3 - hand and player that busted Howard Lederer's top set in 04' WSOP?

Not sure of the exact hand, but I believe Doyle made a flush.

4 - who said "must be the luck shirt" to Freddy Deeb in 03' WSOP ME?

The quote is just "must be the shirt" and it was Ivey.

7 - who won the ME the only year it was not televised?

I'm pretty sure there are several WSOP MEs that haven't been televised. I'm sure the first few weren't. The last one not to be televised was won by Chris Ferguson.

What's the purpose of this quiz?

No idea, but I'd be willing to bet "Huck Seed" was the answer being sought.

Varkonyi's win was definitely televised. Hellmuth, after being knocked out, said to the commentators that he'd shave his head if Varkonyi won.

6 - Sam Grizzle

7 - Probably referring to Chris Ferguson, but I haven't seen Carlos Mortensen's win or the year after Ungar in (I think) 1998.

Varkonyi was televised - no hole card cam, the players autographed the felt where they were seated, and Hellmuth shaves his head at the end when RV wins.

Ferguson's was on the Discovery Channel as well as the Furlong and Mortensen wins. Huck Seed wasn't televised by any network. Varkonyi's broadcast had "hole cards", but only for hands that actually made it to a showdown.

Re: TV Poker (WSOP) Quiz

Here's the answer to the TV question. A little bit of history also.

WSOP wasn't televised for most of the 70s and early 80s.

1973 it was televised by CBS I think as a special hosted by Jimmy the Greek

78 and 79 it was hosted by Brent Musberger and Frank Glieber with Jimmy the Greek doing color.

Stu's first win wasn't televised 81-83 were televised by CBS with Curt Gowdy and Bobby Baldwin hosting.

84-86 weren't televised.

Since Johnny Chan it's been televised every year in some way except for Huck Seed's win in 96.

ESPN ran the final table from 88 till 95. When Stu got to the final table in 97 they televised it again with Gabe Kaplin and Phil Hellmuth and Jim Albrecht doing the broadcast. That one was outside in Vagas in the middle of summer. What were they thinking?

Anyway back to the subject. They didn't have actual whole card cameras in Poker till 2003.

So to answer the question of the winners of the years it wasn't televised

Johnny Moss(3 times 70, 71, 74)
Amarillo Slim(72)
Sailor Roberts(75)
Doyle Brunson(Twice 76 and 77)
Stu Ungar(1980)
Jack Keller(1984)
Bill Smith(1985)
Berry Johnston(1986)
and Huck Seed(1996)

I remember him spiking a Q with his AQ vs Eskimo's AK...he went to shake Eskimo's hand after he busted and Eskimo was pissed and shrugged him off

he also shoved with 45o to Thunder Keller's QQ on a JJ2 board...showed the bluff and said "I was on the draw"
