So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

Our resident degenerate Man of Means recently wrote up a little trip report that reminded me of how much free time I'll have in May. I suspect others--those who are in the academy in some form or other, or are unemployed degenerates (in the most affectionate sense possible)--will have some free time as well. And what better way to spend that time then playing some live poker side-by-side (not literally at the same table, of course) with 2p2ers?

Come to Foxwoods and experience "the wonder of it all" with us. To be honest, Foxwoods is gimmicky as hell and kind of looks like a giant shopping mall populated by a mix of degenerates and retirees (cf. BigBadBabar's descriptions of old women hooked up to oxygen tanks still playing penny slots (and getting cash)). The restaurants and hotels are all somewhat overpriced. But, really, who cares about any of that? We're going to go and have a great time getting our gamb00l and our drank (spelling intentional) on sometime in May.

Below are the dates that I'm available. Post here with dates, names, photos, etc. that might be useful for a Foxwoods meetup. You should also say how long you're interested in staying.

I could conceivably go the 13th for just a day trip if that's what people want, or anytime the 16th through 22nd as a one or two day thing.

I'm going to get there within the next year, I promise. So May of next year perhaps? [img]/images/graemlins/laugh.gif[/img]

Yeah, I'm pretty much going to try to go every time I have more than one day off in a row (which will hopefully happen several times in May) and am certainly looking for an opportunity to debut my whale shorts.

So yeah, it would be a pretty big honor to play and party w/ BBB, DrM and myself, we're a pretty big deal. Later.

QFT.

Also, Matt, honestly... TPK, BBB and I are above having a group name. We are the paragon of human existence, and untouched by the quotidian goings-on of you mere mortals. If hoi polloi wants a name for us, you can use "New England Gangstas," but it's indifferent to us what nomenclature you prefer.

I may be game for the 2nd or 3rd weekends in May, but I might also elect go go dancing in Boston or CT, respectively, instead for those weekends. I'll talk to people on Wed. to see if anyone else from here wants to go to either event. If not, I may be game.

Re: So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

Is it true that the cheapest hotel rooms there are $75/day? What are the lowest limits played?

I'm planning some Casino trip to the states later this year (like in summer), but I'm not yet decided where to go. Vegas of course is an option, but it seems that the journey is more expensive than the journey to Foxwoods (I'm from Europe), but I suppose the Hotels are cheaper in Vegas?

I'd like to have some chance to win enough to cover my travel expenses [img]/images/graemlins/smile.gif[/img].

Re: So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

lowest limit game at foxwoods is 2/4 limit which frankly plays like i don't even know what online. .1/.2 maybe? there are 7-8 to every flop and no one ever folds, so maybe like poker online was a few years ago for all of you veterans. obviously the games get tougher a bit as you move up but i would say the 10/20 limit game there is maybe like a .5/1 or a 1/2 limit game online these days. for no limit, lowest game is 1/2 nl with minimum buyin i think 60? it may be 100 now. and max buyin 300. that can get expensive obviously if you take a beat or two. they also have sit n goes but those cost i think $100 or so each to enter. perhaps more people can chime in here with information.

"Get ready to burn and turn in the only casino poker room in New England."

Eye h8 poker but will probably be spending the whole weekend at a 4/8 table getting stomped by players who coldcall 3 bets with KTo.

The foxwoods hotels are not going to be "cheap" on the weekend, but a 4-way split would be affordable for the low roller. Also, about 10 miles away you can find something like the norman bates style Stardust Motel.

Bilgefisher 04-23-2007 11:18 AM

Re: So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

Vegas can cost you money because there is tons more to do than just gambool. I found the tables to be tighter(not necessarily better) then most places Ive played. Of course I was in vegas for redneck weekend aka nascar weekend.

Makes me wish I was still living in upstate New York. (Only about 4 hours from Foxwoods) This 2/5 max limit on Colorado sucks.

ok i should post to clarify that foxwoods is in connecticut, which is in the northeast part of the usa, and that we are mostly all coming from that general region of the country. possibly we can carpool if you can get to one of our places beforehand.

If actually want respect for your raises, meh... You could play $4/$8 with this amount, but you've only got 50 bets and could easily lose all of that if you hit some negative variance. I'd play $2/$4 if that's the amount you've available, and no, they definitely won't respect your raises there.

Where are you coming from? What dates are good for you? Etc. Etc.

Driving in from PA, last week in May if I'm in. I have some other travel to take care of and the schedules still up in the air, but I have yet to play in a live LHE ring game, and I prefer to play poker with friends.

Babar was telling me on AIM that 100BB is std buy in for him. I could prob swing 600 for that 4/8 game now that I know how close FW is to me, relatively speaking, and for limit games, I always buy in short anyway.

BigBadBabar 04-24-2007 09:52 AM

Re: So, we are going to Foxwoods in May

100 bb isn't my standard buyin but that's what i will often take for the whole trip just so i don't have to worry about variance as much if i start off down. at the table i buy in with one rack which is 25 bb for the 4/8. buying in short is fine since it's a limit game, as long as you have 10 bb or so in front of you in case a big hand comes up. guys come in with 40 bucks ( 5 bb ), bust it, pull out 40 more, and repeat, for hours.

Long ago there was an awkward, lanky kid whose most valuable posessions were this:

[image]http://microkit.free.fr/Nintendo/Nes/nintendo_nes_1s.jpg[/image]

and an illicitly-gotten copy of this:

[image]http://contentcafe.btol.com/Jacket/Jacket.aspx?SysID=digital&CustID=bt0113&Ke y=612385222191&Type=L&Return=1[/image]

He was a platforming game guru, and one of his favorite was this classic:

[image]http://www.theoldcomputer.com/Libarary's/Pictures/NESGameCovers/B/Bionic%20Commando.jpg[/image]

[image]http://www.videogamecritic.net/images/nes/bionic_commando.gif[/image]

A game in which a cybernetic super soldier saves the word by preventing the resurrection of HITLER!

Years later, the awkward kid grew up, eventually winning the all-county award for detentions in a semester. Having developed the quick wit and shady tendencies needed to be great, he gave up his NES for an account on PokerStars. In homage to his favorite game, he called himself "Bionic_Comman..."

WTF?

^H^H^H^H

C.o.m.m.a.n ...

"Goddammit! They limited the characters." he thought to himself and so, in an inspired moment, the young fish decided to become the Bionic_Comma.

Ship it, and don't forget the comma.

I'm not sure if imageshack has the same function as photobucket. Photobucket allows you to edit your picture size to message board size. So you don't piss people off when you post your pictures by breaking the window.
