always fold 7h. |
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
well now i know why i was confused on the turn. you guys are split pretty evenly between all three options with bet/fold lagging a bit behind the other two...

[/ QUOTE ] Getting c/r on the turn makes me vomit because he's likely to do it with all of his range. Therefore I check the turn. Edit: I shouldn't have said all of his range. He's not doing it with TT-QQ. You're up against draws,9's, and AK. |

Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
Check, you're not getting 3 streets vs QQ.
If he bets the river I mostly call bc I am a station. Also I want to know what he has. |
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
PUSH IT ALL IN PREFLOP, POT ODDS YO
|
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
-call pf is std...... you got position and your hand sucks in a reraised pot and yadada
-i'd bet/call the flop b/c no one c/r a strong hand on this board What I don't understand why everyone is saying check or bet/call the turn... it would take a huge bluff to c/r something other than a 9... not to mention if the villain chose to bluff he'd prob do it with a hand that had decent equity against us. So bet/call seems out. I hate the check on the turn because you are missing value on draws. If you assuming he isn't c/r bluffing on the turn (seems pretty safe to me) then it seems you are missing out on a lot of value against a large portion of his range. Also if you are so scared of the 9... betting out here and getting raised costs the same as calling the river, so why not value the drawing portion of the villains range? |

Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
bet turn, fold to a raise, if called c/f river
|
Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
PF: Pretty standard call, IMO.
Flop: Bet/call seems awfully standard here. I'm more than happy to get it in, in this spot. Turn: When I'm running good, I just keep blasting away here, and don't ever fold. I see people call down with AT and crap all the time, or show up with a weird bluff. Checking and planning on picking off most river bets looks fine too. EDIT: heh, somehow I kinda skipped over reads. Flop play still holds, but I'm a lot more likely to check vs a decent reg. On the river, you can fold on a blank sometimes. |

-call pf is std...... you got position and your hand sucks in a reraised pot and yadada - [/ QUOTE ] What about against a SB who is raising you 3 out of 4 times in your blind battles? Wouldn't this hand warrant a raise? and this guys is 27/23, he's obviously raising lite. I think i'd be happy to 3-bet this pf. As played, bet flop, check turn, call most rivers... you did your job in keeping the pot reasonable by checking the turn, allowing you to call river bets. If he has trip 9s, so be it. |

Re: 5/10 play-along vs a reg
pf call; rather rep a worse hand by calling than rep a good hand by raising when if he calls i could be on planet reverse implied.
flop bet obv bet. fold to check raise. turn check, you dont want to risk being semi bluffed off the best hand. if your betting for value, there isnt a great deal that's calling you. better to induce a bluff from him on river or if he checks river, he may think you made a standard stab on the flop, and so are now bluffing river and youll get called by hands you wouldnt of on turn. river call if he bets for reason above, if checked to value bet for reason above. |
