If Michigan wins, all Boise State has to do to get back to the BCS is win out. I'd love to see a mid-major in the BCS with a loss, so GO MICHIGAN!!!

I would love for Lloyd to come out and run 3 and 4 wide the whole game in his last go 'round, running a few draws with Hart to keep their D honest. Go no huddle and try to shock the crap out of tOSU. I cant see us playing straight up and trying to run against them and having much success. Otherwise, I dont think we have a great chance, especially with as banged up as Henne and Hart are.

Also, if I see a wide open Manningham overthrown again on a deep ball I may just throw the remote through the TV screen.

FWIW, College Gameday will be in Ann Arbor for the game Saturday. Haven't been here since the 2003 OSU/UM game.

I would love to see us lose this game if it means that Lloyd Carr is finally mercifully put out to pasture. It would really, really suck if we were to somehow win this game + the Rose Bowl (not that this would happen, but still) and then have the AD turn around and extend his contract. Srsly.

edit: also, if Mallett is the starter we have zero chance. Henne's freshman season was a wonder compared to this guy and I'm not happy about the next two years if he's the starter, either.

Not sure if you saw adanthar, but Lloyd's retiring:

Henne's freshman year was partially a product of throwing to Jason Avant and Braylon Edwards. He threw some pretty crappy balls with zero touch, but he only needed to put it within 6 feet of those guys for a completion.

The anti-Carr stuff is silly. Long-time speculation was he would retire after this year. Very strong, reliable info today in various places (MGOBLOG being the non-pay variety) insists he will announce next Monday. Regardless, whatever you may or may not think of Carr, it's doubtful that the next hire is so much better that we should welcome ANOTHER defeat to OSU instead of another Big Ten title and a trip to Pasadena. I'm ready for change, I'll be upset if he doesn't retire, but if we beat OSU that's 4 RB's in 5 years. That's pretty good.

My family's from Boise and I currently live in Columbus, so I'm loving this scenario and hope you're right. (I enjoy rooting against the home team here, it freaks people out). But if you'll indulge a stupid girl who doesn't really understand sports... why does a Michigan win in particular help BSU?

I'd think otherwise. If Mich wins, they go to the Rose and you have a 10-2 OSU team (granted, with 2 straight losses) that is at least a candidate for one. If OSU wins, there's zero chance the Big Ten gets two teams.

FlyWf 11-12-2007 08:41 PM

Re: *OFFICIAL* Ohio State @ Michigan Thread (11/17/07)

Michigan will almost certainly sneak higher than 16 if they win given that a bunch of the teams in front of them will lose a few more games since the Big Ten ends so early.

[censored] Michigan, by the way.

[/ QUOTE ]

BSU has to finish above a conference champion (among other things) in the BCS rankings in order to get a BCS bowl bid. Michigan isn't very highly ranked in the BCS for obvious reasons, and BSU would have some chance to qualify if Michigan wins. BSU can't move ahead of tOSU. This isn't the only possible way BSU can get in (and it doesn't seem that likely anyway), but it's something.

That said, go Blue.

Good news is Henne should go the whole way (and from what I've heard is more or less fine). I'm sure Hart will play too but I'm more concerned about having Mallett in there or we're going to see a Navarre 2001 Redux. So long as Henne's in, I feel reasonably confident. DeBord does a good job when he needs to call a good game.

If I graduate 1-6 against OSU I'm going to demand a refund.

These stats aren't really indicative of anything meaningful, IMO -- so I submit them only to start an argument. Trolling ftw:

Lloyd Carr is 17-8 against teams ranked in the AP Top 10 in his career. He's 9-1 career at home against Top 10 teams. The one loss at home to a Top 10 team? The 2005 Ohio St game, when OSU (ranked #9) won in the Big House.

I checked with some other people on a message board and only 1 person could beat my current 1-5. It's hard to imagine someone doing that, I think there was a window in the 70's (72-75) where you'd be 0-3-1. Obviously OSU fans have their own private hell in the late 80's and 90's. I miss those days, but I suppose the rivalry needs balance to remain strong.

I thought he was generous not including 1995 or 1996, which are two of the best IMO. There's a highlight reel of Timmy B's runs in 1995; my favorite is when the announcer says they're bringing an extra man into the box so as not to allow "those easy yards anymore", and Timmy promptly makes LB Ryan Miller (from my hometown) miss and busts a huge run.

Yeah we're only 4-6 in the last 10 though, ouch.
